  1. Hi,
First as we learnt sometimes violence is needed to make a change like the several riots all across Northern Ireland destroying hundreds of houses and killing 8 people in 1969. In my opinion, manifesting was a good way to make people hear their story but when the riots became too brutal and started hurting physically others, it should've been stopped.
Second, the Easter Rising made by Irish Republicans in april 1916 didn't kill anyone on the contrary as Bloody Sunday 21st november 1920 which murdered a lot of innocent people.
British soldiers who interrupted a match in order to kill as many Nothern Irish as possible is the proof that abused people always become the abuser afterwards if we dont listen to them.
To conclude, Humans always used violence to fight violence which make sense to me but there should be a limit when its no longer used to be heard and make a progress but to hurt innocent people.

  2. Hello,
First of all violence can be the best way to make changes like in the XX century with the Irishs who tried to get their independence. In fact they revolted against England because of their new laws which discriminated catholics like them, that is why they wanted to found a Republic. So in 1916 Irishs rebelled and there were lot of deaths. However it permitted to the southern part of Ireland to obtain their independence and to found a republic. In that case violence was the solution for the Irishs to be heard and to have their freedom of religion. Nevertheless violence can’t solve everything and sometimes pacifism is required to find solution. Lots of innocents were killed during this conflict. In effect in 1969 riots caused the death of hundreds civils. In january,30th,1972 called « bloody sunday » british army used violence to repress irishs’ revolution and 14 people died and 28 were injured. What I meant is was that sometimes you can get along without sacrificing lives. Peace was signed in 1998 after all these damages. To conclude I think that violence is a good way to be heard but there are many other way to express ourselves.

  3. Hello,
To begin, violence is a way to treat badly people and it’s used to spread a reign of terror. We learnt that since centuries British and Irish are in conflict; they have disagreements about politics or religious cases. Both of them want to rule so it lead the two countries in troubles and they began to use violence. For exemple the Easter rising was a irish rebellion in order to get their freedom and be an independant country. They take advantage when the UK were engaged in the WW1.
Futhermore bristish have used violence when they killed many irish and destroyed houses in severals riots or during the Bloody Sunday. All this violence aims to move on and make an impact. In effect, the southern part get their independance, many treaties were signened like in 1691 by William II/III which granted religious freedom to irish catholics. Or the creation of an agreement to give irish government consultative vote in Nothern Ireland in 1985.
In conclusion, violence can be a good way to be heard, because it allow progress and changes but it not the best way or the only way. Many other ways exist like the hunger stike made by Bobby stands in prison.

  4. Hello,
To answer our problematic we will take the example of violence that took place in the past, in the history of northern Ireland and in a second step we will explain the consequences of this violence and its results.
The exemple studied in class is violence between Irish people who wanted their independence in 1916. The conflict began in 16’s when Henri VIII decided to create his religion, the anglicanism. Then followed for the Catholics of the time a long period of violence, discrimination and persecution. In 1691 a treaty was signed by William II aka king Billy to allow catholics to practice their religion in freedom and peace.
Irish people who were mostly catholics unlike the english who were anglicans, wanted their independence. The leader of the IRA (Irish Republic Army) assassinated 15 British secret agents, to which the British replied on November 21, 1920, by firing with a tank at a crowd attending a Gaelic match at Croke Park. These shots fired into the crowd killed 14 people and injured more than 65. This day has been called the Bloody Sunday.
However, the violence destroyed many lives and separated a lot of people.
Violence doesn’t help to solve problems either, even if we can think of violence as the first way to act. In our case study, it was far from being beneficial.
To conclude, I think violence is not the best way to be heard, it doesn’t bring good things and doesn’t help to solve problems.

  5. In my opinion, violence can be a way to be heard if it’s used in good circumstances. If we take the example of Northern Ireland and England with the conflicts between the Catholics and the Protestants there were a lot of riots that destroyed many homes and houses or during Bloody Sunday in 1920. That sort of violence should be punished. On the other hand, Easter rising was a way for Northern Ireland to defend their freedom and be independent when England was distracted by the first world war. That kind of violence helped the Southern part of Ireland to get their independence, in addition in 1691 there were treaties signed by William II that gave religious freedom to the Irish Catholics.
To conclude, violence isn’t the best way to be heard but it can be a way to make changes, it did many times in history like in Northern Ireland.
