Dress code

Does your dress code reveal who you are?

14 comments:

  1. The dress code is a set of rules specifying the garb or type of clothing to be worn by a group or by people under specific circumstances. Many people think clothes show our character. But as the saying goes ''Do not judge a book on its cover''. So, does the dress code reveal who we are ?

First of all, I think everyone is revealed by his dress code, but not his whole character, because we can't show everything that defines us. Our dress code only gives ''clues''.
Secondly, people against this idea would say : but if they just want to be fashion and they don't like these clothes, then, we don't know anything about them. But the fact that a person follows the others just to be like them shows us a part of her character : she wants to please the others and follows them to be like the ''mass''.
Thirdly, we sometimes hear : people can also ''cheat'' and wear something different from his reality, so we can't guess who he is : but, again, we learn that this person is, or funny, or mysterious to hide his personality. Some people also don't mind the way they are dressed, so we think they doesn't reveal their personnality : but they actually reveal that they aren't anxious about people's judgement and opinions, or they hide it.
Last but not least, we are often force, when we grow up, to respect the dress code when we work : we must wear an uniform,or something very distinguished. For exemple, to apply for a job or to go to an oral exam, a good-looking appearance is a must : the employer or jury will first look at us before listening to you. The first impression is the most important !

To conclude, what we wear often reveals a part of our personality, but not the whole of it. However, there are moments in our lives when we are forced to dress in a certain way : then it doesn't represent ourselves.

  2. To introduce, I can start by define what’s the dress code. The dress code is the way that you dress you and which can influence the way that people can judge you. Maybe somebody will come talking to you because you are well-dressed. The question is to know if your dress code can reveal and show the person who you are.

To start with, I say that I often judge a man or a girl by his or her dress-code. There is different cliques like geeks, skaters or nerds and all these cliques have there own style. When I see somebody dress as a skater I know that we have a common point and something to talk about. Whereas, when I see a geek, I now that we don’t share the same interest. Indeed, when you go to an oral like the french baccalauréat, if you wear a shirt and a nice trousers, it shows that you are serious in your works contrary to somebody who comes with snickers. Therefore, to this point of view, dress code can reveal a part of you, but not all of you.

However, if somebody is bad-dressed or cannot dress him well because he never learn that, that’s not the reason why he won’t be a nice person. I take the example of a friend in music school who have to wear clothes made by his grand-mother which are not really beautiful. When I saw him the first time, I didn’t wanted to be his friend but when I learn to know him, I discover that he was very nice. Now he is a good friend. Indeed, when somebody don’t have enought money to buy new clothes of fashion brands which are very expensive and have to wear old clothes of his brother, you cannot judge himself.

As a conclusion, the dress code cannot show your character and cannot reaveal your personnality but in several case it can reveal a part of you.

  3. Nowadays many people spend a lot of time and a lot of money to dress them. They follow the dress code which is a summary of rules which is dictated by the fashion and the biggest number.
Now i am talking about this question : «  Does your dress code reveal who you are ? »
I will talk about many different people and different cultures to share my point of view.

In France some inhabitants wear carefully because they want to respect the fashion to be in a group and because many of them juge by their clothes.
Some others choose to dress differently to be notice, for example the gothic style, maybe some of these feel very bad, they can't cry so they differ.
There are also the people who don't care about the dress code, they don't dress very bad but not very good too. Perhap it's just an appearance or no.
But i have just talk about my country so now i am going to try to discover what is the dress code in other country.

If you go to the Gongo's capital and if you visit the town, you will see an old tradition which is a way of life . They are man who are very good dressed and they walk in group in the streets, they are called « les Sapeurs ».
Even if many of them are poor they economize to pay beautiful clothes. They are the pride of the capital.

To finish, i guess that unconsciously or consciously people watch their emotions or their mind by their dress code. I think it's disgusting to juge people who don't want because it reveal just a little part of them but if they want to be watch as the « Sapeurs » of Gongo i think that we can juge them because it looks like a parade.

The Dress Code is all the rules which define the way of getting dressed in a specific place. The dress code has an important social meaning. Indeed people buy clothes according to their budget.
I’m going to answers at this question : Does your dress code reveal who you are ?

