I think secrets can be very dangerous when you entrust them to an unreliable person. He or she can use it against you and blackmail you. Furthermore, when parents hide a secret from a child, it can hurt a lot when the child discover it for example adoption, or death of a member of the family as we can see in the Claude Miller's movie "Un secret". But I also think that when you tell someone a secret it can increase the links you have with this person. So the secrets can be dangerous or useful, it depend on the person you share your secret with, and very hurtful if you hide it from someone.
I think there are two diferent sorts of secrets: happy secret like good news (Jo's stories going to be print) or secret love story, and sad secret like a secret death or a dificult situation. In the second case, the secret can be harmful because the person who know this secret can be not sure if it is better do not say it or better to say it to someone who can help the person with the problem ... We must choice a very good friend to say a secret, or it risks to become a gossip.
Secrets can be harmful to the extent where it can cause depression and stress and even lead to murder or suicide. It all depends on the nature of the contents of the secret and how those affected react to its effects.
God knows our deepest secrets due to his omniscience.If our secrets are not in accordance to God's expectations and if it stands unforgiven before probation closes, the resulting harm would be eternal death- since no sin can enter heaven.
I believe it depends on the type of secret. If it a secret that is going to cause you to sit and eventually become depressed and harm yourself and others (as Pearline said) I believe it is harmful but secrets that does no harm wouldn't harmful at all.
I agree with all of you, but i'd like to add that sometimes secrets are worth than "sad secret", you can have a secret that makes you feel so ashamed, like a woman who has been raped or hit by her husband or her son, or a teenager who descover his homosexuality,... It' a very heavy secret. It's hard to keep it, it's hard to share it with someone and it (probably, thank god I haven't been raped or hit or...) makes feel so much pain, so much sadness, so much shame !
