Humanitarian Crisis : Migrants

What do you think of the current situation, and more precisely, of the measures that are taken to deal with it ? What do you think should be done ?

  1. 1 - I am still active on the previous topic, so if you left an answer there, stay tuned! (got it? 'cause, "tune"... "music"... oh, nevermind).
2 - Try to answer to each other, if you just all post the same information, it's pointless.
3 - I already have a substential amount of info, if you want it, just e-mail me.

  2. To begin with, 351 000 migrants came to Europe in 2015 for 220 000 in 2014. The number of migrants has ''exploded'' this year. Many pepolpe died in boats or trucks to join a country where they would be safe. What do I think of the current situation and the measures that are taken to deal with humanitarian crisis ? What should be done ?

Firstly, many measures are taken to help migrants. The first one is to give 2 milliards euros to countries next to Syria because many migrants are from this country. These countries welcome many migrants, it permits helping them with food and hosting. I think this measure is a good one, first because many countries help the migrants, directly or indirectly. But also because the journey is less dangerous when you go next to your country than when you travel on the sea for example.
The second one is the creation of a measure to bring back migrants if their country is safe again. This measure is for five countries. I'm going to put myself in their shoes : these countries are not always and still really safe, I would probably come back to my host country, so this measure is not really useful to deal with the crisis. 39% of the migrants who asked to stay in Europe are expulsed : it's too much.We have to imagine this could happen in France : we would be very happy to know that plenty countries would welcome us, under the circumstances.
And the last one is to close or to watch over the borders in Europe. In my opinion, this measure is the worse one : many countries in Europe have enough money to welcome migrants, like France. Deutschland had welcomed a lot of migrants and it doesn't change so many things, it even permits to this country to have more ''young people'' because the population is ageing. However, every country that has enough money to help migrants should also spend money for homeless people, they need help too.

In a nutshell, I think the measures taken to deal with humanitarian crisis are in general useful to migrants but we can do even better ! In my opinion, France should open the borders and welcome migrants. We have to imagine what they are living to realise how it's important to help them.

  3. To begin with, I would say that I have been impressed and shocked by all the images which were on TV those last weeks, and especially by this little boy lying on the beach, in the water. Migrants used to be far away, far from me, in Calais or elsewhere, but now, they are part of my life, in Italy, in villages nearby, part of the society, an issue no-one can ignore. So, what should be done? Another problem would be to ask what should I do, as a high school student, part of the same community?

I would first say that migrants fly away from war, prejudice, famine or persecutions (religious, moral or physical). When they reach Europe, they believe all their problems are solved but they find hatred, refugee camps, inhuman life conditions in the "Calais jungle" or in other camps.
The problem is that the image they have of Europe is one of wealth and opulence, full employment and freedom. They risk their lives and when they arrive they are not welcomed by the local communities.
Maybe we should first try not to put all the refugees in the same place, all stuck together in the same camp. Governments should try to spread them all over European countries, in different cities and in agricultural regions too. Some villages in the centre of France are dying because the young ones have left, so why not welcome foreign families? Why not help them so they would be grocers, pub owners, doctors, bakers or else... Villages need shops and children to live.

What humanitarian associations do is important but migrant need a job and a working permit more than a bed in a camp. Government should take decisions quickly, and maybe should interfere in the policy of the various countries to stop wars and persecutions... Well, one can dream...

Another issue is what should I do to help? I already give old clothes to associations, canned food or used furniture. I know this is not much but everyone should do a little to help.
As a conclusion, I would say that the USA have been populated and built by various waves of immigration, so why are we so scared, why do we fear so much these migrants?
