Ethics and profits

What is the link between ethics and profits?

  1. Our society is based on the capitalist system . The principal objective is : making profits.
Ethics is the principle to respect moral values through his actions
So What is the link between ethics and profits?

To my mind The principal link is paradoxically a rupture : we can see in the capitalist system the power of money. Some people are loan has everything to make benefits and don't respect ethics anymore
For example in the last movie I see "The Big Short" (very good movie) we could see how the banks cheated on everybody by creating investments which actually are scams, to gain money.
On an other hand, we can see that ethics and profits can mix : in an article of the guardian are shown some projects and initiatives trying to bring ethics in the financial sphere. But it is still peripheral.

To conclude for me these two notions are opposite and as a result I can't find the link between these but a strong opposition which grows over time.

  2. This is really a hopeless discussion and hard of hearing to discuss about business ethics and profit. If we consider one side then we can see that there are some arguments like that if anything enter into the management recruitment of profit-seeking it's may be decrease the whole benefit by increasing expenses and prices.

    1. idk, couldn't we say that having good/bad ethics will encourage/disuade people from buying your stuff orsupporting your ideas ?
e.g. : Nestlé sold dehydrated milk and convinced people that it was better than maternal milk, inconsequence I try not to buy from them.

  3. Profits are primarily concerned only with the end result being in one's favor, usually financial. Ethics are moral principals concerned with how one achieves any results. The link between profits and ethics is that of values. Some people may value financial or personal gain above others or the environment, and have no hesitation to advance themselves at the cost of others' destruction. People with good ethics tend to make choices that may not always result in personal or financial gain, but rather take into consideration the impact of their actions on others, or the environment.

  4. In our society nowadays, it is very difficult to keep a balance between our ethics and profits. Does this balance exist and in what ways should we evolve to create a balance ?
Ethics are guide lines and rules we all follow in order to live in a society. Ethics should not be influenced in any way by our environment. Unfortunately we also live in a society where profits are seen as the only way to succeed in life. This means that in each decisions we make we are tempted to follow the way of profit. Corruption existing in our everyday life underlines this issue. So each decision we make is in fact a constant fight between what we believe in and what would be the most profitable for us. It is therefore impossible to find a perfect balance between those two ways of thinking. Nevertheless we can train and discipline our minds to this task through education and life experience.
To conclude I think that if most people in our world were trying to find a balance between ethics and profits, we would live in a society of peace and justice.

  5. Ethic and profit are two notions that are considered as uncomformable because of their définitions : Ethic means a system of moral principles:
the ethics of a culture, for exemple an ethic firm must take care of the respect of environnement, animals, and/or of their employee while making their products whereas profit means the monetary surplus left to a producer or employer after deducting wages, rent, cost of raw materials, etc...In a world where money makes the law we will see the link between this two notions and we will ask ourselves if they are really uncomformable
Ethics and profit are two terms that we can use in the industry world : but in this world ethic is ofen forgoten to let the profit grow. In fact in the industry old way of thinking the best way to make profit is to reduce the cost of production to the minimum : that is to say Producer don't give a damn about ethics. So in a way we can think that Ethic and profit can't live together in harmony.
But nowadays a new market appear. With the disastrous ecologic and social situation of our poor world people starte to grow an awarness. That means they are now ( i'm speaking about the oper and middle class) ready to pay a little bit more money to have something that wasn't make by a 6years old kid and to eat something that doesn't destroy the earth they are living on. And that is a pretty good news because industry follows consumers desir : if the consumer wants an ethics chair or a biologic carrot whereas the Junk they are already saling us industry will make it. We musn't forget that we as consummers have the power ! If there is no link between profit and ethic we will bild it !

  6. To my mind and first, this is necessary to define these terms.
Ethic reminds us that the human has moral values, and lived by the way of their ideals and opinions. They diverge radically depending the individual.
Profits reminds us an aim:to be happy in your life, you have to do what you want, then you need money. We can say the profit is the goal of everyone in your own life, but ethic dictate how to live and reach your goals.
Then,in my opinion, ethic restrict ways you can follow to reach your aim,who is be happy, what means have money and do profits.Ethic is the way of living,Profits is the aim of living.

  7. We are living in an occidental society with a capitalist economic system.
The capitalism was invented to made a lot of profit with massive industrialization and capitalization.
This eternal quest for the profit is hardly compatible with the notion of ethic.
Ethics is the branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct.
The will to win money can provoke a contradiction between profit and the notion of ethic because economy can be a menace for ethical values like altruism, respect of environment, honesty, respect of human rights or respect of life.
In fact, greed can urge people to idolize money power and forget what allow us to be humans and not only creatures obsessed by money.
Some people are able to do everything to make benefits and don't respect ethical values.
In think that quest for profit his vain if ethic is not respected.
In fact, money is not a bad thing because only those who use it are responsible of the good or the evil created with it.
Profit and notion of ethics can be compatible if money is utilized in an ethical way like a charitable program of conservation.
But it is impossible to find a perfect balance between the will to make a good action and the lust for riches.
Nevertheless, we can discipline our minds to resist of the temptation to blind greed and respect ethics.
To conclude, I think that the link between profits and notion of ethics is complex because respect ethics is a true challenge in a society dominated in great part by money power.

  8. Ethics and profits ? two terms which are both opposite and very close. In the world we are living in the main target it's to make money no matter how,so nobody care about ethics when you can buy yourseleves cars , clothing and things like that .Do ethics and profits can work together ?

To begin with we can say that ethics and profits are the opposite , indeed since the of world war twwo we are living in a capitalist system , this system aims is to make profits no matter how but this system know that he needs people to work so they can make profits . This system give jobs to a nations poulation and allowed the world economy to work . But to keep the world economic to be good they are reday to everything like for example fired people so they don't have paid them and stell making profits or relocate companies in poor country so it will cost less . To do so they need aproval of governement all around the world .
Furthermore when comapnies are relocated in countries were the legislation is much more flexible ,companies will make work people more harder and will paid them less then they use too . This situations alowed sometimes in some countries that children instate of going to school they went to work in this companies in terrible conditions , conditions similar to slavery time . That show that ethics and profits can not work together .

However ethics and profits can be associate in good way , indeed let's take the example of charities they make money to give it back to people who needed . In this way ethics and profits can be used together for the thing .

To sum up we can say that ethics and profits are the opposite but also the same when care of the others and less to us .

  9. A number of factors play a part in making a business profitable( expert teams, productive employees...). In addition to these business practices, enterprises which use a management philosophy that relies heavily on business ethics are more successful than those who operate in an unethical way.The way to a long-term success is to build a management philosophy, ethics which create a positive example for all workers. It can have a direct impact on the overall profitability of the enterprise. And it has been proven that employees who are satisfied with the environment in which they work are more productive than workers who are unhappy. So I think that the ethics are very important because it's that which will do the sucess of a company.

  10. The notion of ethics, wich is the principle to introduced some moral principes, and the notion of profits, wich is to make profits, are very opposite.
In our capitalist economy, it's difficult to join these two principes.

First, to my mind the notion of ethic is very important to introduced them for the companies because thanks to ethic they have equality amongst employees. And when the employees feld that their company his just with them, they are less absent and more productive. So for me it's the only link between ethics and profits, if the workforce feld him respected, they make a better work.

Then, in our actually economic situation, a lot of companies need and search to make a lot of profits, without think about ethics. But a new notion become important for the Customer, the sustainable development.

So now some companies try to change their methods of production to attract new customers thanks to the notion of ethics
