On Thursday 21 January, Yuriy celebrated his 15th birthday on his hospital bed, in an artificial coma. Last Friday, he was violently assaulted by a dozen individuals at the exit of Guillaume-Apollinaire secondary school, where he is a pupil in the 15th arrondissement of Paris.

I hadn't heard of this news before I saw it right here and I made searches to learn more about this story and I was shocked to see what happened. Seeing a such coward assault with dozen individuals on only one teenager already on the ground simply disgusts me. However, despite the unbearable brutality of this assault, we don't know what happened before that, and the reasons behind this action. I heard about an anonymous Twitter account that talks about Yuriy's band beating a teen up, because of his skin color before this. So we will have to wait to see the truth behind all that.

ReplyDeleteYes of course, I've heard of this sad news and you know what? When I read the article about it, I realized how much I am disappointed of our society. Because this child was in front of his school alone and those individuals came and savagely attacked him, but why? This is not fair. How these individuals dare assaulted a boy alone? He does not deserve it at all and today because of their fault, he is in artificial coma. But when those bad guys will realize how much this is a terrible act to do. Moreover, if Yuriy survives, he will keep the fear to being violented again. And it's because of this, that teenagers suffer and are scared about school. Because of those evil young men who thinks that they are superior than the others. They punch and hurt lonely kids, like it happened for Yuriy's incident. I hope the boy will be okay, I really hope so.

Apparently, he was not totally innocent either but that does not mean he deserved it. For me, the violence is never an answer to solve a conflict, I think there is always another way.
I really hope he will recover as soon as possible !

ReplyDeleteI don't have heard this sad news but I think it is terrible. Indeed, this incident shows that we can't feel safe. Some assaults take place in public spaces like the Guillaume-Apollinaire college and are aimed at various persons. Violence has no limits and that is a bit scary.

ReplyDeleteYes I have heard these news. I think it is terrifying and very sad. I saw the footage of those individuals beating him on Twitter and it was extremely violent. I feel really bad for his parents and Yuriy for being in an artificial coma and that he had to go through this. I think it is unbelievable that there are still cases like these till this day. He was just wandering around the school and got beaten. I think that it shows how unsafe we are in our society. Indeed, anyone could just be outside and get beaten that easily. I hope he gets better and recover, and that those individuals will get the prize to pay when the police find them.
Hello, yes I heard about this sad story on the news. I think that young Yuriy has been attacked by racist people. It is just horrible to attack a person because of his skin colour, his origin, his religion,... and what's more, he is a child. The aggressors have no sense of morality and deserve to be imprisoned. In my opinion, in 2021 humans should be able to tolerate each other and not such violence. Mentalities must change to guarantee the safety of all and racist acts must be more severely punished. I hope that Yuriy will recover quickly and can wake up soon.
ReplyDeleteHello, I hadn't heard about this news at all but following your question I went to find out more details. I found articles but also the video of Yuriy's assault (which I didn't watch) where we see the schoolboy being beaten up, while he is on the ground, by a group of young people who end up fleeing, leaving him for dead. I'm not sure why he was attacked by so many individuals, although I have seen the hypothesis of a "gang war". And I find this news totally horrible, in fact, I myself have known people who had been beaten up but not on this scale. The fact that he was put in an artificial coma shows the violence he was confronted with and I hope that his aggressors will be punished even if they are very young.

ReplyDeleteI personally had heard about these news and was shocked when I learnt about it. It was outrageous to see a young man being beaten on the ground by 12 other young men. Their intent was to kill him and, for apparently no reason. This goes to show that violence is still rampant in the streets, and especially among young people. Today's society remains unsafe despite all of the progress we've made and I wish that with this event, the government will strive to reinforce their security on a higher scale. What has been done was unbearable, as well as unbelievable and should never be repeated ever again. I hope that the young teenager wakes up from his coma and that he recovers, even though he will remember this incident for the rest of his life.

ReplyDeleteI obviously heard about this and it’s awful. It’s not even fair: he was alone and defenseless. The teenagers who assaulted him are literally cowards. This violence can be happening anywhere right now as you’re reading this, but the news won’t talk about it because they choose their topical subject. But anyway this is frightening and the fact that the attackers are around my age shows that any generation can be made up of bad people. I really hope that Yuriy is getting better and better everyday and that he will be able to pacify the traumatic memories.

We are supposed to be humans : the human is characterised by his language, which allows him to exchange with others. We can express ourselves, we can confront each other with words, but not with violence.
The example of Yuriy is horrible, but it is only one of many others, (...all the more so since there has been a complementary attack to this one, one week earlier).
These acts reduces the human species to brutality. For, me it isn't only humiliating for people who do that : it's humiliating for their relatives, the city where they live, our society, our country and finally for the human species, which is dominated by violence.

Fortunately, as I write, Yuri is out of the hospital and doing well for the moment trying to live with this traumatic event. This kind of thing happens every day, more and more these days I feel, and it goes way beyond a beating in many cases. I can't imagine the pain it is for the victim's family and loved ones and I hope I never have to actually imagine it. It's crazy to have to be afraid like that, even when you're young, when you're a woman, when you're not heterosexual, when you belong to a religion. For anything and everything in fact. It's just disgusting to do that to a 15 year old child, especially when you read in the new that there was apparently no reason behind it. I just lose faith in humanity.

Hello, yes I have heard this sad news but I have not heard how this pupil is doing now. I don't think there is much to share here except the fact that I am disgusted and sorry for this kid. Nothing should ever be resolved by violence. No matter how right or how wrong the person can be, the best way to end the discussion is by either walking away or having a constructive argument. Words are sharper than knives and only stupid people resolve things with violence.
