Far from the Madding Crowd- Thomas Hardy

The valentine card in "Far from the Madding Crowd" a joke or for love,  does valentine really represent romance?

  1. To my mind, Valentine has become a commercial event. Valentine is a huge market, flowershop, restaurants, jewelleries, hotels, gifts shop, it is an important event for these trades to earn a lot of money.
    Although I think that Valentine is a commercial event, I'm not against get some flowers or a dinner in a restaurant on that day. It's also the occasion to give to the other and maybe get back from this person.

  2. To my mind, Valentine represent romance because it's the opportunity of many persons to have fun, go at restaurants with our wife or our huseband and to give us a present (chocolats,jewellerie..) because of that it's also a commercial event because commercants used of that day of love to do promotions or many offers to influence people to buy.

  3. "I am not against getting"/ "going to the restaurant on that special day"
    "to give someone we love something".

    "valentine represents ........ opportunity for many people to... to go to.... with their wives...... husband..... to get gifts....(chocolates, jewellery"..... shopkeepers use that day to make special offers....;

  4. To my mind, i think that originally, Valentine represented romance. Indeed it was the ocasion for a man to offer presents (Flowers, chocholats...) for his wife or his sweatheart, to demonstrate his love. But Nowadays, industry benefits for this success to create business of Love to be economical. so during the Valentine's day, shops offer various promotions in order that people consume more.

  5. To my mind, Valentine is a special day who represent romance because it's the occasion for couple to make a present to him/her. Most often, it's the husband who makes a present to his wife as flower, chocolates, jewellery, invitation to restaurant ...
    But i find that more and more wife makes present to their husband.

    However, i think that company find this excuse to sell their stock and create new business because there isn't any particular occasion towards the month of february.

  6. In my opinion, Valentine's day is a way to prove love that we have towards the person that we love, give him gifts (chocolates, flowers, restaurant, etc...), to please him.

    But however, it is also a way for trade to sell more, make more money.

  7. Nowadays Valentine's day is very commercial , people doet not see love anymore , but just superficial aspect. For exemple if a woman can choose between a beutiful nacklace and a love letter , she would immediatly choose the nacklace , and it's pity ... But for some couple valentine day is a nice occasion to have a romantic moment and to escape the routine.
