Comment on this proverb from Moorish origin.

He who does not travel, does not know the value of men.

  1. Hello,
I like this proverb very much. Indeed, I think that if you don't travel and stay in your "bubble of comfort", with people who share the same point of view, the same habits, etc... you can miss out on certain experiences, certain encounters that can change your life. So, I think that when we travel, especially in contact with the residents, we can have a new vision of life, with new values and principles.

  2. For me, this proverb makes me understand that when you travel, you discover new countries and gain a lot of experience. During the trip you can meet for example poor people, people with complicated and sometimes unfair stories and you can learn a lot from many people and situations. This kind of thing disrupts our routine and our way of thinking, making us think about the value of men. If we don't go out to discover the world, we end up closing ourselves in on our own person, without taking the time to go out to meet the beauties of this world.

  3. Hello,
When you don't expose yourself to the rest of the world by visiting different parts of the world, you become limited-minded and think of people as one mold.
You haven't met every kind of person.
You don't know what people are capable of.
You're not aware of other people's cultures and beliefs if you don't expose yourself to another way of life.

  4. Hello,
this proverb means that for know the value of men we have to learn from men in the whole world. In our planet there are a lot of different ways of life and we can't take just one as the only way of life in earth.

  5. This proverb highlight that the value of man cannot be reduced to one civilization or one culture. We have to travel to discover new way of life, new culture while meeting some people.

  6. Hello,
First of all, I think that travel improves our way of thinking and, moreover, it undoubtedly improves our knowledge of the world and the people who live in it. So someone who doesn't travel so much, who doesn't know how other people live, think or even act, as a human being is not so much enriched. A man discovers the world through humans. If you discover more and more countries with different languages, cultures, ways of life, origins and individuals, you will understand societies faster. Travelling creates the knowledge of one man about all the others. To conclude, a person who never travels, does not even know what is going on around him. Of course, he can imagine, but he cannot look at reality. The values of men are built up through the travels of men all over the world.
    Thank you always!

  7. I think I quite disagree with that proverb (at least if I understood it right), because travelling will introduce us to different values from different origins, yet it is not essential to know the value of men. I think you can make your own opinion on this even though you stay in your country. I know it's a bit exaggerated but nowadays thanks to technology we can be aware of what's happening at the other end of the world. Of course it has nothing to do with being there yourself, but you can learn a lot in it. However, we can suppose that by the time this proverb was born, the internet was not as developed, if it existed, and that's why it could have been invented.

  8. Hello,
Speaking for myself, this proverb is true. Indeed, he who does not travel, does not meet a lot of people. But each individual has his own identity. Thus, he does not deal with human diversity and cannot recognise man's true value.

  9. By travelling, you become more exposed to the different facets of men. Be it through the discovery of different cultures, civilizations, races and so on. Men are, wherever you go, always somewhat different from what you generally think men are as a whole. It is hard to imagine all the kinds of different men that exists if you do not see them for what they are, with your own eyes. Therefore, rejecting the idea to travel amounts to rejecting all the other types of men that exist, that aren't the ones near you and leaves you in ignorance. You're essentially ignoring a huge part of what makes humanity what it is, and what makes it so diverse.

  10. Firstly, when I read this proverb I loved it because to my opinion it's so true and meaningful . To my mind this proverb highlights the importance of travelling and the importance of meeting , talking , exchanging with every kind of people. When you don't expose yourself to the rest of the world by visiting different parts of it, you become narrow-minded . You haven't met every kind of person , you don't know what people are capable of and you're not aware of other people's cultures and beliefs if you don't expose yourself to another way of life. Therefore, he who does not travel has not seen the different ways people interact with one another and has a limited view of the world and people in general.Furthermore when you travel you realize the value of man in terms of all that he has been able to achieve, the constructions that he has built ... On the other side, I also think that this proverb can be applied in the case of a person that we know .For instance , you have a friend that you know really good but in reality it's when you travel with this person that you know his/her true value .

  11. I appreciate this proverb, it says that it is when we travel that we know the true value of men, in fact it is when we travel that we discover new things, that we have fun, so we feel more alive than usual and this brings us more knowledge about the value of men.

  12. I love this quote because it is so true!
Today, we can learn the geolocation of all countries, and discover their specialities, landscapes, etc., thanks to the internet, books, and TV documentaries. Since the democratization of aeroplanes, travelling has become easier.
Indeed, during a road trip, if we are open-minded, we cross the road of many people. Thus, we can make wonderful encounters and recognize the true value of people.
It is through travelling that we can learn tolerance, wisdom, and discover new cultures.

  14. According to me, I don't think that the one who doesn't travel, doesn't know the value of the man. Because, every man has his own values. Thus, to travel one is not obliged to go to the destination. But, we can travel through other ways such as books or movies that allows us to discover the culture of the country.

  15. I agree with this proverb. I believe It is impossible to determine the value of something over a small sample. To understand mankind we must look at its history, its culture all over the world. How can we base our opinion of something so wide on a country or a town you were raised in. Would you say all of mankind is horrible because you’ve studied the holocaust? Or would you say all of mankind is beautiful because of Buddha’s values?
Traveling allows us to exchange our beliefs and our essence and it is only by doing so that we can realise how wonderful Mankind is, as well as how awful.
I think this diversity is what makes us one of a kind and we can only understand this by traveling.

  16. Hello,
To my mind, this proverb isn't totally true. Even if we can learn a lot of things about man by travel, his value can't only be understood by travel. Travel isn't the only way to become aware of characters that made a faithful representation of human.
We can all improve from day to day our vision of humanity and our individuality as human. For instance, reading is precious to us to develop our knowledge about the foundations of human societies (especially throught philosophical, literary and historiographical works) but also to develop oneself : reading can represent a hobby but also a work that makes us human, that takes part of our self-formation.

Obviously, travel is also very important for human because it allows him to discover another culture, another civilization. It shows to men that humanity is not reduced to a particular society owing to the fact that there is a multiplicity of people, with different personalities, ways of life, beliefs, customs and traditions... and it is what makes the value of men, the richness of humanity.

§1 : " Even if we can learn a lot of things about man FROM TRAVELLING, ITS value can't only be understood by this way. "
      §2 : " Obviously, TRAVELLING is also very important [...] "
