I would like speak with you about a series that I like very much and which takes place in the United States. This series is called “Shadowhunters”. This series shows us a parallel world with Downworlder.
First, it shows the imagination overflowing of the United States because we can see a lot of warlocks, werewolves, fairies, vampires. The American director created a universe divided into two parts. On one side the world which all the world know populated with humans. On the other hand a world sinks populated with creatures terrible.
Secondly, it shows the technical progress very to improve in this country and their masters because the special effects are much evolved. Especially, when Luke, a police officer, is transformed into werewolf or Simon, a student, is transformed into vampire and bites the passers-by.
Hi everybody ! Today I'm going to tell you about a movie that taught me a lot about the country where it was made. The film is called "Detroit". He talks about racial riots in 1967 in the usa and detroit. Many clashes, during 5 days, will make about forty dead and thousands of wounded. The US Army and the Detroit City police take part of a hotel and begin to interrogate black people by torture. This film taught me some of the American racial history between whites and blacks and also between police and blacks. These conflicts still exist in the United States, but they are less important. This film allowed me to put the racial problems of today in their historical context PAUL MABIN TES3
Films and movies have always been very popular for a lot of people. They can be used as a document for school for example and also to learn things or to study about a population or a country. Today we are going to focus about what we can learn about a country through a film.
I love watching movies and in particular « the King’s Speech », talking about the king of the United Kingdom, George VI, queen Elisabeth’s father. He has to become the king because his brother abducted for the love of his life. He did not want to become the King, and, he had a stammer. The film shows the relation between the character and the person that learns him to speak in public. But we also learn things about the every day life at this time in the UK , especially life in the Royal Family. We can see how the future United Kingdom’s king manages the public relation, and the movie illustrates well the different steps for the prince to become a king.
But I also watch series. There is one that talks about the same subject : « The Crown ». It is about the life of Queen Elisabeth II, and shows the evolution of her reign from the beginning. We saw the different colonies during the prince Philip’s journey. We can also imagine how the government handled the second World War.
This two examples illustrate how movies and series can be used to learn things about a country and its lifestyle.
Hi everybody, Considering that an important part of the cinema industry come from USA, I have learned a lot about this country. Indeed, "Prison Break" is my favorite series, it's about prisons in the USA. I have learned the prison system in this country, for exemple the violence between prisoners and between the supervisors. I discovered that the supervisors can be bought by prisoners and in the jail we can see a lot of violance and injustice. It's true, films can tell a lot about the country where they were made. When we watch films, we can notice many things like for example cultures, traditions or ways of living of people in a specific country. Sometimes, there're many origines in a same film, then we can learn many things about many countries and their manners in the same time.
I especially like Asian countries beacause of their cultures, traditions than I learned from films/series. For example, I discovered that there's a lot of ways to say a same word : as a matter or fact, it depends who you are talking with or about. On top of that, their way of talking is very expressive and also funny, but I like it! Similarly, Asian people eat and sleep comfortably on the floor. They can stay sit on for hours. Some of them love spicy dishes! Especially South Korean. I do too now. Finally, we can say that films can tell us many things about the country where they were made because the traditions, cultures and ways of living are inserted in : each people have his/her manners, way of saying or doing something. Just by talking, for example, we can learn many things about the country.
Hi everyone! Sorry, I made some mistakes. Here ismy correction :

