A possible eruption in Iceland

The most active volcano in Iceland is under high surveillance since water flowed from it for 10 days. If you were living near a volcano, how do you think you would react?

  1. Living near a volcano seems very scary but it can be a beautiful spectacle if it erupts (it might be better if you leave further away if you want to see a volcanic eruption).
If I lived near a volcano, I think that I would be very terrified because you can die in horrible circumstances if the volcano erupts and your house and your quotidian will be totally destroyed so you will have to build a new life (if you survive obviously). But at the same time, I will be impressed because you don’t see such things every time in your life.
To conclude, if I lived near a volcano, I will be more terrified by this phenomenon than impressed because I think about my survival and at least, I can see a volcano in eruption on internet.

  2. If I were living near a volcano which can erupt anytime, I would be worried about my family and my neighbours and extremely sad to leave my home. Moreover, I would've told about it to as many vulnerable people as possible and would've suggested them to leave that area until it's safe again. After all, people's lives matter more than anything else.

  3. If I were in the place of all the inhabitants who are close to the volcano I think my first reaction would be to think about the life of my family and mine, so my first choice would be to go far away to be safe and sound. Except that my second thought will also be to think of my house which could therefore be destroyed if the volcano erupts. So I think that the choice would be very complex but it is obvious that I will think of my family above all.

So I think that the choice would be very difficult, but I would obviously want my family to be safe and sound by my side.

  5. In first it is important to know that the most active volcano is one of the most dangerous and powerful in the world.
What would I do if I lived near this volcano?

I think the best solution is to find new accommodation and to move away for a while. Indeed, it is very dangerous not to leave because our house can be destroyed and we risk losing everything. You have to know how to make sacrifices.
To conclude, I think I will have left the danger area in any case because I don't want to take the risk of putting myself in danger.

  6. Hello,
If I lived near a volcano, I would be very afraid that one day it would erupt without warning. If this were to happen, I would be very stressed to leave my nearby house, but safety is more important. So I would put me and my family to safety and wait for the eruption to end hoping my house didn't disappear.

  7. If I lived near the volcano, I would probably be a little scared and leave my house to keep me and my family safe. We must not take risks but privilege caution. It would probably be sad to leave my house because all my life and memories are there but if it was necessary I obviously would.
If the volcano erupted, I would have been right to leave my house, even if it was difficult. And if the volcano doesn't erupt then I could go home and get my usual life back, which I would hope.

  8. Most of the natural disasters appear because of volcano eruption. They cause a lot of damages like the destruction of houses, the death of the surrounding populations…
If I lived near a volcano I think I would leave my house with all my family to shelter us, and I would help other people like my neighbors for example to live the city too. Moreover I think I would be very sad to lose my house but save my family’s life would be more important.

  9. If I were leaving near a volcano I would make sure that it is extinct, if it’s not the case I would take some mesures to keep my family safe and be ready to leave as fast as possible. Therefore, I think that it’s better to live in an other area.

  10. Hello,
I think I could be very proud of living in a special place, waiting for a volcanic eruption to occur.
But I would also be aware of the constant danger this can represent, ready to pack my things if in danger. It must be the price to pay for living in such a place.

  11. Many volcano are extinct but some of them are not. In the case that I would live near a non-extinct volcano I think that I'll be scared but at the same time it 's not every day that the volcano erupts. I think that I 'd prefer to live close enough because Volcano area like Iceland are such beautiful places, but not too much just in case. It could also be difficult to think that your house and everything around could be destroyed and disappear in an instant.

  12. Living near volcano doesn't seem really safe. I would probably feel really anxious and scared especially if there's a risk of it erupting. In this kind of situation I would probably move away as fast as I can somewhere further, just in case to be sure that it won't hurt me nor my family. However, I would be really worried about people in my town and I would suggest my neighbours and friends to move away if they had a possibility. Imagining loosing my home or my loved ones because of this kind of circumstances makes me feel really sorrowful and miserable since we humans can't prevent natural disasters like this. So, I truly hope that volcano in Iceland won't erupt and people there won't get hurt by it.

  13. Living near a volcano can be a paradoxical feeling.
So, how would I react if I live near a volcano ?

Living near a volcano can be thrilling because of the unique landscape, it is not common and it can be a touristic activity like in Sicily: the Etna volcano.
But it can be also dangerous, if there is a volcano erupting near my house, I think I would be terrified and leave all my things behind at any moment is not the kind of life I want.

