Peace

Since the war in Ukraine started, we have seen that peace is a very precious thing.

Tell me in your own words what peace means to you, if you are for it or against it (a war can be considered legitimate according to Machiavelli for example), and finally if you think that it's really sustainable or not.

First of all, peace is a state in which we can worry about nothing, there are no problems and conflicts, and without peace, we cannot really be happy. Without peace, we would live in constant fear. So obviously, I am for peace. But I think that we should not always choose peace depending on the situation. We shouldn't let horrible things happen because we are to scared of starting a war. For example, it is thanks to the previous wars which were absolubly not really, that today we can live free and in good conditions. I think that to start a war, the reasons must be sufficient, and in my opinion it is not the case in Ukraine. Finally, I don't think that peace can last indefinitely, because we are human, and there will always be conflicts.

  2. In my opinion peace means to rest your mind and don’t worry about the future and I am totally for it. In times like this with all that’s been going on we need to find peace in our world or else this situation is not going to end. And i think peace is sustainable when we know how to find it and manage it, because to live a normal life with no war and no problem which is hard to do but if we find peace we can achieve everything.

  3. First of all, my definition of peace is when people solve a problem without violence but only with intellectual debates. This means that war can't resolve a conflict between countries.
Obviously I am for peace because no civilian wants to see his country involved in the war. In fact, without peace we will be in constant danger and we will never have the opportunity to enjoy life. In my opinion, peace is the basis to build a society. Then, I don't think a war can be legitimate because sometimes even civilians like the Russians are not on their country's side. They're involved in a war they didn't ask for. The only way to resolve a conflict is to reach an agreement with the head of government without involving civilians.
In conclusion, I think peace is sustainable if people use their minds to overcome the problem. If they use violence, it is difficult to respond with anything other than violence. It is exactly the example of Ukraine and Russia.

  4. I completely agree that lately we all have understood the real value of peace by thinking of what people in Ukraine must be going through.
So, peace to me means a state in which one is not suffering from any kind of tension or problem that can disturb one's well being. These tensions and problems can be personal related to a person's job, studies, family ; but they can also reach national or international levels such as conflicts or wars just like the one in Ukraine.
I will always stand for peace because no one has the right to trouble someone just for their own benefits whether it is a country or just an individual. Before, I thought that peace was sustainable to some extent but after the war in Ukraine, I realised that our peace can be disturbed at any moment because there are leaders in this world who are extremely selfish, inhuman because they don't care about people's lives.

  5. Peace is a concept that is essential in today's society,it is proved by the war that is currently happening. To my mind, peace means a sense of freedom and no violence, people live in peace when they don't live with a sense of danger or fear. In my opinion if the value of peace wasn't substantial we could not have the lifestyle that we have today, it is the foundation of our happiness and our liberty. Thus many countries like Ukraine proved that peace can't always be substantial if all people and politicians don't have the same beliefs in this value. Moreover I think that we have the chance to built a world of peace and freedom if we have the ability to gather and think as one society instead of thinking about our own personal needs.

  6. Hello,
Peace means a lot of things to me : it’s a state where we feel free, calm. When we’re at peace it’s being understanding, not necessarily agree but hear the other one, also being wise not always wanting to be right. Finally it’s a state of acceptance.
On a planetary scale, I believe it is really hard for a country to be at a complete peace : if you’re at peace with other states, maybe you’re not in your own country. There will always be a disagreement with the government or between people.
If peace were in our world, there wouldn’t be wealth or poverty we would simply exchange. I’m for peace, I will never forgive what dictators, extremists have done and are doing. I will never understand what is going on inside their heads, sacrificing thousands of millions of people for a piece of land you’re superior to some minority groups is beyond me. I think they quickly forget that they won’t take anything with them when they die, if only they could spare innocent people.
However, as in Ukraine when you undergo violence, bombs, unfairness then fighting back is legitimate.
For me, peace is an ephemeral value on earth but I wouldn’t say paradoxically that a war is sustainable.
In conclusion, peace is the most precious value, it’s like happiness : difficult to keep.

    Hello,
In my opinion, peace means mutual respect and good understanding, despite the different points of view and opinions of everyone. It is important to maintain peace to live serenely in any type of situation. Moreover I am absolutely against the war which as we have seen in the past has never helped or changed anything. Many
families have been separated and no man was spared during the war. Civilian, military, men, women and children have been involved in one way or another in the war and have been scarred and traumatized forever. Yes, war can be legitimated, but I think it
    doesn't solve anything.