_ At first the dress code is different for a boy or a girl; In lots of society the girl must wearing a dress ( or a skirt ) and a boy must wearing a pants. I think it’s unfair !
In many school in the world student wear uniforms, it’s good because students are equal but it’s bad for the personality. Your dress code can showing what « types » of person you are. For example, If you are gothic you prefer wearing a black clothes, if you are sportive you prefer wearing a jogging and if you are chic you prefer wearing a beautiful, long dress no ?
_ Secondly, money can change every thing, when somebody have a very expensive clothes people respect more this person and if somebody have a cheap clothes people can be mean. In school you can be excluded because you don’t have a brand, it’s unacceptable because maybe the person who is fashion can be arrogant, mean or cruel and maybe the person who is with simple clothes can be amazing .
_ Thirdly, If you have an appointment with an important people ( the futur boss ),
if you wear a nice dress or a nice pants people can say you are serious and if you wear a holey pants people can think you aren’t serious.
_ To conclude, your dress code reveals a part of your personality but not totally who are you.

  5. Your dress code change according to the location , the occasions and so on .
You can't go outside dressed in pyjamas and pantoufles , it's incongrous. There are rules in the society and you must applied them.

But does your dress code reveal who you are?

In the day and age , the clothes are regarded like your personality . If you look good , people have a positive opinion about you and if you look bad , people will be reserved.
Usually, people rely on apparences but it's not completely their fault . Everyone are influencing by the fashion , by the labels , the personalities .

Moreover , everyone want to be like everybody and I think it's awful!
So to conclude, dress code doesn't reveal who you are . For me , it's just something that you must wear to make a good impression .

  6. We start to wear clothes to protect ourselves.
Now we have clothes because we like to be smart and fashionable .Then these are many people who don’t have the same opinion about their dress code.
Some people use their dress code to look like the others .They don’t want to distinguish themselves.
If they use the dress code , they will meet friends more easily . But the opposite is true too.
In countries the dress code is different and each countries have their particularities for example the kilt in Scotland , whereas more and more people have the same dress code because of globalization.
To conclude the dress code can be a way of merging in the mass or reveal a particularity of yourself.

  7. The Dress Code defines the rules that represents what you can wear for special occasions. It also shows the clothing "tastes" of each person that's why, today there is a diversity of clothes very important.
Does your Dress Code reveal who you are ?
I will explain in those few lines the different things that your Dress Code can reveal.

A Dress Code reveals your main emotion in a day. For example, if you are happy you might wear some "hot colors" like red, orange, yellow and also flashy colors like green or pink whereas if you are more sad you will probably easily wear dark colors like black or grey.
However, those rules can also defines what job you do. Like for example, if you are an accountant, at work, you would not wear the same clothes than an artist. For example, you will wear a suit with a tie instead of a T-shirt and a jean for an artist.
Although, this code, can reveal your personality, because your character is part of the way you are dressed and the way you act. If the person is introvert she would wear "soft" clothes like grey or beige whereas if the person who is extrovert would probably wear more flashy colors like pink, red or blue and she would search originality.

Finally, we can say that the Dress Code reveals, (for me), who you are, a part of your personality and your attitude.

  9. First of all, I would say that the dress code is a way of dressing in order to be part of a group, but it can also be a way of not being part of another group, of rejecting a certain type of people, a certain type of way of life. Does the way I dress influence people, does the way I dress really show who I am? Is my choice of clothes free or is it influenced by other people's opinion?

At school, when we are 3 or 4 years old, we want to be like the other pupils, we do not want to be different and the teachers want us to have the same type of shoes without laces and trousers without zippers. Clothes allow us to be part of the same group, to feel accepted by our pairs. Then we grow up, and thing start being different ! As a teenager, we also like to be part of a group and the way we dress shows to which group we belong. But we also like being different, having our own personality. When we are free to choose our clothes, it can reveal a part of our personality, but it just reveals what we want others to see, it does not fully show who we are deep in our mind. Our thoughts cannot be seen on our clothes like evil on Dorian Gray's painting...

Yet, some people -I'm just thinking of women and religion- are not free to wear what they want. Their clothes are imposed by men and society and does not reveal what they really are.
So, as far as we are concerned, is society imposing its laws on us, or do we only show what we want when we choose clothes?

I would eventually quote a saying : "beau plumage fait bel oiseau", which means that when you are well dressed, people think you are a fine person; I think that we often use clothes more than we are "used" by them .

