China and the United States signed the COP21 agreement

During the COP21, an agreement has been written to limit to 2°C the global warming until 2100 instead of 4-6°C for the worst-case scenario.
China and the United States have recently ratified the agreement.
Barack Obama said:"Just as I believe the Paris agreement will ultimatly prove to be a turning point for our planet, I believe that history will judge today's effort as pivotal."
Do you agree? Do you think that it is an important moment in history?

Here are some links for you to make your own idea:

Please always justify your position.

  1. I see eye to eye with Barack Obama because as far as I am concerned , the global warming worries me . That's why the world has to do something in order to protect the environment. Every country should makes laws now because if they don't, the consequences would be horrible . China and the United States didn't want to sign the Cop21 agreement because they couldn't develop as much as before . Finally , both signed whereas I thought that they wouldn't , so it's a great thing . " It will be a turning point for our planet " said Obama and he's perfectly right if this agreement is respected all over the world. In case this agreement doesn't work , the planet couldn't be saved and the global warming would never stop . Eventually , all the inhabitants of Earth should protect their planet instead of destroying it .

  2. To my mind , this agreement announced is a good step for decrease the global warming but I don't really agree with Barack Obama when he said that it will be a turning point of our planet ...
First , even if the Us and China are central to limit 2° the global warming, they represent only 38% of total greenhouse gasses whereas the other (poor)countries not taken into consideration by the Paris agreement.
Then , We can't be sure that everyone in this planet will contibute to this agreement .
The last but not least , with all the conflicts between several countries at this time , we also can't be certain that our efforts to change a little bit our world will be realized.
So I don't think that the agreement is an important moment in history !

  3. Nowadays, solving environemental problems is crucial to our future. The Cop21 that took place in Paris gathered conntributors from the entire world, trying to give a common answer. Eventually, an agreement was written and ratified by almost 200 countries, recently accepted by China the USA.

On the one hand, the limits fixed by the Paris climate change Agreement might make a huge difference on the long term. The former "worst case sceario"'s tempetures were definitly too high, and countries would not have had to make efforts not to break it. Furthermore, a 2°C raise in 2100 would with no doubt quite disastrous so a 2 or 3 times higher raise...
But on the other hand, since signing this paper was easy and globaly well considered, we could justifly fear that some members only agreed on the moment, without planning change for the future. Indeed, such long terms objectives are hard to pursue due to the regular gouvernment changes. We could for instance worry about the USA: Despite Obama's ecological déclarations, many politician still consider climate change as an hoax. The prospect of one of them elected for President already endangers the COP21 décisions...

To put it all in a nutshell, this agreement might make a great difference if every country actually make efforts to respect it. 100 of years in the future, people might as well think of the COP 21 as a great event or as one more useless political gathering. The Future shall tell us, and for our own sake it is ought to be a positve outcome...

  4. Hello,

This is a good idea to talk about that because of the importance of the subejct.

Some people tells that they don't care, the global warming is not their fault and governements have to change their way of polluting instead of them.
US and China did so, this is a good fact, especially because they are the countries which have the biggest foot print carbon.
But, everybody should do something to help the agreement of the COP21.

About Obama and what he told, I agree with him. This is a fact that Paris was a turning point for the planet, because we didn't care about global warming for years and now we must pay with the 2°C of global warming. But we need to do as best as we can to limit it.

This is the last chance fot change !

  5. Hello !

    - First of all, the global warming is today a real scourge for the planet and fortunately some conferences like the Cop 21 can change some things for our future.

    - To begin with, I strongly agree with Barack Obama when he saids that to limit 2°c instead of 4/6°c is better and can ultimately changes the world because little by little if people recycle or use a bike instead of a car it can be very beneficial.
And secondly, yes, I think that it is an important moment in history because this kind of decisions can changes our life and our children's life and it can help to preserve our planet.

    - To sum up, I hope that this decision will be respected by everybody to continue to live in good condition.

  6. Hi everyone !
I personnally agree with Barack Obama because I think that global warming is a very serious problem, the polar ice cap is melting, so polar don't have anywhere left to live and are obligated to hunt on earth whereas they used to hunt in the water. Last year I studied a poster published by the finnish branch of WWf aiming to inform peope about global warming, it represented a shabby polar bear in a dark and dirty street. We were able to compare the bear to a tramp seeing how in dice straight it was.
As a conclusion I think that it is a great thing that nowadays countries are teaming up to stop (or at least try to reduce) global warming since it a problem for the entire ecosystem .

  7. Hello everybody,

As far as I am concerned, I do totally agree with Barack Obama because our planet is in deep danger and all the countries must lower their carbon emission urgently.
As a matter of fact, I believe we have to protect our planet for future generations and it has to be a combined fight : no country, no matter how powerful it is, can work on his own. This is the reason why the Paris agreement is crucial : about 55 nations came to ratify it.
Though, as for me, this agreement alone won't solve the climat crisis , but it is a starting point and it will favour countries to set more ambitious targets.

  8. Hello !
First of all, China and United States are the biggest emmitters of greenhouse gases. So, to my mind, it is necessary for China and USA to ratify the agreement. Then, I totally agree with Barack Obama when he said : "I believe that history will judge today's effort as pivotal" because all we do have consequences, so it is crucial to limit to 2 degrees the global warming until 2100.
Last but not least, I hope this agreement will be an example for other countries to fight together, like Obama said in his speech : "Despite our differences on other issues we hope that our willingness to work together on this issue will inspire greater ambition and greater action around the world."