  8. In my opinion, peace is a concept that depicts a state of calm, tranquility and freedom as well as the absence of, trouble, war and conflict. Moreover it’s important to have respect for each other. And it can be stabilized through cooperations, discussions, negotiations.
Peace is an essential way for the maintenance of our society. In fact, the period we are currently going through is categorically opposed to peace . When we go against this, we enter into a conflict where the lives of people can be put in danger.
Obviously I am for peace, whether on a small or large scale. Without it millions of person would lose their lives every day. But this concept is not completely sustainable; in effect, it only takes one person to decide to go against it and everything can change. Peace is therefore based on a common agreement between all to prevent our world from collapsing.

  9. For me peace is joy in the heart, it is happiness and peace of mind. Peace is the foundation of the world that where there is peace there is love and that selfishness, misery and suffering always erase peace. Peace is not only the absence of violence or disorder and that if we want peace in the world, let's start by loving each other that no peace is possible as long as there are struggles, tensions and fear. Of course I am for peace. And I think that it is difficult to make peace in the world.

  10. War in Ukraine made our generation realize the value of the peace. Indeed, we had always learn how old wars happened at school but we never lived during one. The consequences of a war are huge but sometimes, it could be legitimate. Consequently, we can wonder if this war worth it, and if it sustainable or not. In a first part, I’ll give my opinion on what peace means for me and if it worth it. Then, we’ll see if this war could be sustainable.

First of all, this war were declared by Vladimir Poutin, Russian president, who wants to take territories from Ukraine because he thinks population of both countries are the same. So on the one hand I think this war began for bad reasons, so I would say that it is not legitimate. But everyday, innocents Ukrainians inhabitants are killed. So on the other hand, I think others countries should react to make Vladimir Poutin stop his attacks. In my opinion, sometimes, we have to make war to get peace.

But unfortunately, because of the the nuclear weapons created during the second World War, if the conflict become global, citizens will suffer the consequences of it and it may be lead to the end of the world.

To conclude, this war started for a bad reasons, but in my opinion, we have to defend the victims of it, consequently, take part in the war to defend human rights. But this war won’t be sustainable because of the scientific innovations which could led to the apocalypse.

  11. Hello,
First of all, in my opinion, peace is a state of calm, in the absence of annoyances, it is an ideal. Of course, I am for peace and pacifism: I think that there shouldn't be innocent killed in conflicts between several countries but I know that this is not that simple. I believe that it depends on the context, but if a population is subjugated, a treaty is not respected or a land is invaded, we can't do nothing just because we are for peace. Therefore, peace- in the sens of an absence of conflicts- can remains as long as it is respected by everyone. Besides, peace as an ideal is unattainable since it is an ideal. Finally, as we saw in history, peace is often disturbed for many reasons. But I think that, thanks to the errors done in the past, we should be able to keep some peace in the world.

  12. Hi,
Peace is paramount. And I totally disagree with Machiavelli's words. War shouldn't be "legitimate" and if it were, there wouldn't have jobs such as diplomat. Discussion is everything and especially between the different countries over the world. I can understand that countries have some disagreements but I've no idea how things could degenerate this much like between Ukraine and Russia.
Usually, powerful countries such as Russia tends to want more territory in order to expand their strength and therefore, their power.
But in my mind, peace is made of many factors and in that case, something comes in the way like how countries all over the world are responding to that potential World War. For example, countries that are led by dictators support Russia on the contrary of many other powerful countries that support Ukraine. Also, Europe host many Ukrainians. Additionally, while watching the news with my grandma I saw that the Alpes-Maritimes welcomed basically 1800 Ukrainians.
It's a good thing that France helps Ukraine without getting involved so we can stay safe and still help Ukrainians.

Peace is a concept that refers to a state of calm or tranquillity and the absence of disturbance,
disorder, war and conflict. It is also a social and political ideal.
I am for peace, now we live in a society where we judge, we say what we think is good but also bad.
This in turn leads to conflicts that sometimes have little reason to exist.
So no, peace cannot be sustainable. That would be living in a fantasy world where everything is
    perfect.

