Back to Earth

Last Tuesday, Thomas Pesquet came back to earth after being in space for 6 months. He said that getting back to normal life was not that easy. Do you think you would be able to do the same?

  1. Hi,
I think it wouldn’t be easy for all of us since gravity varies a lot from space to earth, so once you go back to earth after a few months spent in space, you can’t walk anymore and have to do a lot of re-education sessions to be able to move again. Plus, it must be hard to return to a normal life after going to space and seeing everyday our earth from so far, actually this has to be the most incredible and special thing that a human being could have ever experiencied. 2. I think that I would not be able to do even a quarter of what he done. Firstly I don't have the physical condition as him (and I don't think a lot of people have). But also the mental strength that you need is insane. In the space you are during such a long time (in that case 6 months) that a new society forms and the come back to normal life sure could be really frustrating as you don't have the same problems in the ISS. Also the routine has to be different and the physical aspect seems difficult to deal with.

  3. Probably not because these people are very qualified in their job and they undergo really hard coaching. Perhaps i’m able but I don’t think so, in the ISS they do things to maintain all engine and i’m very bad to these things.

  4. First of all, when an astronaut returns from space, he must readjust to terrestrial conditions. It means that he has to support his weight which is more important on earth than in space because of the law of attraction. Moreover he saw only 3 or 4 people a day while on earth he will be surrounded by a lot person to take care of him. It's a lot of changes in his body when an astronaut returns from space. So to answer the question I would love to go to space because it is a unique experience that only a few people can have, but honestly, I don't think I would be able to stay 6 months in space without seeing my loved ones. Normal life things like running, swimming, breathing the outside air, having fun with my friends, would miss me. However, I think astronaut is a very impressive job because you devote your whole life to it and for me working to learn more is one of the main goals in life. To conclude I totally admire Thomas Pesquet and the other astronauts and I know that It’s a difficult work you have to train for every day of your life.

  5. I don't think I can do the same thing as Thomas Pesquet because it's a job with a lot of experience, you have to be very strong mentally and physically to stay several months in space, it must be very frustrating to resume normal life after a 6 months in space where there is only gravity and living in a very narrow place and I think it must be very complicated to return to a normal life.

  6. I think honestly, i don't have the capacities of the people who left the earth for space. Indeed we can take for example Thomas Pesquet, before he leaves the earth he had a very hard mental and physical training so i can imagine there is a very little part of people who pass their tests, then for me the most difficult in sapce is the pressure because everything is possible .

  7. I don’t think I will be able to do the same thing as him because I am not qualified and the studies to become an astronaut are so long and difficult. However, it can be an interesting and a fascinating job or experience.

  8. Hello,
Firstly, Thomas Pesquet is an astronaut who had a very hard training to obtain physical condition to be able to go to the space. Then, always stay and live in the risk of an accident occurring, is a very scary thing and I think Thomas Pesquet is very courageous. I’m not sure, I could be so brave! Moreover, it would be difficult for my mental brain to stay a long time far from my family, my friends and my planet! For all these reasons, honestly, I think I wouldn’t be able to do the same.

  9. I don’t think I could do the same because honestly I’m not really courageous, I don’t have the good physical conditions to do it and in my opinion spend 6 months in space is too long. So certainly I couldn’t do the same because it’s too difficult for me.

  11. Hi, I don’t think so, because I understand how is difficult to change something in your life. Everyone has habits and is used to something, for that reason you need some time when you change a country, for example.I changed a country so, I know what i’m talking about. However, there are more differences between space and earth than between a country and an other country, that’s why i can imagine how it was difficult. Polina Semenyuk

  12. Hello, so I don't think I can do half of what he does. Because you have to have mental strength, do a lot of sports, and do space simulator training sessions. In addition, staying so long in space is very hard for me because we are far from our family

  13. Hi,
I feel like it must be really hard to stay so much time in space. Of course, there is physical training that I don't have. I read that Thomas Pesquet had to do hours of sports every day so his bones don't fragilize over time which terrifies me. It must be terrible to feel yourself becoming weaker and weaker even if you keep a really strict training. You also need a lot of motivation. Additionally, it must be hard to have to socialize with people again. Even though he was not alone he probably lost the habit to talk to people. It seems absurd but for example, he is not used to doing his grocery shop anymore, talking to the waitress in a restaurant, or just the usual conversation we have in our daily life that he probably didn't have in a long time.

  14. Honestly, i don’t think i would be able to do the same, because this is a very hard job. Be a astronaut have many drawbacks, for exemple when they return to earth they have to do physical rehabilitaion during several months. When Thomas Pesquet return to earth after 6 months in space he must have be confused to get used to again to his daily life on earth ( talk to people agin, use a car or walk on the ground).