  10. Hi everyone,

To begin with this subject, I would like to say that it is a precious and crucial stake nowadays.

We all perfectly know that our world is in danger and if we don't change our way of life, it's going to be worst little by little.
We have reached the highest point of global warming (at least I hope so) but environmental problems subsist since a long time already.
We actually didn't really worry about it until we realized that our planet is genuinely threatened.
As the quote says : "Better late than never"
Consequently, it's time to set up real ecological measures in order to save our planet.
To my mind, long speeches never come to a successful conclusion but I wish I am wrong.

To sum up, I don't fully believe in those beautiful words for a better world and I share Emilie's point of view regarding the usefulness of this agreement.

  11. Hello everybody !!!

To begin with, the Cop 21 is an international meeting of 196 States that had taken place lest year in Paris. During those days an agreement was created to limit to 2°C the global warming until 2100. However, some countries only signed it whereas others ratified it.
So far, China and the United States had just signed it but recently ratified it.
Indeed, it was very important for the world that they accept this agreement because they are the two biggest emitters of greenhouse gas. The United States represents more than 18% of the greehouse gas in all the world and China, about 20%. So, I strongly agree with Barack Obama when he said, during his speech, that it is going to be « a turning point for our planet ». As for me, I found it necessary that both signed the agreement. Besides, to the best my knowledge, the Americans are trying to search for more solutions to solve this environmental problem. Indeed, they want to develop renewable energies by adding wind turbines in the states. China also had this idea and 20% of their energy will be renewable by 2030.
All things considered, as I see it, this act will be important for the world’s history and, as greenhouse effects are nowadays a major stake, it is important for the biggest polluters to make efforts and to help the planet.

  12. Hello everybody !

I totally agree with the declaration of the head of state of the USA and with the majority of you. The agreement which was taken into account, on December 12th, 2015 in Paris by both superpowers, but also both countries which pollute most the planet, is in fact a very important moment in our history.
It is very important for us because we are directly concerned and the pollution worries many of us.
Henceforth, the real issue rest in my opinion its implementation. Because we know that big pollutants do not still meet their commitments.
Together, we have to protect the planet and not damage this one.

  14. Hi everyone,

To start with, this is a crucial subject to talk about as is concernes everyone. However, I think global warming doesn't worry enough people around the world since it's not a danger that has a direct impact on us quite yet. Consequently, the Earth's temperature has been increasing severly over the last few years.

First of all, In my opinion we should of started dealing with this problem a long time ago but better start solving it now than never ! That is why, an agreement has been written to limit to 2°C the global warming instead of 4-6°C. This agreement has been signed and ratified by numereus countries including the United States of America and China who are « the world's two largest economies and two largest emitters ». By doing so, I think other countries will follow in the same steps and be encouraged to join themselves the agreement, making it possible to reach the goal of saving our planet.

Secondly, I totally agree with barack Obama when he says « Just as I believe the Paris agreement will ultimatly prove to be a turning point for our planet, I believe that history will judge today's effort as pivotal » because if this agreement is followed properly we should or at least the next generations should be able to see a difference in global warming as it's not a change that can be done immediatly.

Finally, it is true to say that this is an important moment in history since it unites the world in a way that hasn't been done before. Indeed, it is by uniting different countries that we will be able to see a change in global warming. As can be seen during Barack Obama's speech when he says « this is not a fight that any one country, no matter how powerful, can take alone. ».

Last but not least, everyone « should do its part to protect this planet for future generations ».

  15. Hello everybody,

I have an uptade about the agreement of COP21. India ratified the agreement today.
But that's not the case of the European Union who are supposed to ratify it at the end of the month!

  16. Hello everyone !
First of all, I would like to say that, at first, this subject didn't inspired me at all but now that I've learnt a bit about it, I think I have things to say.
In 2016, one of the biggest issue in our society is pollution and global warming. Our planet is sick ! The USA and China are two hudge potencies, they have the two biggest GDP (gross domestic product) of the world !

I think those two powerfull countries who ratfied this agreement is a very good thing, and a great example to give to other countries.
Now to go back on Mr OBAMA's words; I think he is totally right and it will "ultimatly prove to be turning point for our planet".
I guess it is an important moment in history, first because it means that ecologic issues have a bigger place in our worries right now, and secondly because thanks too the united states and China , many countries are going to get along with this project and could be a way to unify the world.

  17. hello everybody,

first of all, I think this is an important subject because we are all concerned.
The global warming is a big problem which worries me a lot but I think it doesn't worry enough people. Our planet is in danger, and we have to find a real solution.

China and the united states are the two biggest emitters of greenhouse gas so I think it is a good thing that they ratified the agreement. Morever, it gives a good example to the other countries.
I totally agree with Barack Obama when he said that it's going to be "a turning point for our planet". In my opinion it is also an important moment in history.

To conclude, I hope that the COP21 is the good solution to reduce the global warming and I'm glad to see that a lot of countries are united to resolve this big problem.

  18. Hello everybody.
To begin with, I think global warming is a topic often overlooked because the media don't talk very often about this and unfortunately news are marked by other events that we may seem more dramatic.
But unfortunately the climate warming affects us; the polution such is the result, because carbon monoxide and ozone, of headache, nausea, respiratory problems and tiredness of humans!
I hope that China and the US will respect their agreement at best because they are two influential countries, and big polluters!
It is too early to say that the cop 21 is a change for our plane, because for me it is not enough to make beautiful promises or sign a paper in front of cameras...

we will see in the future the actions of these two powerful countries!
