The JDC

Last week, I had my JDC. Since at this moment many people have it, I decided to talk about it. What is JDC? For those who don't know, the JDC is the Day of Defense and Citizenship. It is an appeal day during which people aged 17 to 25 years are sensibilized to the various trades of the army and  first aid.

  • In your opinion, is this day useful or useless?

  1. Hello !

First of all I would like to thanks Coline for posting this subject because I completely forgot that I must go to this appeal. To my mind I think it is useful to do this kind of things because you learn a lot about your society, all the rules and the security. Moreover on this time, with lots of terrorist attack in the world, it can be helpful. However I don't think it is fundamental for your life because I am sure that two months later I will have forgotten.

  2. Hi everybody!
Even if I turned 16 in July, I just registered for the JDC. I was a bit worried at first because I was always told that I had to do register in time but apparently there is no consequences if you happen to be late!

I do not know much about this day, and I hope it is going to be interesting, although I do not have a real opinion about it!

  3. Hello !
I didn't have my JDC yet but I know that it is a stage of the "citizen's process" and that it is compulsory for young men and women in France.
In my opinion JDC is useful because during that day we can discover the jobs (like military) that enable our liberty and security. And we can maybe find our course choice. Moreover JDC is a day to be informed on civic service, the national defense, or road safety.
So, as for me we can learn a lot of things during JDC and it is a useful day.

  4. Hello,
This day of JDC has been invented by Jacques Chirac, our former president, after deleting the military service. This is very strang to change a 6 month stage, where you can learn the minimum to defend your country, on a one day "stage" where, in my opinion we won't learn the first aid and the trades of the army, because it can't be learn in one day. Jean Luc Mélenchon wants, in his presidential program, to reintroduce the army service and I agree with him (even if it is the only point of his program that I agree). I think it would be a good experience for every man to learn how to fight, to shoot, to swim, to wake up early ...
To conclude with, i don't appreciate this JDC, because it is too long.

    2. Mistake in my conclusion : I don't appreciate it because it is not too long.
      Thank you

    3. Hello Julien !
Actually I disagree with you, the JDC is probably not long enough but I think it is bad to make people, without their agreement, spend 6 month during which they have to learn how to defend the country instead of studying. However I think military service is a good thing but you don't have to force people to do it. It is actually the only thing I disagree in Mélenchon's program. To conclued, I think it is very important to make the JDC in order to know or not if you want to get engaged in the army later.

  5. Hi everybody !
To begin with , I didn't do my JDC day yet but I'm going to to it later . Even if I'm already 16 years old , i always forget to go to the city hall . In my opinion , this day is a good thing because young people could learn about security , and military defense in our country . Moreover , it is important because of the lately terrorist attacks in France ( and in the whole world ) .
However , it's just a day in our life and we won't learn many interesting things ( because we don't have enough time ) .

  6. I have not made the JDC yet but I find that it is an important day in the life of a young because we can see some facets of the army and some people can be intrigued by the army and make their jobs.

  7. I think that the JDC is good for our citizenship, it can train, learn and advise young people to choose a career around this project, it must not be compulsory but open to all

  10. Hi !
Like Clara, I totally forgot about this day, so I probably won't register this year even though it's obligatory.
The JDC is a day that reminds everyone that freedom only exists in our country today thanks to the army. I think it's a useful day because it gives us many professional opportunities, it can help people with their future if they are interested in defense and protection. It also allows us to gain information on the responsibilities of citizens, on defense and on civic services. Finally, it brings awareness on road safety.
However, in my opinion I don't think this day can bring us more knowledge than we already have. Indeed, one day is too short to learn anything maybe if it lasted a week it would be better since we could actually learn important and interesting things.

  11. Hello,
We think that the JDC is useless because we don't learn anything new and because it's boring for people who don't want to join the army. Also, it's too long to stay in one place during a full day. On the other hand, it's interesting for people who would like to enter the army. This day also permits people who are illiterate to receive an internship to learn the french language.

To my mind the JDC is important for everybody, especially for those who don't know about the citizen's right and the duty they have.
I just go 16 so actually, I didn't had my JDC but I have to say that I am kind of worried about it.

