Hello everybody! I hope that you enjoyed your holidays, but now, regrettably, we have to return to school and work. So I have a question for you: First of all, tell us if you liked reading "The Consultant" by Rupert Morgan and explain what you liked in a few sentences. Then, answer the following questions: What do you think about humor in books or in movies? Is the presence of humor important to you when you choose a book to read? And did you like the humor in this book? Why? (50 words)
Hi everyone, I hope that you all spent good holidays and that you are ready to start a new school year.
ReplyDeleteI really liked reading Rupert Morgan's book because I find the plot very absorbing.
On the other hand, to answer your questions, I appreciate reading or watching funny books/movies but that is not the first thing I look at when I choose a book for instance. However, I found very interesting the way Ruper Morgan uses humor in this book because it breaks with the tense atmosphere of the island. (50 words)

Hi everybody, I had fantastic holidays, I hope you had too.
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I really enjoyed reading the consultant because I thought this business training was such an adventure : I would particularly be excited to participate to these challenging sport activities.
Moreover, I love humor and when I have to chose a movie, I make sure there is a humor side in it.
To conclude, I appreciated the humor in the book because it enables ones to stand this alarming and dramatic situation.

Hi everyone, I hope that you all had fun during the holidays !
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I like the way Rupert Morgan wrote his book. I think that he used simple yet funny sentences, and it is so pleasant to read.
I think humour is an important tool to make the lector or the viewer react, and irony and sarcasm are the key to a good satire.

Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteIn general, I don't like reading book, but I really loved reading this one. I think it was very interesting and captivating. There was also suspense and Humor. As for me, Humor is not the most important thing in a book, but I like it. Morever, I really liked the kind of humor that Ruper Morgan used, because it creates an opposition with the stressful environment.
Hi everybody,
ReplyDeleteI liked reading this book, it was simple and funny even if I was very disappointed about the end. Seriously, we don't know if James and Marianne died or if they arrive in India!
In my opinion humour (irony or sarcasm) is important because it allows to keep the reader awake and anchored in the story.
Ruper Morgan understand this and use it to create, like Anaïs said, an opposition with the stressful environment.

Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I really liked Ruper Morgan's book because of his style and the way he showed, with humor, why human's relations are so difficult for instance with power, a thing that lots of humans want.
On the other hand, I'd like to say that humor is very important to me when I choose a movie or a book because, as for me, laughing's the best sensation. With humor, you're somewhere else, alone, and you feel nothing can happen because you're truely inside the story instead of books without humor.
Moreover, I loved how the author used humor because when we're reading this book, we are in a stressful island, humor is here to protect us ( the readers ) from fear.

ReplyDeleteHello !
ReplyDeleteAs for me I really loved reading "The Consultant" because the plot was fantastic and I always wanted to know the rest of the story. Moreover to answer your question Mathieu, I like humor and I think that it's very important in a book/movie because it is primarily for entertaining. Personally I choose a book with humor because I hate dramatic books when it makes me cry and for exemple in Rupert Morgan's book humor relaxes this strange atmosphere.

Hello everybody !
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I really enjoyed reading "The Consultant" it was fun and interresting.
Humour in books or movies is very important to my mind because it brings joy and interrest in the book.
When I choose a book I am always looking for humour or else it would be very boring. The humour in the book was very good and I really appreciated it. The fact that the story is pretty tragic is lowered by humour so it made it less hard to read.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteTo begin with , "The consultant" by rupert Morgan is the best book that we had to read since this three years . As far as I'm concerned , the story makes me laugh , it makes me realise the stupidity of our society. However, The cynism in the story is "the" little thing that make the difference.
Finally, humor is necessary in stressful situations but it is not something that you can put in every plot in books or movies.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI found the Rupert Morgan's book quite easy and short to read. The way the trip turned was quite funny to follow and that was interesting to see how the buisinessmen and woman reacted to this desaster.
I loved the way that the autor managed to turn a desaster into a funny situation. I think humour is what makes this book enjoyable to read. To my mind humour plays a huge role in books or movies. That can even give sense to a book. As an example the animal farm of Orwell uses humour to deliver a critic of the Soviet Union's policy.
To resume humour has different use but each one is interesting if the autor uses it in a proper way. In the consultant it was a way to make a satire of buisiness and capitalism. Morgan used humour perfectly.

Hello ?!
ReplyDeleteQ1: To me, The Consultant is short and easy to read because its survival plot is captivating. Protagonists are a group of top white-collars sent to a tropical island for a seminar. Therefore anyone would imagine something easygoing and perfect, except that everything very quickly goes wrong and goes worse and worse...
Q2: Humour is essential in dark novels or movies because otherwise the atmosphere would be tense and depressing. Humour makes us laugh. Humour can be a therapy when things go bad.
Q4: Suspense, humour and satire are strikingly developed : Amelyosis business principles are unbelieveble (the weakest is discarded : « businnes is savage and nice guys do not win »). The final lines are punchy too: love saves James and Marianne ok ! but they go away with all the muesli after putting on fire the shelters on the island. This kind of humour and moral may seem a bit suspicious! But it remains interesting since we laugh at many ironical scenes (James' reactions at Cicero's speeches).

Good afternoon,
ReplyDeleteFirst, I apologize for being so late ! You'll understand that it would be preposterous to tell you about my holidays in October.
The Consultant is a wonderful piece of art. Indeed, Morgan gives us a privileged access to the beauty and peculiar delicacy that define the old-fashionable English langage, and he does it in a grateful way, that means by making our dictionnary quite unuseful. He brillantly uses Lord of the Flies as a ground to erect a typically modern novel. To sum up, Morgan gives birth to a summary of British culture.

Sorry, I should have said "a wonderful work" rather than "a wonderful piece of art". In the same way, it would have been better to write "Morgan enables us to get hold of the beauty and peculiar...". Moreover, it's certainly not true that Morgan writes "in a grateful way", because it would mean that he's grateful while writing, which doesn't make sense. I'd rather write that "he does it in a rewarding way".
DeleteHere is the corrected text :
First, I apologize for being so late ! It would be preposterous to tell you about my holidays in October. "The Consultant" is a wonderful work. Indeed, Morgan enables us to get hold of the beauty and the peculiar delicacy that define classical English, and he does it in a rewarding way, that means by making our dictionnary quite useless. He brillantly uses Lord of the Flies (1954) as a ground to erect a typically modern novel. To sum up, Morgan gives birth to a summary of British culture.

Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading the consultant : it's a very good story written with humor.
Personally humor in films or books are good but there are not the most important things: a book or a film can be very good without any humor. So humor is not what I researched in a book it's a plus. (55 words)

Hello eveybody,
ReplyDeleteI expect you had nice and quite awesome and unforgettable holidays because now it's school again !
To answer your question, first of all, I would like to point out that this book is really unexpected and interesting. Indeed, what I liked was especially the little SUSPENSE we could have from the beginning till the end.
Then, I found the humor quite well-employed by Rupert Morgan even if sometimes it was more like irony. Moreover, as for me, it's quite important to see in some books or movies some humor but it won't be the main characteristic for me to choose a book. In addition, humor is important for the reader to just have a good time while reading the book and smile in front of little jokes.
