In my opinion, the most important thing in a song is the lyrics. First of all, writing a song is getting a message across. You have to have inspiration, ideas to develop the text. Indeed, I find that in the lyrics of a song we can recognize ourselves more than in the rhythm. I think that when writing music you first think of the lyrics and then the melody that comes to adapt to the text. However, it’s true that a good song rhythm makes it possible to dance, have fun, laugh with friends without necessarily having nice lyrics. DUCROQUET Margaux TS4
Hello, A song can't really be a song without the music. Lyrics are an optional part of a song. Songs are often built around the lyrics, so we could consider them a vital part of the whole. But what about someone who hears the song but doesn’t speak that language? The words alone wouldn’t mean much to anyone who doesn’t speak that language. When you listen to the song for the first time, your brain immediately realizes whether this song is good for you or not. You don't focus on the lyrics, you focus on the melody, rhythm and instruments. For me it’s very rare that the lyrics are more important than the music. Juliette Brinon TS2
Hello everyone, I believe that both rhythm and lyrics are equally important in a song. If you are trying to compose a catchy song that you want people to dance to, then you put more effort in the rhythm than in the lyrics. For example, last summer we were all dancing to "Closer" by the Chainsmokers even though the lyrics don't make much sense. However if you are trying to write a meaningful song, it's the lyrics that are more important. In this case you want the person listening to the song to feel every emotion you are trying to convey, you want them to connect with what you are saying. Moreover, it often depends on the person listening to the song. For example, when i feel sad or lonely I listen to songs with meaningful lyrics that make me feel less alone, however if I am happy and exited, I'll listen to music that makes me dance and jump up and down without paying attention to the lyrics. Hello everybody ! First of all, when we hear a music for the first time, we don’t usually remember the lyrics. We remember the rhythm. The rhythm (or the music) is the essential part in a song, because a song with a great music and bad lyrics will be sing much more than a song with great lyrics and bad rythm. Moreover I think a music can make you feel emotions that words will nerver do. When you listen to a song, the music can also make you « travel », you are not in the street or in your room anymore. Besides one of my favourite music is without lyrics, it’s the « Arrival of the birds ». I first heard it in a movie and I started to cry, therefore in my opinion the rythm is the most important part in a song. To conclude I would like to add that even if the rhythm is more important than the lyrics, the lyrics are still important in a song. Goodbye!
Hello, Speaking for myself, the answer to this question depend on the mood. For instance when I juste want to dance or be distracted by the music, the rhythm is more important and I do not care about the lyrics. But otherwise,I believe that the lyrics are really important. They can change the way you perceive a song and the writer/singer can pass many messages through it.
I think, a song must have a good rhythm with nice lyrics. Indeed, if we want to listen again a song, we must like what we hear : its rhythm. So, the latter is very important to make you want to be listened another time the song. Once the rhythm is appreciated, the lyrics have to make sense. They have to tell a story and they have to be harmonious with the melody. For a musician, the most important it’s the rhythm but, on the contrary, for the poet, the most important is the lyrics. In my opinion, the most important is the rhythm because if you don’t like it, you don’t like the song in its integrality. Séléna RUAULT-TS4
To respond to your question, I’ll simply modify a bit by replacing “rhythm” in the musical aspects of a song. In my opinion, a good song is a song which blends perfectly good lyrics with some interesting and researched accompaniments. However, there are loads of songs that have deep lyrics with a very basic rhythm and instrumentation that I constantly listen to. This means that a perfect song has to have at least one of the two aspects; the importance of each really depends on the style of music the artist wants to have.
For me, in a song the most important are the lyrics. Often, when a singer writes a song it is to convey a message , so it is thanks to the lyrics that we can deliver a message. Usually he first write the message and then create an adapting rhythm. So it’s thanks to the lyrics that we can appropriate and like the song. However, the rhythm makes it possible to mark the mind. Indeed, we first hear the rhythm and remember it. So it is thanks to it that we can be able to retain the message.
Personally, I think that lyrics are the most important thing in a song, because, a song, to be a good one, has to have good lyrics, and send a message. I think that the melody is really important too, because even if we don't remember the lyrics, we can still remember the melody, as it's usually the first thing that we learn by listening to a song. Moreover, a song can't be a good one for me if there are good lyrics and not a good rythm/melody, and vice-versa. However, nowadays we can find many songs with bad lyrics, without messages to convey, but a really good rythm, which catches people's eye, and thanks to that, they will always sing or like it.
I think that lyrics are more important because they transmit a message. They give us emotions, if the words are sad or speak of love we will be sad. They can remind us of a memory, a person, a moment in our life. But I think the rhythm is also important, sad words on a happy rhythm do not match. There is also a lot of music without words which can give emotions, I think in particular of the 5th symphony of Bethoven which for some has a political reasoning because of its aggressiveness and the context of the time, it would be a hymn to freedom, a revolutionary act and others will say that this symphony is part of the romantic. So I think the lyrics and the rhythm have equal values.
Hello, From my point of view, the rhythm of a song is important because it gives certain reactions (desire to dance, to cry ...). But for me the lyrics are more important, because they express a lot of things. The words of music can be an escape to reveal his feelings, his desires, criticize etc ... As we saw in class, for example, the music "I feel like a woman" by Shania Twain expresses a clear and distinct message: feminism and the pride of being a woman. And it is especially through the words of music that we understand the message explicitly, whereas if we try to convey a message through a rhythm of a song it will be more complicated to understand.
Hello, I think in a song what's important depends on the message you want to pass on and the best way according to your qualities and your assets to convey this message. sometimes the rhythm, the beat, the tone, and the instruments are a very important thing if you're better at conveying a message in an implicit way. If you are an international artist and you want people the feel the emotions you felt while writing this song, the rhythm, the beat, the tone, the instruments you use will be extremely important for people that don't speak the same language as you do because they won't be able to understand the lyrics, and they won't know what you're talking about and how you feel about that. Then again obviously the lyrics are also a big part of a song, they define its purpose in a explicit way and they make us understand what the artist went through while writing the song so that we can put ourselves in the artist's shoes for a couple minutes and see what kind of emotion the music is supposed to transmit us. In my opinion I like listening to a song and try to get the message without lyrics and just with the rhythm, it's for me more interesting to see how the artist chose the rhythm and the instruments and how he wants to use it (even if the artist doesn't play any instrument). But for me I think the rhythm and the lyrics are both equally important in song.
