Do you like poetry ? If yes, do you read some on regular basis ?

  1. Hello everyone,

First of all, poetry is literary work in which the expression of feelings and ideas is given intensity by the use of distinctive styles and rhythms.

I really like reading and writing in general but writing and reading poems was something that I particularly enjoyed doing when I was younger. I remember writing short poems about anything that crossed my mind on my computer or in my notebook. To me, poetry is a great way to express ideas and feelings by writing them down.
In French class we are now studying poetry and I really like it. We are reading many poems from Apollinaire in his collection entitled “Alcools” that we then analyze and study in depth to understand the context and the implicit ideas behind them. One of my favorite French poets is Charles Baudelaire. Two or three years ago I read his very famous collection called “Les Fleurs du Mal” which I absolutely loved. On the one hand, I’m a bit disappointed that we don’t get to read any of his work this year but on the other hand, I get to discover new poets and therefore new poems.

I don’t read poems on a regular basis but I do like to sit down sometimes and read famous poems from poets like Baudelaire, Apollinaire, Hugo, Eluard and Rimbaud.

  2. Hello everybody,
I really like poetry! It’s something I like to hear, read… I like it very much because they are all different. And so it may be suitable for the whole world. Each person can have a “crush” for a poetry, and the poet can give us a sense of who he or she is as a person.
But poetry is above all something to create to remind us of someone/a memory/the best moment of our life/family etc... A person/place that has left a trace inside us.
Poetry makes it possible to find something in us.

  3. First of all, when I was younger, I loved writing and reading poems. This is still the case even if I don't have much time to write about it anymore.
I love poetry because it is succinct. I love how a complicated topic is dealt with in so few words or lines, but that there are infinite ways to look at and interpret those lines and words. I truly have to concentrate on every word and detect the meaning (because most words have mulitiple meanings) that the author intended. It's like a puzzle!
Finally, I can say that poetry is a bit of a family affair, because my grandfather and my grandmother used to have competitions. Besides, I think they won some awards.

  4. Hi everyone,
I really like poetry and I think it is something really beautiful.

In my opinion, poetry is a way for people to say something about what they hold dear to them, I mean when you can't say what is in your heart by talking, you can always use poetry or songs to explain what you are feeling.
Also, I read a lot of poems and like quite a lot a few of them.
Futhermore, I enjoy write poems, but I admit that my poems writing was on a more regular basis last year, and I miss writing them now, truly.
However, Poetry is beautiful in all its ways, but in order to keep its beauty we have to truly watch what our words really mean or else their poetic meaning will be destroyed, shattered.
I reckon that poetry had different meanings and our feelings make them look different depending on we perceive in poems. It is a truly interesting subject that always have interested me.

    Thank you for reading me,

  6. Hello everyone,

Poetry is the art of evoking and suggesting sensations, impressions, the most vivid emotions through the intense union of sounds, rhythms, harmonies, especially by verses.

I really appreciate reading poetry. In fact, to my mind, in poetry one can recognize oneself in the sentiments evoked by the poet. Poetry can also use representations, allegories to describe the world around us, it can also express the opinion of some involved poets. My favorite poet is Victor Hugo, since his poems are written in a language that is not too formal, and when you read his poems you feel a great emotion because Victor Hugo denounces, for example, the misery of children, slavery and fight against women’s rights. However poetry can sometimes be misunderstood as it is a rather complex literary genre in its writing with often the use of formal language that can trouble the reader.

  7. I personally read poetry with a lot of passion because I only read poems that transfer strong emotions to me. I don’t often read poetry but when I do, I can stay a lot of time reading and enjoying every verse. My vision is that poetry is only “good” when you are able to relate to it. For instance, if the theme of the poem is killing people, you will not relate to it while you could still find it beautifully written. That’s why it is only a question of sensitivity, everyone will not respond in the same way to the same poem…

My favourite poet is Arthur Rimbaud, he died very young and wrote some fabulous poems at only 15 years old like for example “Le Dormeur du Val”/”Sensation” …

  8. Hi !
For my part, I remember that even when I was not able to understand, I really liked poetry. Now that I’m older, I enjoy even more poetry, especially lyrical poems, and poetry about love, or very sad poems. Poems about the beauty of nature are very special too, and I especially like poems with metaphors, touching sentences. Moreover, even if you don’t understand each verses, I think it’s not very important, you just have to appreciate the sound and the sentences. In French class, we study « Alcools », by Apollinaire, and there are very beautiful, interesting poems. I love the poem « Nous dormirons ensemble » by Louis Aragon, and of course « Le dormeur du val » by Rimbaud. For me, poetry is one of the most elaborate, intense, romantic and complex type of art. I understand that some people can not enjoy poetry, because sometimes it’s difficult without real sense.

