"It's by challenging ourselves that we develop as individuals and grow!"

What do you think about this dictum? Do you agree with Nick? Why?

  1. Hello.
First, even though Nick only said that with the goal to make Spalding move forward to win the rock-climbing game, I think this dictum is much deeper than that. I really think the author wanted to transmit a message behind this funny situation.
On the one hand, I agree with Nick. It's by challenging ourselves that we actually do some progress. Nobody can improve their skills by only staying in their comfort zone and it's also by challenging ourselves that we do mistakes that will develop our way to think and see things. That's how I interpret that sentence when he says " develop as individuals".
However, on the other hand, it's easier said than done. When you're really terrified of something, when it's an actual phobia it can be very hard to try to play it down. And even if you succeed it still feels insurmountable.

  2. I agree with Nick beacause, whether you are an adult or a child, we all need to set goals to progress. The desire to get there will push us forward, will stimulate us to surpass ourselves. It serves to grow, to progress and to be proud of ourselves.
It is a process that accompanies us in the evolution and expansion of our comfort zone. Challenging yourself on a specific subject allows you to experiment for yourself and form your own opinion. Indeed, during a challenge and at the end of a personal challenge we are confronted with ourselves and we progress.
The easiest way is to do nothing, this situation will make you stagnate, worse it will set you back. Seeking to improve and get to know yourself is beneficial in my opinion.

  3. First of all, I think that challenging ourselves means trying new things, pushing our limits and putting ourselves in situations where we have never been before.
In my opinion, these new experiences allow us to discover many things about ourselves and become an adult person. Then it's by challenging yourself that you become proud of yourself, you're satisfied because you're doing something you didn't think you were doing. It always pushes us to do more which can be great unless it puts us in danger.
Indeed, it can sometimes be dangerous to push your limits because if you don’t feel well, you have to follow your instinct. In addition, challenging yourself can become addictive, as for athletes, for example.
To conclude I would say that I agree with him but his dictum has limits which must be taken into account.

  4. First, I guess challenging yourself is about pushing our limits, trying new and more interesting things, and putting yourself in a situation you've never been in before.
In my opinion, these new experiences allow us to discover a lot about ourselves and to become more mature. In addition, it is in you challenges that you will be proud of yourself, of what you undertake and that you will feel fulfilled because you are doing something that you like and that you thought you were not doing. It always pushes us to do more, which can be great unless it puts us at risk and becomes addictive.
Indeed, it is sometimes harmful and dangerous to push your limits because if you are in a situation that makes you uncomfortable, you have to follow your instincts, because in these situations only your instincts can guide you. Also, questioning yourself can be addictive, as for artists.
Finally to conclude, I completely agree with him, but there are certain limits to his statement that must be taken seriously.

  5. Hello, first of all I find this diction very motivating. The desire to succeed is present. Nike is quite right when we face trials in life, it makes us more mature over time. We learn from our mistakes and challenges. It hardens us. So yes I agree with Nike, moreover the fact of challenging oneself is encouraging but can be harmful because we must know how to put limits. If we don't know our limits it can be dangerous.

  6. I agree with Nick. Challenging yourself is making you go out of your comfort zone. To be prepared for any situation you need to have the most experiences possible that are offered to you. I can take the example of a maths test, you practice by doing the most exercices possible to be ready for the evaluation and you want be scared to face it because you will have worked on it with such precision that you will be able to give the answer to every question. So in my opinion it's by practicing that you will be confident to face the world and it's society.

  7. Hello.

First of all, I agree with Nick. Indeed, I think that challenging ourselves gives us a reason to wake up in the morning, a motivation and a meaning to our life. This is how we learn new things. We make mistakes and then we do better. Even if going out of your comfort zone can sometimes be scary, I think this is how we become ourselves and learn to push our limits. I think that even a simple thing to do can make us grow, and that it is not necessarily an incredible thing that will make us learn the most. However, giving ourselves too many goals to reach, and always wanting more, can become toxic. Indeed, if we force ourselves too much, we will not learn anything. We just have to listen to our mind and keep in mind that even failure makes us grow.

    Hello,
Firstly, To begin with, I agree with this quote. I think it is important in
life to set goals to find a meaning in our life. And when we achieve
these goals, we gain confidence in our daily lives. And when we suffer
a failure we come out grown and with a lesson. Mistakes make us a
better person every day. Finally, I think that when we challenge
ourselves, it allows us to motivate ourselves to achieve our goals. It is
important in life to find a goal to achieve. To conclude, yes I think
that challenging oursel|es can develop our person and make us grow.

  9. My thoughts are the same as Nick on this subject because challenges do help us to become a better version of ourselves and to make our dreams a reality. For instance, if someone wants to get admission into a particular university, it is by challenging himself/herself to get better grades that the aim will be reached. So, it is important to set goals in our daily lives in order to give a meaning to our existence and to grow as a better person.

  10. Individuals' growth consists of mistakes that teach them a lesson, which makes them more mature and expands wisdom and experience. А person must set goals and achieve them, even if he fails. Тhis is the most important thing in this path of growth as a person.

A person should put himself out of his comfort zone. If we refer to "By challenging ourselves," in my opinion, this is what Nick meant. We learn and make progress while we are moving and not staying in the same place. Achieving goals means doing something that you didn't do yet, and when you reach the goal, you're automatically going up by doing the new steps. While this journey, a person receives a precious experience that helps to understand and acknowledge some problems that he can face in the future so they could be avoided. Accepting failure makes an individual stronger as a person. So, it is important to do what you want no matter what. At the end of the road, it will only speed up the development of a person.

That is why I agree with Nick and I believe that these challenges will bring a lot of benefits to the person and will make dreams come true.

  11. Hi.

We can all agree that growing as an individual goes with hard work, limit breaking, and self-consciousness. Thus Nick's statement appears to be interesting: "It's by challenging ourselves that we develop as individuals and grow!".
Some people need goals, competition, and challenges not to stay idle, to get motivated and work hard to get better and shatter their limits. Otherwise, they can't find the motivation to work.
On the contrary, other people would rather have no settled goals to work freely, be more creative and get to know themselves.
This statement is meant to urge Spalding to climb the rock(which is very challenging). However, it didn't work well.
To my mind, Rupert Morgan wants to convey an inspiring message: you will grow as an individual if you want it. The challenges have to come from your own will, your desire to progress. Therefore it shouldn't be imposed by others (like Nick did).

  12. First of all, I agree that it is a great technological advance, but I would not let myself be operated by a robot because I find it really dangerous, the robot can malfunction at any time. I think it is important to keep a human contact to build up trust afterwards. The human-human and human-robot relationship is not the same and that would bother me. Secondly, I think that technological progress will increase unemployment because robots will be more and more sophisticated and will be able to work instead of humans. And do you think that robots will replace humans?

  13. I totally agree with Nick. I think that when we challenge ourselves we become better every day because our challenges will be higher. The more we challenge ourselves the more we stimulate our brains and we learn from our challenges or our mistakes.

  14. Nick is right: it is by challenging ourselves that we develop as individuals and grow.
We aren't meant to constantly stay in the same routine and never try new things because, while it can be comforting and familiar, it doesn't make us grow. We need to step out of our comfort zone to know our limits, to be proud of ourselves, to be open to new perspectives... Change is essential to our lives. The great thing is you can always start again according to the mistakes that you made in order to challenge yourself even more. The sense of pride you have in yourself, knowing that you overcame what you felt wasn't possible, is what makes you realize you are capable of anything if you put your mind to it. And that is what makes you grow as a person.
