Internet and Human Hive-Mind

Inspired by this. You realy don't need to see it, but it may help you understand.

Tough quesion today as we will try to know if Internet is giving humanity a hive mind, and if you would consider this to be a good thing.
(Of course, this will be something interesting to remember when working on Ideas of progress...).

  1. A hive mind is a collective mind, a shared brain really but devided over every creature that composes it. This allows to coordinate all the creatures and they can create things that an individual can not, they are efficient but if they are seperated from the hive mind the creature will die as they need the hive mind to survive. A good example of this are ants or termites.
Now I think that Internet gives us the collective knoweldge of a hive mind while letting us keep our individuality. This means we get a huge advantage but remaining seperate beings. That last fact makes it impossible for internet to be a hive mind to humans as it does not decide for us.

    1. Hey, thanks for the reply !
I might however disagree a bit with what you say : don't you think Internet somehow influences our behaviours like a hive-mind ?
What I mean is that when you do a google search, the results that will show up are the ones most consulted by people, the ones that a mindless algorithm determines as "most beneficial for the society" based on what the society asks, and these are the results that you will propably take into account. Of course you *could* go to the 10th page of results, but I don't think many people do.
      What do you think ?