Hi everyone, Today, I would like to talk about "Hidden Figures," a film about racial inequalities between Blacks and Whites. First, it takes place in the United States of America during the sixties; it stages 3 women Mary, Katherine and Doroty. These three African-American scientists work for the NASA. They permitted the USA to take the lead in the space conquest with the launch of astronaut John Glenn. They were held in the shadow of their male colleagues. Secondly, Katherine was appointed: she was the only black woman in the office. When she was in her office, she was victim of racist et sexist acts by her white colleagues. Finally, this movie shows us racial and sexist discrimination in the USA in the 1960s consequently these women have never stopped working and have always fought for the recognition of their work and for equality between blacks and whites. A lot of people like Martin Luther King or Rosa Park fought for the Black's freedom in USA in the sixties. Chaima Ben Hadj Khalifa.
Film, as an audio and visual motion picture, is absolutely one of the imperative means and to communicate with audience -both inside the country in which it is made and outside it. There are a wide variety of films for any interests, namely: documentary, mystery, comedy , historical and thriller, by which people can entertain themselves. I think a film makes it valuable.
Perhaps the first and most significant effect of films on viewers is introducing the culture of its nation-men. People have the chance to get familiar with cultural events of each country by watching movie. For instance, in some films you can learn a lot about those differents cultures and also we can learn a lot about traditional costumes, food and dance and the like .
Secondly, several films show the civilization of some nationalities. These kinds of films are attractive for people who have a passion for a history. For example, numerous movies are made based on Egypt, China and Iran history. Most people know that these countries are cradle of civilization; however, they don’t have adequate knowledge about former centuries and improvements which were in these countries. So that’s why those movies are made : to improve our knowledge and to show to people what happened in the world.
To sum up, movies are not only the fantastic ways for people to indulge in their pastime but also they can be powerful and invaluable methods to spread knowledge as well as information about all nationalities in the globe. hadil midassi TS5

I wanted to share with you a story from a movie I have watched that takes place in India, called “Slumdog Millionaire”. For example, the movie shows how child are doing business with gang and drug dealer to get safe, to be sure that they will be eating the day-after and to make money to survive on the street of Mumbai.

This tragic event caused the doubt in America therefore the success of apollo 11 was really important.