  13. Hello everybody,

I’ve just celebrated my birthday on February 5th (last Sunday) but I still didn’t go to the city hall to be registered. However, it is quite an important day because you can learn a lot of things. Indeed, during the JDC, we learn and also understand the military aspect of our community which protects everyday our nation in France and in other countries. I think it’s also a mean to discover some knew jobs that are exerced in the Defense and through that, understand the fonctioning of our society. Moreover, it can give ideas to teenagers who don’t know what they are going to do after their studies.
To conclude, as for me, the JDC is a very important day that learn to us a lot of things, sometimes hidden in our society, and leads us to discover, with more precision, the military background which fight everyday for our protection and security.

  16. The JDC is a citizen action that can be very rewarding for those who are interested in civilian and military occupations of the Defense.
For others, I find that this day is never useless because an awareness of road safety is organized ...
It would interest me to meet the military and especially to make a visit of the impressive military installations.
To conclude, I think that the usefulness of this day varies from one person to another. For me it's never useless but not fundamental. However, I think it is necessary to devote one day of his\her life to thank and be interested in people who don't hesitate to give their lives to protect the country!

  17. The JDC Day is a step toward citizenship. Without the census and the JDC Day we can not be included on the electoral lists and so we can't vote.

The JDC day replaces the military service and allows soldiers to show to the teenagers the defense's jobs. On the one hand it is a great opportunity to convince young people to defend their country and to make them realize how important these jobs are. But on the other hand it is not enough to replace the military service which was a crucial step to become a real citizen. It didn't only show how the life in military camps goes but also the strength and the patriotism of the soldiers. Some teenager don't even realize how important these men and women are, and don't believe it also could be an opportunity for their future career.

As far as I'm concerned, the JDC day is not useless but should not replace the military service which is even more essential to become a citizen.

  18. Hello !
First of all, the JDC is above all an involvement in your citizen life.
To my mind, on one hand the JDC is useful because it learns and recaps you your rights and civic duties which have a "price" nowadays. It also alludes the several jobs offered by the Defence : civic and militar.
On the other hand, I think durability isn't enough of course from a militar aspect as said Julien.
But I agree with Hana when she said that you can't force someone to make his military service. However, the army service makes you grow as an adult even if I think that you can get (really) mature even later.

  20. Hi,
First of all, I didn't do my JDC yet because I'm born in August. Though, to my mind it is quite useful to learn about security and military defense in our country. Especially nowadays with the terrorist threaten. Also it is a good opportunity to meet other people of my age coming from other social environments.

  21. Hi everyone,
I went to the JDC a few weeks ago. In fact, it is a day to learn and recap our civil rights, and to learn more about the military jobs. As far as I am concerned, I think it was boring and useless. However, if you want to find a job in the army and if you are very interested by the military aspect, then it can be very interesting for you.
Nevertheless, I don't think the JDC should replace the military service because it is not the same thing. But we can't force people to do it

  22. Hello,
I registered a few days ago so I probably won't have my JDC this year .
I think it's a useful day because it gives us many professional opportunities, it can help people with their future if they are interested in defense and protection. Finally, I think it's important for our safety with the recent terrorist attack in France.

  23. Abortion is a way to a woman to make a choice , if she became pregnant she can decide if she wants to be a mother or not . As far as I'm concerned I totally agree with this system and I think that abolishing the is condamned women . Human rights are woman's rights ,and I don't understand Donald Trump because he is the president and the president have to make good and useful things for his country but what he do now he just imposes his laws . United States is a free country , but it start to become a dictature .

  24. Hello

I just wanted to add that the JDC only lasts one day. I would never join the army or anything like that, so I think one day is just enough for me.
I do understand how people might want to learn more about defence, but it is not the case for everybody. I do not think every young men should be forced to spends years doing things they might never need to do again. Furthermore, the professional armies are much better now that we have the nuclear weapon ! Regular people would not be useful.

To put it all in a nutshell, I think that the JDC is a good idea, and it should remain like that.

  25. Hi,
I haven't done my JDC yet but my brother did and told me it wasn't really interesting. However for somebody interested in the army it can be useful I suppose and I am glad it remplaced the military service. I am not sure it changes anything about our safety like Jacques said but I guess it is not à bad thing either.
