Immigration

To what extent can immigrants forget their roots?

  1. It seems hard to think that emmigrants can forget their roots. Maybe the fact that they are well integrated can be one of the reason but however, i think that we always have to remember where we come from. So i would say that if we have a good job and many friends we can creat a new world. Moreover, if immigrants live a better life where they are to where they come from, it's a good way to forget the roots.

  2. Immigrants can not forget their roots. It can mean that they reject what they are and who they are. Like trees you can not live without roots. However a better economic and social situation than before can help to forget their roots.

  3. Forget our roots it's like forget our history and forget a part of ourselves.Tasyana,I think that we mustn't consfuse "integrate ouselves" and "deny our origines".We can be well integrated in a country where we have emigrated and preserved our roots which are a double trump for our own culture. Even if, some want to forget or hide their roots, others take care of remind them : consonance of the name, color of the skin, the religion....
The roots build our phisical and mental attitude.

  4. Immigrants can not forget their roots. When they decided to leave their own country they have already live in this country so even if they hate it, it is a part of their own life.If we take the example of New York, people have immigrated but they created community area as chinatown with asian or New Jersey with an italian community.I think integration doesn't mean forget their roots.

  5. "one of the reasons...however, ...create.... they will eventually forget their roots."
"It would mean that they have rejected who and what they are.... can help you"
"Forgetting our roots is like forgetting our past and a part of ourselves...... "integration and denial". We can be well-integrated in the country where we live and be faithful to our roots, which would be a very good asset. Even if some people want.....others make it their duty to remind them... the sound/pronunciation of the same.... skin-color, religion.....Our roots build our physical...."
"When they decide to leave their own countries they know what they will be leaving behind, for they have already lived there so even if they hate it.....If we take New York for example...... emigrants who left their countries to live there have created.....Asian...Italian..... doesn't mean forgetting...."

  6. There are several reasons which encourage someone to leave his country. It can be for politic reasons (people who disagree with his country's politic ideas is often obliged to quit his city), for economic ones (a person can decide to go to another country to find a new job or best living conditions) or for natural disasters (hurricane, floods and tornado, for example, cause lots of damages). It may be a choice or not.
However, whatever reasons or whatever it's a choice or not, it seems absurd and freaky that immigrants will be able to forget their roots. That's what makes our personality, our character. Moreover, roots can be an asset, a quality and a help to integrate into a new society. New York is a good example. We can see different neighbors. All are from different origins with their culture, their cooking and their architecture. Every immigrant who arrived, who sailed to New York brought something from his country with him.
In my mind, except in exceptional circumstances, an immigrant can't forget his roots for it's an important part of what he is.