Hey everyone, today I want to talk about a film I saw a few weeks ago with my parents. The french name of this film is " Le Poirier sauvage" and it's a film by Nuri Bilge Ceylan. This film was released this summer. This film tells the stories of Silan, a young adult with a passion for literature who has always wanted to be a writer. Back in his home village of Anatolia, he puts all his energy into finding the money to be published, but his father's debts eventually catch up with him.... Through this film we follow the story of this man through the cities in search of funding and future. I have learned a lot about life in small towns in Turkey, a country that I do not know at all and more precisely the lives of young people who are desperately looking for themselves. Young people have nothing to do, they are neither pushed to go to school nor helped. The rhythm of this film is very slow and that's what makes this film real. There are many little things going on in our daily lives and this film transcribes them perfectly. I have the impression that this slowness is very effective because it describes the environment, the atmosphere in which the character is accurately immersed. I have the impression that this small village completely lost in Turkey is really far away, as if cut off from the world, alone with its nature and its few inhabitants.
Hello everyone, I would like speak with you about a movie that taught me a lot about the country where it was made. The film is called “Lion”. He talks about a five-year-old Indian boy who gets lost on the streets of Calcutta, thousands of kilometres from home. He survives many challenges before being adopted by a couple in Australia. 25 years later, he sets out to find his lost family. This film taught me some of Indian poverty. Annett TES3
Hello, I'm sorry I made some mistakes : It's not " the film taught me some of Indian poverty" but "The film taught some things about the poverty in India"
Hello everyone ! To my mind, watching films nowadays don't really help to understand the country where they were made because, in our society and mode of consumption, Hollywood industry is so developed that it is present in every country or in most of them, and reflect only the American Cinema. But, if we watch old films or films that were created before this explosion of the Hollywood industry, independent films, or even a style of films that is proper to the country, we can have an idea of the philosophy of the country, of the language if we watch it in original voices, traditions, type of music.... One of the best example to me is the Bollywood, the Indian Industry of Cinema. This style of films is so specific to the country where it is made that we can understand what cultural things like the way of living or style of clothing, food, social issues even the religion (Hinduism) is present. I saw a film, named "The Making of the Mahatma" which is a biography of Gandhi and the fight that he did for the independence of he's country. This film was created by an Indian Producer : Shyam Benegal. This film touched me and taught me many this about India, like Indian poverty and Indian society. All these facts helps me to understand a bit more the country and the way that the independence was actually made in India.
It is a well-known fact that arts often represent culture in which they exist. Today we take a look at cinematograph which may be considered as one of the youngest and at the same time most influential arts of contemporary world. Through this kind of art we can learn about countries and cultures in which the movies are created. To support my opinion I will speak at American and Asian films.
Firstly, we may analyze American movies in particular the ones which were made in Hollywood. We learn a lot about American culture and its development. For instance, we may see how a role and image of a woman in the society has changed through time. If we take a look at classical movies of 1950s, we will figure out that a woman is a mother and a maid who cares about husband and children; she keeps the house clean and does not have a job. However, if we watch movies which were made in 2000s, we will see another image of a woman. Today's female has a job and career; she is not limited by family and husband. In other words, studying films may reveal the development of culture owing to the fact that movies reflect culture and they are changing with it as well.
However, only films which were made in Hollywood mirror culture in which they are made. on the other side I will speak Asian movies. In fact, those films represent culture of a country where a film is created as well. For instance, Asian movies are saturated by philosophy of martial arts and Buddhism which are the common points of many Asian cultures from Thailand to China. Probably, the best example is Bruce lee's films which give us an illustration of Chinese prospect on the world. Moreover, films of Japanese directors represent Japanese culture as well. In other words, movies indeed represent county in which they are shoot.
In conclusion, although many of us a believe that watching movies are useless, as far as I am concerned, this activity may enrich watcher's understanding about a country where the film was made. In fact, movies not only represent cultures but also share information in the most easily available way possible.
Hi everyone! Films can tell us a lot about the country where they were made. What have I learned about a country from watching a movie? I'm going to talk to you about a movie, named "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", a movie that my brother and I especially love. It's the story of a Life magazine's employee, who lives in New-York: in the first part of the movie, we can interestingly discover New-York City, what it's like to live there, architecture... Further in the movie, Walter Mitty goes to Iceland, and that's the most beautiful part of the movie. We can appreciate amazing landscapes, the beauty of nature, volcanoes and wild animals, astonishing snowy mountains. We can also see a volcanic eruption. Before watching this movie, I didn't know Iceland, I even didn't know what it looked like, and thanks to this movie I could imagine what it looked like, how amazing it would be to see Iceland with my own eyes.
When I read this, the first thing I thought about were Indian movies, I loved watching them with my family, they are really great and I learned a lot. First of all, I learned a lot about their cultures and their celebrations such as the diwali festival which is a festival of lights and which is dedicated to the goddess Lakshmi. Then I saw and learned that this is a very religious country, and religion is mainly Hinduism, and they are very religious. But also that most marriages are arranged. And finally, I noticed that they have gestures intended to say certain words, like a kind of 'body language', which is very interesting.

Hey everyone,
ReplyDeletetoday I want to talk about a film I saw a few weeks ago with my parents.

Hello, I'm sorry I made some mistakes :
DeleteIt's not " the film taught me some of Indian poverty" but "The film taught some things about the poverty in India"
Hello everyone !
ReplyDeleteTo my mind, watching films nowadays don't really help to understand the country where they were made because, in our society and mode of consumption, Hollywood industry is so developed that it is present in every country or in most of them, and reflect only the American Cinema.

ReplyDeleteFirstly, we may analyze American movies in particular the ones which were made in Hollywood.
ReplyDeleteFilms can tell us a lot about the country where they were made.

Hi, sorry I made a mistake:
Delete-"Volcanic eruption is featured" instead of "we can also see a volcanic eruption"
When I read this, the first thing I thought about were Indian movies, I loved watching them with my family, they are really great and I learned a lot.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I learned a lot about their cultures and their celebrations such as the diwali festival which is a festival of lights and which is dedicated to the goddess Lakshmi.
Then I saw and learned that this is a very religious country, and religion is mainly Hinduism, and they are very religious.
But also that most marriages are arranged.
And finally, I noticed that they have gestures intended to say certain words, like a kind of 'body language', which is very interesting.