  9. Poetry is for me one of the most effective means of expression. Indeed, this art allows messages to be shared with the reader using different writing processes and registers that can reinforce the emotions or points of view that the poet wants to convey to the reader. All this while being able to choose the rhythm of the text that can be created by the rhymes or the different verses.
I never read poetry but I plan to do it for my French exams.

  10. Hello,
First of all, poetry is for me a way to express our own feelings. It can be a need for some people (me, for example); I mean, writing some verses can be the solution to face our problems, or maybe just tell a story.
Therefore, I don't really like reading in general, and it is hard for me to be steeped in the story. I can't feel emotions through a text that is not mine, I guess.
Furthermore, poems are in general shorts, so I think it can be easier to read.
But poetry is still a beautiful art, and I am glad it exists!

  11. Hello!

To begin with, thank you for this subject, indeed, I'm going to answer quickly, I'm found of poetry! Besides, I'm in "Littéraire", consequently, I have the opportunity to study deeply poets and poetry. For instance, we learnt about Charles Baudelaire, who is really an artist that I appreciate. Regarding the themes noticed in "Les Fleurs du mal" I definetely think that he was a visionary and that's why a lot of poets and lectors really admire and worship him.
However, I love other poets as well. I have always been interested in Apollinaire's poetry and his calligrams for example, moreover, he was quite young for a poet and yet really talented.
To finish with, I still like to read again some of these artists' poems, but also every kind of poetry, because each poem can be understood diferently by everyone, as it is another language, everybody gets what they want.

Thanks for reading, Noa Momet Tiberio 1L.

  12. Hello everyone,

At the moment in my french class we are studying poetry, I find poetry very interesting because there are often hidden ideas behind each sentence, which means that people can understand the sentence in different ways. I must confess that I don't find poetry extremely interesting when we study it in class, nonetheless I used to love reading poetry a few years ago and even wrote a couple of poems when I was about 14 years old. But I doubt that they would be any good if I were to read them again today.

    Thank you for reading,

  13. Hello everybody,
I love poetry because this year we work on poetry in French class like Apollinaire with « alcool ». It’s very interesting to learn about it for the French exam at the end of the year of school. I hope I will have a good mark.

  14. Hello,
Well to be honest, poetry has never been my cup of tea. I studied it at school this year but I wasn't really understanding it. Although it was not my favorite kind of literature, I actually started to appreciate it. I think that if you want to understand the author, you need to be very curious because they don't express their emotions directly. So that is what I did and I finally like this artistic way of writing.

  15. Poetry and prose are alike in that they are both forms of written communication between writer and reader; both are intended to accomplish a writer's purpose. Writers of prose express themselves in sentences, whereas poets write in lines of poetry. Poetry employs rhythm to a greater extent than prose, and rhythm in a particular poem may or may not fall into regular patterns.

I personally read poetry and I enjoy these literary forms for somewhat different reasons, but both forms are enjoyed for the effective use of language. A particular poem might be appreciated for the emotion it evokes in the reader. A poem may also offer very vivid imagery within only a few lines creating a strong impact upon the reader.

People who love poetry may favor certain kinds of poems. Some poems tell a story, while others, like those of the imagists, simply paint a picture. The one common factor in the enjoyment of poetry seems to be this. Those who love poetry love language and what can be achieved with carefully selected words arranged artfully in lines.

  16. Poetry is for me one of the only ways to express myself. Even if there are so many arts to develop imagination and creativity, this one is very precious to write down emotions or what goes in our mind. I started writing poems maybe three years ago and I took example from different authors such as Shakespeare, Victor Hugo and Baudelaire. There are also essays from unknown person on Internet that inspire me because they are quite interesting. Guillaume Apollinaire is my best author indeed he find a way to express things and to tell a story which makes you dreaming. His writing is wonderful. Moreover, poems can give a message, express emotions such as sadness, fear, happiness, and they can be a way to reveal a secret, for example, about love or friendship. To my opinion, poetry is more than only writing, it is a confident from the artist, and it comes from heart.

  17. Hello, I have always loved poetry, it is an easy and beautiful way to express our feelings or emotions through art. Personally I often write poems when I don't know how to talk about something to people. So it is a sort of escape for me. Most of the time I write poems in English, because I findnd it sounds well, almost like a song, it also makes me learn new words.
Otherwise, I loved learning poems at school when I was a child, from Victor Hugo, Arthur Rimbaud and Jacques Prévert.

    Thank you for reading.

  18. Hello,
personally I love poetry, and even more when it's in a song. I think it makes it more fascinating to add vocals to the lyrics. I also like the fact that in a song you don't understand everything at first, you have to listen to it many times to understand the whole meaning of it and get all the chords and everything. However I'm not really into poems because I don't like reading, to me it is a lot boring, I don't blame people who like It, in fact I admire that but I don't think I am patient enough to read books so I prefer poetry in a song especially when the song tells a story which is really interesting.