  14. For me, peace means a relationship of harmony, tranquility, living well together and solidarity. Without war or conflict. Without violence or deaths. I think it is a very important state for the stability of our society or even for human relations. I noticed it with this war but especially before when millions of people died during wars such as in Syria, Iraq or Palestine. I think it's normal for there to be conflicts between humans, but death doesn't solve anything. We do not get right by using violence. Between humans, I think we should support each other instead of killing each other. A conflict can be resolved peacefully and result in an arrangement. It is this state of mind that I call peace. It is not necessary to kill innocent people to prove who is the strongest or who deserves to rule. Finally, the war in Ukraine accumulates nearly 7,000 to 15,000 dead Russian soldiers because peace has not found its place in our world.

  15. To me, peace is something really precious but it is like a dream we can't reach. SO because of that we have to think closely about peace. To me peace is when people don't want to be in conflict and when we have less violences.
Also it is when we haven't war like in Ukraine and when population of different countries can talk safely and with kindness

  16. First of all, we must remember the war actions : Russia declared war to Ukraine by invading and bombing the country. We can therefore say that the peace has been violated.
Then, peace means an absence of violence, conflict and unrest between people or countries. Globally, I’m for peace, but it’s something hard to maintain and this since the beginning of the world. I don’t support the fact that innocent people suffer and die for the whim of some leaders and so I think that a constant state of peace is impossible to achieve in a world like ours.
Moreover, it’s very important to understand the geopolitical stakes before making judgments using the moralistic and reductive terms "good" and "bad” to qualify this war. Also, I don't think we should have a Manichean view of this war because peace and war have both positive and negative aspects.
To conclude, I do not support this war, I am not for it, but I think that geopolitics, history, make it more understandable because it’s only one of the consequences of certain actions.

  17. To begin with, Peace is the respect of human rights and every human being, even if there are many differences and points you don't like. Peace is the greatest style of love in the world, which includes tolerance, forgiveness and wisdom in a society and people face all situations. I am totally for peace and against war but it depends on different situations (the war in Ukraine is very bad and horrible). War is atrocious unlike peace which is lasting and long lasting.

  18. To begin with, peace is a state of tranquillity and the absence of war and conflict. It also corresponds to a social and political ideal.

I don't share the same opinion as Machiavelli, a war cannot be considered legitimate. I think that if it were, the end of the world would be proclaimed.
Peace allows us to live and maintain what we have been given. It allows us to be happy and enjoy our life without being in danger.
I understand the fact that there were wars at the time to demarcate territories for example. But today we don't need more or less territories, we lived very well like that, so I don't understand that there are still wars over territories today.
Moreover, sometimes even civilians are not on their country's side (like the Russians today). Our freedom and rights will be at stake in this case.
So Peace is clearly an alternative to that but I think it’s not always sustainable.
It will if people use their minds and not violence to overcome a problem. In contrary of Russia which is in war with Ukraine.

To conclude, peace is really important and essential to life even though it’s not always sustainable.

  19. Hello
At first we can see that the outbreak of war in Ukraine has been such a shock for the whole world and particularly for European people. Therefore we can consider that peace is never certain even when there are no wars for many decades.
We realise that peace is indeed very precious for many reasons. How can one be happy in a turmoil of a war ? Life's sufferings become unbearable with destruction, death and lack of necessities. Peace is conducive to a happy life, one can enjoy freedom to live normally, work, educate children, make plans for the future and so on.
However we may realise that war is part of human existence and there has never be a moment in history without armed conflict.
Moreover even if we prefer to live in peace, war is sometimes inevitable if we are to defend our freedom and our values as can be seen now in Ukraine.

  20. For me peace represents a calm, tranquil state; without war; when I have a peaceful sky above my head. As far as society it’s a conflict resolution without arms, in an intellectual manner. I am all for peace and in my opinion it could be maintained once people understand that life without war, without problems, where everyone is safe and peaceful, is much better. We can even suppose that in such world our usual problems could even disappear because no one will care about anger or evil. Situation in different areas in particular economic or social may improve…

  21. Hi,

The war has been going on for three months therefore we can take a step back in order to analyze better the consequences of a war in the short run. Not only it is terrible for the countries where the fights take place but also it affects other countries on the political, economic, and social scales.

On the contrary, peace appears to be necessary for a favourable environment that enables a thriving economy, and a society that fosters the development of every individual.

Therefore, peace could be considered obligatory yet it depends. As Machiavel stated a war is legitimate if it is necessary. For instance, if peace is maintained thanks to dictatorship and tyranny, the people should wage a rebellion against the government. (example: French Revolution against the terribly unfair "Ancien Régime", 1789)

I am not going to be very original in the conclusion: as always for a good and wise decision making (on whether to wage a war or not) you need to analyze the very specific facts.
