I agree with this quote. If we don't say our point of view on different acts that we don't agree with in politics or in any kind of areas we will not be able to ameliorate or construct an interesting view. Moreover, in the past if people didn't have a critical point of view on subjects like woman rights we would't be in the situation that we are living in today. So, in my opinion it is really important to always have a critical thinking and act if we are against things that we consider unfair.
Hey, On the one hand, I kind of disagree with what this quote says simply because sometimes it's important to keep things to yourself in order to stay safe. Moreover, saying stuff out loud can upset some people who could harm you in diverse ways. For instance, if you hear your boss saying problematic things you must know and analyze when you can say what you think. Sometimes, keeping things to yourself is simply being careful. But on the other hand, I think talking about things that really matter such as bullying, racism, homophobia and any sort of harmful behavior is primary to being a good citizen and a good person in general. It is something people don't usually talk about because it is easier to stay silent than to talk out loud about your opinion. Finally, as Albert Einstein once said "If I were to remain silent, I'd be guilty of complicity".
We can understand two points of view by reading this quote. I would first say that I agree with this quote. In fact, I think it's important to speak up when something is wrong. If everyone had remained silent, nothing would have changed in the world. Being part of those who have the courage to speak out is very important to defend things that matter like freedom, justice... However, sometimes it's best to remain silent even if you think you shouldn't. When people have power over you, you can't say what you want or just do what you want because it will have repercussions. Sometimes talking can be life threatening. For example, in Russia, people who protest against the war in Ukraine are arrested. To conclude I would say that this quote depends on the time and the person we have in front of us. Some people have more courage than others to say what they think so it also depends on the personality.
Pauline Creisson: Hello, To begin with, it is important to explain the meaning of this quote. We have things that are important to us. In a way, these things are our personality, it can be a passion or a cause that we defend that motivates us. Sometimes in our lives, certain circumstances distract us from what is really important and what is important to us, and we must know how to fight for. We have to know what we love and keep -our values and passion despite everything. As the quote says, our lives are meaningless if we don't fight for what we care about. So to conclude, I totally agree with that quote that is a good life lesson.
This quote sounds like a warning, as if keeping everything in us could lead us to our loss. This sentence can be interpreted in several ways but I think I agree with what Matin.L.KJr said. Indeed, when we don’t say what bother us we could risk to accumulate too much and putting our mental health at risk. As soon as something does not suit us, we have the right and the duty to express ourselves in order to fix things. Expressing yourself is a way to feel better and have no regrets or remorses. In addition, if certain causes affect us deeply then we have to talk about them so as not to fall into depression or loneliness. There are several causes for which we must not be silent such as the fight for equality or injustice for example. Moreover, some don’t arrive or do not dare to express themselves because of their shyness, which is why you have to work on yourself and gain confidence.
Carla SAPPIA I agree with this quote, it makes me think that we need to enjoy our loved ones and say we love them before it is too late. To go and see them, to spend time with them, so that we as well as they have memories and happy moments.
I agree with this quote, because expressing yourself is very important. The only way to solve an issue without violence is by talking about it. If we had been silent there would not be any changes or improvements in the world. Even when we are with our friends or family saying that something is bothering you or wrong is important and everyone has the right to do so. However it depends of the way that you express yourself. If you are agressif you might not get what you wanted.
First, this quote says that the day we stop talking about things that matter (matter can mean a cause that is important to us), life will begin to end. Several things can be deduced from this quote : we shouldn’t stay silent because otherwise, life would have no meaning if we do not militate for our convictions or simply that things will not move or will stay the same if we say nothing, if we do nothing. Then, I totally agree with this quote because I am and have always been someone who defends his convictions and ideas loud and clear. Of course, sometimes it can be dangerous but I don't think we should stay silent because if everyone keeps quiet, nothing will change. I think that we can and must say everything, even if it’s said subtly. I believe that without dialogue, without debate, a democracy is no longer possible. After being informed, everyone should be able to give his point of view about any topic because I think that each of us wants to improve our living conditions, to live in a better world, but for that, we need to talk about those "things that matter" Finally, Martin Luther King Jr was a real activist who was not afraid to speak out to defend his convictions, that's why I think this quote can be a real life lesson and I agree with it.