To conclude, living near a volcano is hazardous because we can lose everything in a brief moment. I want to live a peaceful life.

  14. The action of a volcano is unpredictable. A volcano can be inactive for years and then an eruption can start one day. People who live near a volcano live in constant uncertainty.
How would I react if I lived near to the volcano in Iceland?
In my opinion, I could never sleep a whole night without thinking about a sudden eruption. Indeed, that is a big risk that I could not take because it's too dangerous and I think home should be a safe place. Moreover I can't imagine what I would do,
I would like to save the most stuff but at the same time it could put my life in danger.
But I think if I was far enough away to be safe, the erupting volcano could be a magnificent sight.
To conclude, I admire the courage of people who live near to a volcano but I could not do the same, this is a too oppressive danger for me.

  15. I have never lived near a volcano and nor witnessed an eruption before. However, I have heard several frightening stories about sudden eruptions all over the world. But if I were to live near one, how would I react ?
I suppose, on the one hand, I would be scared and overthink horrible scenarios in my head. On the other hand, I would try to inform myself on the subject and its history in order to understand it more and reassure myself by knowing that it is after all under strict surveillance.
It must be really hard living in a city where you know that a volcano eruption can happen at any time, this constant fear must be tough for people who do.

  16. Living near a volcano seems to me extremely scary and not safe at all.

If I lived near a volcano with possible risk of eruption, I would be really worried about my family and I would certainly move away as fast as possible to protect my loved ones because it is too dangerous to stay there, and I don’t want to lose everything I have.

To conclude, it is so sad to realize that we can get hurt anytime and anywhere especially because of natural disasters that we can’t prevent...

  17. If I lived near a volcano, I think I would always be stressed and scared, because you never know what can happen. It's really very dangerous. However, I also think it must be beautiful to see. Some tours of volcanoes that are not erupting are organized nowadays and it is very interesting to see how nature is made. And if I lived near Iceland's volcano which is very active, I would surely move, because I wouldn't want to have a permanent pressure about what could happen.

  18. Hi !

Living near a volcano could be dangerous for me and my family, I think I would settle down somewhere other than this island to preserve my life and that of my family's life , especially because on this island I can't know when the volcano can erupt and so this is very dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hello !
First of all, I think that when you settle near a volcano, you may be aware of the danger it represents even if it's off since several years. Moreover, you should know how to react if it erupted. As for me, I think that I would leave my house with my family and the things I need to move temporarily to my family or relatives.

  20. Hello !
Iceland's most active volcano, Grimsvotn, is under scrutiny because of a huge ice flow that could trigger an eruption, authorities said. A brutal natural phenomenon known as "jökulhlaup", the tumultuous water flow has been underway for 10 days and is "very likely" to peak on Sunday, the Icelandic Meteorological Institute said.
If I lived near a volcano, how would I react?

First of all, I would do some research so I wouldn't have to ask myself that question. Because I know that I would live in anxiety and stress at first.
Because I would be afraid that it would erupt, and then I would lose everything, whether it's property or even family.

  22. Live near a volcano is very dangerous so I would be really worried for me and my family. For me a house must be a safe place so live with a volcano next to my home is not safe. We cannot predict natural events so a volcano is a sign of danger and fear in my opinion.

  23. Living near a volcano can be more or less dangerous. Of course, there is always a risk that the volcano will erupt but we have methods to predict eruptions. If there is a population nearby, the authorities are alerted and put in place plans that have been drawn up for this kind of situation.
Even with all these things, personally I don’t want to live near a volcano because if an eruption happens, we have to move out and find another place to live. I think it can be very difficult and it is still more dangerous than living elsewhere. Maybe, one of the reasons people want to live near a volcano is because it is such a beautiful place.
If this situation happened to me, I would prepare to leave the place if possible, with the important things and important people of course, but I think there is no reason to be afraid because as I have said, these eruptions can be predicted nowadays.

  24. Hi,

Living near a Volcano does not imply dangerous living, it depends on where your place is located with respect to the volcano and the type of the volcano. According to its location, your place may be off lava's reach. If so you are not in danger. Thus, I would bet that if I were living near a volcano I wouldn't react or even overlook that kind of event.
If not, I guess I wouldn't have purchased such a risky venue to be my home (I don't even think it abides by the law) consequently, living somewhere else, I would mind my own business without any concerns about that kind of event.
