The fashion

Nowadays, it is true that physical appearance is important, and I think you have noticed.
But does it have an impact on our integration into school? What means should be used to integrate?
If you want me to create a subject about physical appearance tell me in the comments.
I find that the subject about fashion refers to the physical appearance.

  • What is fashion for you?
  • Is fashion a means of integration at school?

  1. I think that the appearance is something whose attention everybody pays. We are attracted to people whether it is in the friendship or in love by a certain physical appearance whether it is a smile, a look or something else attractive and again. I think unfortunately that it forces certain people to be aside because of their physical appearances if they are too much tall or too small or too big,too thin...
The society imposes us a very precise physical appearance and certain people do not make the difference between magazines and reality. I think sincerely that to have a physical difference makes our personality and our strength, one little distance itself from others it is rather an opportunity than an inconvenience.

  2. Hi everyone,
I guess that this subject will interest many of us as we all feel concerned about it.
Let's start with a definition of the term 'fashion':
To my mind, fashion is a popular way of dressing during a particular time. However, fashion can also be extended to people behavior.
In other words, it is a group phenomenon that unfortunately takes more and more importance in our lives. Indeed, nowadays many people identify themselves through what they have and no more through what they are.
This is the cause of social discrimination that comes up at school especially. What I mean is that if you cannot afford to get fashionable stuff, you will naturally put aside of the social group you belong to, and that makes me feel upset.
On the other hand, I think that fashion leaves only little of expression and therefore, some people don't dare to be at ease with themselves. For instance, same sex couples have difficulty stating loud and clear their sexual orientation as they don't follow the "norm". The "norm" is actually my worst friend ever since I hate this nonsense word and besides, many people use it unwisely too much often.

To sum up, I think that you have well understood my position concerning fashion. As for me, I try not to follow foolishly this 'mode' that will disappear in few years but I must admit that I don't have such a personal and out of fashion look.

  3. hello to you all,
As Marie, who has perfectly described fashion, it is a way of wearing clothes that either reflects our personality or simply shows that we have none. You may have the coolest jumper that you think reflects all aspects of your personality but if you look around and everybody has it, you are simply a sheep. Like you follow the pack. This sentence isn't nasty but if you're wearing every single day the same Adidas Superstars (or Stan Smith), and a simply jean and a plain black/white/grey top, sorry to say but you are dress like about 70% of the actual population. Be yourself ! Stop being like everybody else, mark yourself ! Be creative, mix pieces that you didn't put together before, innovate. Do not care about what people think of you.
I personally have a mixed opinion the mean of integration at school about fashion. I think that you may do not care at all about how you're dressed up and be a really good person inside of you, but the society we are in is going to makes us think that you are not interesting or funny or cool just because of your clothes. The persons that are cleanly dressed and clean on themselves will be more attractive than the people who are neglected. It sounds on us that the aspects you show of you physically "reflects" your mind.
To conclude, yes for me, fashion is a mean of integration but it shouldn't.

  4. Hello !

    - As Marie and Garance who has perfectly described fashion, we must not forget that fashion is something that we deal with everyday. Even people who say they don’t care what they wear, choose clothes every morning that say a lot about them and how they feel that day. Certain thing in the fashion world is change. We are constantly influenced with new fashion ideas from music, videos, books, and television.
    - As for me to be fashion is to follow the "mode", buy fashionnable stuff, moreover fashion changed constantly and ensure that the demands are being fulfilled for the consumers. People especially teenagers focus more on fashion because it shall make them look good and also they will be more desirable among people especially at school and it is just horrible to discriminate people who wear different clothes. Like Garance said we must innovate and be creative in this society (in which the physical appearance is very important).
    - To conclude I hope that people in our society will be more open-minded.

  6. HELLO EVERYONE!
First of all, fashion mean a lot of thing basically it mean the word appearance, the way you dress and in my mind this is kind of a group who connects several people.
We care a lot about our physical appearance. In 2008, Americans spent over 200 billion dollars on their physical appearance even though they were going through one of the worst recessions in the history of the United States. And, today, records indicate that people spend more money on grooming than on reading material.
In my opinion i think that fashion is a cause of discrimination that comes up at school especially. At school you are not accepted the way you are, you have to get something special or fashionable otherwise you will naturally put aside of the social group, and i thing the life is not fair.
I personally know how they feels when you are put aside because you are not like the others but you are different i think this is a good thing to be different it means that you have your own style and you don’t have to follow anybody.
To sum up, I think that you have well understood my position concerning fashion. As for me, I try not to follow foolishly this 'mode' that will disappear in few years.
    Xx

  7. Hi everyone !!
To begin with, fashion is the latest style of clothing, hair or behaviors.
Moreover, fashion is a way of expression, for instance your clothes could represent your personality. However, nowadays people follows " famous clothes " and they are all dressed with same clothes . This style makes me upset because young people are dehumanized . In fact, they always look like their friends, they want to copy fashionable people such as models. Nevertheless, some members of the society try not to wear the same things and it's a great thing. I suppose that, in order to erase discriminations at school we could wear uniforms. The real issue with uniforms, is unfortunately that we are all dressed the same way again. We shouldn't follow fashion foolishly because everybody does . On the contrary, we should just wear and buy what we love the most.
to conclude, I guess fashion creates discrimination and it's not a good thing to follow it always because it's dehumanizing .