Hello, First of all, I agree with this situation. Indeed, not acting, or not showing our point of view when we are faced with something really unjust will never allow us to evolve. For example, it is by talking about the atrocities that took place during the last wars that we can open our eyes on what really happened. And I think that's really important. For me, not to act in the face of injustice is to be complicit in it. So I really think that being silent in certain situations does not help us evolve. However, we should always think before acting, and sometimes being silent is the best solution to have peace. I really think that it depends on the situation, and that it is according to the situation that we must act.
Hello, First of all I think that living a real life includes to have goals to achieve and causes to defend. These causes can be different from one person to another, they can be dearer to us according to our story, beliefs, experiences or even our ancestors. However, there are causes which should be dear to everyone and that everyone should fight for, such as the values of equality, fraternity and freedom. Moreover, there are other causes which should be supported by no one. Besides, we can’t fully live our lives if we ignore the most important causes and support unbearable ones. Finally, I strongly agree with this quote which, I think, is truly powerful and true.
I think Martin Luther King Jr. is describing a situation he experienced. And he is absolutely right: "Lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter."
Let's take the example of school harassment, here the child doesn't want to talk about it the problem continues, the child ends up in depression and may even end up in suicide because they keep silent and keep it to themselves.
We can also take the example of murder or cyber-bullying. So we have to talk about it and not let it happen.
If people in our society kept silent and didn't speak up, nothing would've been changed in our life, and the problems would've haunted us forever. So, it is very important to speak up if something isn't right and it ruins people's life. This enormous courage asks a lot of effort, and sometimes it is scary to stand up against the problem and the people that caused it, but in my opinion, it is always better to do something rather than nothing and regret it. I know that this kind of action may cause for example death, but this death can change the whole world. Therefore, I think people should always speak up if something ain't right to have a better life for themselves and our society.
Hello, I totally agree with this quote for several reasons. We are in a world where things work because people work together, if the majority decides to keep quiet about something, nothing will change. However there are a very long list of things that should be changed but aren’t because no one talks about them. It’s actually the situation of the Uyghurs, this Muslim community is being persecuted by the Chinese government, and because the government has decided so, nobody thinks like they have the power to change this. The fact that the government denies it, or at least makes it look like re-education camps is a kind of silence. Fortunately, the trend has changed in recent months and it gives hope for the future (for example there are European sanctions), because on the contrary the population persecuted decided to speak out. There are even wars, today, in countries that are completely silent because of the government : in Ethiopia a war started in November 2020 and no one even knows about this, whereas it has left 900,000 people hungry, according to U.S. government estimates. Ethiopia isn’t the only country. It is also proven with historical moments : the Second World War. At that time, everyone decided to hear and accept what dictators wanted, like do not consider Jews, Gypsies like real people. Obviously, if they tried to defend them, they would have taken a lot of risks, but some did : Resistance fighters like Jean Moulin and they made the difference. Rightly, if everyone had done small things, all together they probably would have changed things and saved lives. But, of course I understand that during this situation, you are more focused on your family, trying to save them, than trying to change the world. We could also consider the question of climate change, where silent becomes a real issue. Some will say that we don’t stop talking about this on TV channels, however the root of the problem is in governments. For instance Trump during his mandate decided to leave the Paris climate conference, even though the USA is one of the most polluting countries. Here, when I talk about silence, it is not especially not knowing, but on the contrary doing things as if you didn’t know them. In short, with all this, we have made/people have contributed to a certain silence, ending lives, prosperity on every situation. But obviously, at our scale it is difficult to change things.

Hi, First the quote from Martin Luther King Jr "Lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." reminds us of the importance of freedom of expression. It is essential to express your opinion, whether it is favorable or unfavorable to hear. Indeed, if we do not speak, the situation can worsen or remain as it is, that is why remaining silent is not the solution. I don't know if I totally agree with this quote. On the one hand, I totally agree. It is important to speak up when a serious situation arises. No one should be silenced. If a person experiences abuse such as sexism, racism, homophobia, harassment, they should talk about it because otherwise their life will continue to get worse and nothing will change. It is also important to have the courage to dare to express yourself. On the other hand, sometimes it's good to be quiet. Faced with the opinion of the majority, a person may be tempted to remain silent so as not to be judged, which may be understandable. Other things can also remain silent because they are personal. To conclude, I agree that it is necessary to speak for things to change but I would like to add that it is sometimes difficult to do so.
I agree with this quote. If we don't say our point of view on different acts that we don't agree with in politics or in any kind of areas we will not be able to ameliorate or construct an interesting view.