  15. After 200 days on board the International Space Station, Thomas Pesquet returned to Earth during the night from Monday to Tuesday. He landed in the Gulf of Mexico around 4:30 French time.
Do you think you would be able to do the same?
I think it’s really a mission to take seriously to think about it.I would say "yes" to my curiosity and to be able to see beautiful things. But I would say "no", for the risk of leaving my family for six months, without perhaps seeing them again one day.

  16. Hello, first of all, I think that Thomas Pesquet is really very brave. Personally, I would have been much too afraid to do this. I think that being in an unknown place, without anyone to help us if we have a problem, is really scary. On one hand it must be really interesting, and going into space must be impressive, but on the other hand, such a new atmosphere would be too strange for me. Moreover, I understand that returning to normal life must have been complicated. He stayed 6 months, which is huge.

  17. Hello, I don't think I would be able to do what Thomas Pesquet did. I guess it is an amazing experience but I don't have the physical condition because a lot of exercises are necessary to be able to move in space and control your body. I think it's more difficult than we can imagine. In addition, an astronaut needs a very important mental strength because he is far from his family, his friends, his whole life, but also far from his planet. I have always admired astronauts for their courage. Getting back to earth is also very difficult, they need to get used to walking and all the little things we do every day. I think the return of Thomas Pesquet is a good thing for him to rest and find the life that has been waiting for him for 6 months.

  18. I think that I probably couldn't because I like my comfort and my home too much. I wouldn't appreciate to change my habits for so long. I totally understand how hard it can be for Thomas Pesquet to come back to earth.

  19. Hello
I guess that the living conditions in the ISS are extremely different from what they are on earth. Weightlessness means that all action must be adapted. Consequently Eating, drinking, washing.. every simple action has to be done differently.
Moreover the astronauts have to get used to share a tiny space together.
Therefore it is difficult to get back to normal routine on earth after 6 months in space.
In conclusion I don’t think I would be able mentally and physically to pass through the hard training to become an astronaut.

  20. In my opinion, you have to be very strong mentally to leave everything and go to another universe alone, but for (some?) a few days I will have taken up the challenge. I understand that the return to normal life is complicated, he was cut off from everything (and the pandemic too)!

  21. Of course it’s not something easy to come back on earth but during his trip Thomas Pesquet, hé trained for this moments but I think with the same training I’m not able to do what he achieved but it still a dream for me to travel in space

  22. To fly into space is already very difficult, both mentally and physically. But it is even more difficult to adapt to your normal everyday life, after spending half a year in space with no gravitation and no interaction with people. So I don't think that I could be able to withstand such drastic changes in my life.

  24. In my opinion you need to have a lot of training if you want to be an astronaut. Living in space for 6 months is an amazing experience but it would get me homesick if I had to be so far from my family for that long. Besides coming back on earth after 6 months without gravity seems to be really hard on
    the physical state.

  25. In my opinion, it is a huge achievement to live in space for 6 months and I am delighted to know that Thomas Pasquet achieved such a difficult task. I don't think that I'll be able to do the same because living in space requires an extremely strong mental and physical health. Plus, I can't stay away from my loved ones for a long time and I also need to socialise with people regularly. And the way Thomas is feeling right now is completely understandable as it is not easy to come back to normal life after being in space for this long. I just hope the he quickly gets used to the atmosphere in earth as a lot of people would like to meet him to congratulate him.

  26. I think I'm incapable to do what Thomas Pasquet did. First, 6 months in space is very long and having not contact with our family is complicated.
Morover the living condition in space are totally different from our, for exemple to feed or wash.
So I couln't do like him even thought I think the experience must be amazing.

  27. Hi !
I don't think I can do the same thing as Thomas Pasquet . He is physically and mentally trained to live in space. I think it will be hard for me to return to normal life like him because I will be used to seeing the earth from above, eating food from space and especially gravity

  28. Thomas Pesquet was born in Rouen on February 27, 1978 and he is the most famous French astronaut in the world.
In November he returned to Earth after spending 6 months in space. It’s not always easy for him to come back. Indeed, living 6 months in space, all the habits taken on Earth change. Beginning with weightlessness, the body doesn’t support in the same way, in space we « fly » while on earth there is gravity.
Although astronauts practice sports, getting used to Earth’s gravity again is a complicated step. It's possible to see videos where astronauts, just back on Earth, walk badly, cannot stand or drop a glass in the air and are surprised that the glass falls on the ground. Being in space also means not having any real contact with family, friends, etc but only with others astronauts. Returning to Earth allows them to find them. But as in space, they no longer really lived in community, they will have to get used to certain rules and the fact that they will no longer be alone. We mustn’t forget that these trips are dangerous and that there is always a risk of not come back.
When I was younger, my dream was to go into space, so if I have the opportunity to go, I would say yes ! despite the constraints of travel and return. But leaving isn’t easy either (leaving family, friends, habits…)
But this expérience remains incredible and even for the "regulars" of these trips I think each expedition is unique and that each one will remain forever engraved in their memory.