  10. The dress code is an important tool in our everyday life. On one hand, it can show the reflect and the influence that people have on us, but on another hand, it can represent our personality and our way of thinking. Anyway, it is difficult to define someone only by his or her appearance. So, does our dress code reveal who we are?

To begin with, tastes and colors are very subjective, as it is said in latin "De gustibus et coloribus, non disputandum" ("Tastes and colors can't be argued.") . In fact, there is no accounting for tastes. People can dress like their idols or in order to fit some groups but we don't always have to identify ourselves to a specific group, we don't have to act like sheeps. It is because of our differences that conflits are created but it is also because of our differences that progress exist! (And this subject can be link to the notion of ideas of progress.) We have to adapt ourselves and to accept the others' differences and that's somehow what permits diversity.

It is also important to point out the different dress code in the various countries of the world: it identifies people to a minority or a population or even to a religion. It is also our own singature and a way to express ourselves instead of other manifestation. Of course, people will make a first idea of you at first sight but it shouldn't be enough to define someone's personality or opinion. And tha'ts quite a problem nowadays because people will put you in a certain group only by seeing what you're wearing. So it leads some countries and some schools to wear a uniform, and it might be a great idea to establish in our french schools.

To conclude, our dress code shouldn't appear as a form of pressure governed by society but a way to develop ourselves and a great mesure to express our identity and our place in the world. Some people also center their jobs on it and live thanks to it. So, of course, the dress code appear as a great tool and form of expression in our everyday life but I wouldn't say that it reveals completly our personality.

  11. Our clothing style is what we want to show our personality to others and not necessarily who we are. Our clothes are hiding ourselves as an armor that protects us, some black clothes prefer to remain discreet when in reality when you know the good they are far from it, other indicators clothes to win and then show that they exist in reality they toallement lack of confidence in themselves and hide behind that pile of colorful clothes. But sometimes due to the clothes we come to understand that we have to do and who the person in front of us because although they do not reveal our personality they show how we want to be perceived by others, how we are with people we do not know necessarily. The clothes are for me an armor that hides and protects us from the outside world.

  12. The dress code is something who is very personel, you can't find two persons realy similar. I think a dress code can reved who you are as it can hide who you are.
First, some peoples use this to transform them in a person they would be or as they would be. Often, persons who are coated wear clothes who are large to hide their forms.
Second a dress code also can show who you are as when you write a letter, your writting represent you, it's the first things we saw of you.
To sum up a dress code has two opposit possibility of fonctions.

  13. The way I dress is a way to identify myself. It is something unique that belongs to me only, in that way, it is important to me. I like what I wear and I wear what I like.
In our society today, we put people into boxes only based on their appearances and I think that is really sad because people should enjoy wearing what they like instead of wearing exactly the same things others wear just because they don't want to be criticized.

To put it simply, just wear what you want, that's all I'll say.

  14. Our clothes are they for us just to cover us as time? It's much more than that, they express our desire to seduce, convince, to show us discreet or convey any other message related to daily circumstance. Our way we dress or decide to follow a trend (or not to follow it precisely) deeply reflects our lifestyle, our mentality and our social membership.
Does your dress code reveal who you are?

The clothes choice expresses our mood, bright colors or mourning clothes, out with friends or sporting weekend, every moment of life has its corresponding held. Too the style and more precisely every dress code is a language. The clothes communicate to others what we are and what we like. Because when we dress, we provide clues. For example, a person chose to wear gothic crosses, to the black lipstick and wearing a black dress. His clothes are part of it. One can believe with this dress style that the person is utterly strange, but the fact it is a good person with a lot of qualities. As is said in a french proverb "the clothes do not make the monk".

At work, the fashion or dress are equally complex and revealing. There are at work, sometimes obliged to respect clothing. For example wear a military uniform in the army, this role is our business or the moment the activity carried out where one wears these clothes. It's like a rule who must be respected. It is the same for veiled women is prohibited in the workplace because it can cause problems such as racism or prosylétisme. Although the veil is an example which shows the identity of religious woman.

In reality, our clothes say a lot about who we are. Even refuse to follow fashion is a telltale sign of a way of thinking, which wants to be free and not materialistic. On clothes we all have the same constraints, we answer according to our financial resources and our desires. Often, someone who wants to change his life or mark a new turn changes her wardrobe at the same time he wants to change his way of living life!