  8. I don't think there's a definition for the word fashion I believe everyone has it's on view of fashion because saying that you should wear something because that's fashionable is wrong to me you wear something because you like it not because you think people are going to like it.Obviously the society imposes a standard a way to be but we don't want to look like everyone we just want to be ourselves, let's not forget that fashion is way to express yourself and show who you are and be confident about it. I feel concern about it because I pay attention a lot to others opinion and I should not.I do believe fashion has something to do with integration what you can see it everyday in schools when people meet others that or not like the standard they find it weird because they're not used to it so they set them apart which is really sad because the person feels like she isn't normal and try to change herself to please everyone expect her.

  10. As I like to say "Fashion is just another accessory for someone with great style".
To my mind, fashion is an artistic way to express yourself and how you want to be seen by people.
As for me, I don't think fashion should matter in school, but unfortunatly, people care about your looking when you want to be integrate in a group.

  11. I have mixed views about fashion.
On the one hand, I think that our clothes reflect our personnality. I actually like to go shopping with my friends.
But on the other hand, it has, of course, an impact on integration at school, but at first sight only! As you start knowing the students, the importance of appearence disapears.

  12. Hello
I won't tell what is fashion because Garance and Marie have perfectly done it. Initially, i mean in the 20th century, artists in fashion used to create clothes. It could be buy by rich persons and when you were wearing one of these, everybody knows what you were wearing because it was famous but too expensive for most of people. Now, even at the end of the 20th century, people dresses up like the star they saw on social networks and can buy their clothes. First of all, the fashion's budget for teenagers has completely increase (everybody think that buying a pair of shoes 180€ is not expensive). Secondly, fashion is now at full access for everybody because the stars of Facebook, the ones that are copied, dresses up with low cost brands (JB dresses up with H&M).
Nowadays, fashion is clearly a mean of integration at school, because lot of student dress up identically and the one who don't follow their style is side-line.

  14. Fashion is often represented as a "collective movement", but in reality it's a very personal notion: some people follow it unconsciously (being surrounded by people dressed in the same way can influence you), others take it very seriously, others don't understand it and will never understand it. For me, I like to sort: as most stores offer fashionable items, it's difficult today to stand out. If something pleases me and it's "fashionable",it's better. If not so be it. I will not buy some shoes at 120 euros if they don't please me, even if three quarters of high school wear them.
In my opinion in high school people are more mature, and fashion isn't necessarily an integration at school. There are more major people who dare to dress as they wish. I find it more interesting than "clones". Of course the look promotes integration (if you dress in a very Gothic or vulgar way, you have to bear the look of the others), but there are many other criteria in high school:humor, beauty, mentality, intelligence ...

  15. Hello everybody,
First of all, I think this subject will interest us because we deal with it everyday.
As for me, a LOT of people, and especially young people, follow fashion in our society. Then, fashion renews permanently and we can follow it through many shows like the fashion weeks (in Paris, Milan or New York) where there are a lot of celebrities. Moreover, fashion is not just about what clothes you wear but also about your makeup, the music you listen to or the movies you watch for exemple.
On one hand, fashion can sometimes help people to integrate themselves in a group and it can be good to follow fashion.
But, on the other hand, when everybody follow fashion, nobody has his real appearence, and like garance said everybody look the same. Furthermore, the clothes you wear is sometimes a way to express yourself and if everyone wear the same things nobody will have his/her personality. Then, in our society and especially at school, fashion can be very important. Indeed, some people can be excluded because their don't follow the "fashion's rules".
To finish, I think that we can follow fashion if we want but what is really important is what we pick out of that fashion to make our style.

  16. Hi everyone,
To start with, fashion is the way one might dress for a particular period of time because it's what's “in at the moment”.
On the positive side, fashion can inspire people to express themselves. Indeed, people often show their identity, talent and culture through their fashion choices. Often people use what they see on fashion runways and in the stores to recreate their own unique style even though these days people tend to wear exactly the same thing like Garance perfectly pointed out : “the same Adidas Superstars (or Stan Smith), simple jeans and a plain top”.
However, I believe fashion can be harmful since it creates a society in which appearance is often valued more than character. Moreover, I think people who can't afford certain fashionable items sometimes have a diminished self-esteem or are left out which can lead to social discrimination or bullying.
All in all, I do think fashion is a means of integration at school and I hope our society can change it. Last but not least, I think everyone should be able to wear what they want without being judged.

  17. Fashion was at first a way to express his creativity through clothes but it became a form of conformity.

Most of the people care a lot about what they wear. The way people look at you is really important but it also allows them to label you even if they don't know you. This is a really bad thing because some people can be rejected when they don't comply to fashion. Nowadays a lot of teenagers have clothes coming from the same brand and it seems to be a way to fit in. It is even more important for teenagers to integrate because they are going through a phase of they life during which they are really sensitive and care a lot about how they look.

That is a pity that people who have their own definition of fashion are criticized because it is a form of expression. The way I see it, it is great to be original, it brings little differences between people and make them unique.

  18. Fashion has taken a big place in our lives, it is notably appearance that counts and thinness but also style, to be always in the latest fashion dress. But ultimately is that fashion has an impact in our integration in school? At school, fashion is very important to integrate, because it is with the clothes that others judge our appearance and our social class, it is now a society based mainly on the physical appearance unfortunately. When we are well dressed, people admire us and when we are not, people judge us. To conclude the physical appearance and fashion have become very important to integrate these days.
