A school in an Ehpad

In January 2023, a school will be created in an Ehpad in Barlin in France. Children and residents will share meals, craft activities and celebrate birthdays together.

What do you think about this?

  1. In my opinion it is a great idea.
First of all, I think Ehpads are places that are not really attractive for elders because they are going to leave their homes which they were used to.But making an Ehpad that has a school inside will make things much more pleasant for the elders. They will be able to connect with children that can remind them of their own grandchildren or experience how it feels to have one if they don't have any. Moreover, children will get a better education on how to interact with older people.
So, I think that the relation will be beneficial by bringing the elders back to youth and by educating the children.

  2. From January 2023, a nursery school will be created in an Ehpad in Barlin (Pas-de-Calais). Children and residents will share meals, craft activities and celebrate birthdays together. A project imagined by the municipality and validated by the Academic Inspectorate.

I think it's a very good idea because in this ephad, the children will be able to have discussions with these elderly people, they will have the chance to share manual activities with them. Children will certainly bring life and cheerfulness. I think that the creation of a school in an Ephad can help retirees to come out of painful isolation. They are in contact with a multitude of children full of life: children who listen and make noise, children to tell stories to, children with whom to talk and interact. Simply.
In addition, as for the kids, thus surrounded by people of experience, they benefit from the wisdom of the elders, from their listening, their advice, their remarks. In short, they feed on those who have so much to teach them and who have time for it. And envy.

Finally, with such an idea, the whole society can win. Let us not forget that, in the best of cases, old age is what awaits us all. If we could consider this prospect without fear of isolation and a feeling of uselessness, we would be all the better for it. In other words, the idea of a happy future could make our present sweeter.

    Hi,
I think that this kind of device put in place can be a good thing for children and elderly people in nursing homes. Indeed, it is unusual but I think that people in nursing homes can bring enrichment through their life experience to young children. In addition, for children who are not lucky enough to have grandparents, this can also be a good thing. On the side of the elderly, the presence of young children can bring joy and gaiety to their daily lives. To conclude, this new device is to be tested to realize the various positive and negative aspects.

  4. First, we know that many elderlies feel lonely because they have lost their friends or have no family.
The idea of creating a school connected to an Ehpad is really interesting because it can solve the problem of loneliness.
Indeed, the youngest would be like a company for the elderly. This would create a bond and bring together two different generations. Also, it would be great for kids who don't have grandparents. Then they can learn from each other and have a good time together. In addition, it will allow the elderly to stay connected to the rest of the world and not be isolated thanks to the discussion with the children.
To conclude I think that it’s really good idea.

  5. We know that elderly people in nursing homes are less and less solicited by the outside world. They spend their day in their room and rarely see their family members.
I think the initiative of combining a school and an ephad is an excellent idea.
Indeed, the elderly feel most of the time alone, but the company of children would allow them to create animation with all kinds of activities such as sports or creative activities.
In addition, this relationship could create links between the two generations and could enable to young people to develop values such as kindness, empathy, solidarity or even respect for our elders.
The elderly would give an account of their life experiences by sharing them with the children. This can only be beneficial for both sides, indeed, the children would bring joy to the residents by allowing them to talk with them and share many playful moments.

  6. In my opinion creating a nursery school in an Ehpad is a great idea !
Finally some good news after the recent Orpea scandal which showed serious malfunctioning in nursing homes today.
As a matter of fact separating old people into medical ghettos leads to serious consequences on their well being.
Moreover it is beneficial for young children to interact with elderly people who can show them much kindness, patience and many other positive aspects of life.
For example we can imagine that both populations could share a lot of moments and activities such as birthday party's, arts and crafts, songs, stories, and many more things.
We really hope that this project in Barlin will be a great success and that many other towns and cities in France will follow this example.

  7. Hello, first of all I find this project really fabulous. this intergenerational meeting is beneficial, it restores the knowledge of living together. it avoids loneliness among the elderly, children bring life and purity. Moreover, the children in contact with them develop benevolence, solidarity, listening and otherness. To conclude, this idea is revolutionary for the evolution of society, children will have a new look on old age. And the elderly will have a company.

First, Ehpad are not funny places for elders people often they feel lonely because maybe they have lost friends or members of their family. Also maybe they have difficulties to integrate themselves.
So I think school in Ehpad could be useful for elders but also for younger people because they can exchange about several subjects and bring attention to elders people who are lonely. Elders people can also have fun and bring joy yo elders live.
Finally elders can share they knowledge and teach a lot of things on different subjects.

  9. To begin with I think this idea is excellent, it allows the sharing of knowledge and also allows the creation of links.
Moreover, the fact that it takes place in an ephad allows the city to avoid creating a new school and therefore no need for new facilities.
To conclude, I am very much in favour of this idea and if it works I hope it will be propagated in as many places as possible.

  10. Hey,
In January 2023, a kindergarten will be created in an Ehpad in Barlin. This idea was approved by the Academic Inspectorate. First of all, an Ehpad, ie an accommodation establishment for dependent elderly people, is not very attractive for the elderly who often prefer to stay at home or with their families. We can then wonder if the creation of a school will make the Ehpad more attractive. First we will see that this will create intergenerational bonds between children and the elderly. Subsequently we will see that this may disturb the members of the hospital staff.

Everyone knows that the elderly in Ehpad are often neglected and rarely see their families. By bringing children into the Ehpad, the elderly will feel less lonely because they will share meals and play with the children. This will create intergenerational sociability and both generations will be able to learn from each other. These relationships will allow children to discover the world through stories that will be told to them. Elderly people will be able to get out of the routine and feel affection and joy in a world that forgets them.
However, it is important that interaction times between children and the elderly are limited so that nurses can do their job properly. Indeed, even if the idea of a space shared between two generations is a very good idea, we must not forget that people who are in Ehpad are forced to do so because they need people to take care of them in daily life.

In conclusion, this idea is very promising for both generations who will benefit from it as long as it does not disrupt the work of nurses. If the results of this initiative are good, it could be carried out in other establishments and become common.

  11. To begin with, the elderly in ehpad don’t see their family very much, if they still have one. A school in the ehpad will allow elderly to encounter new people. There is always gonna be someone, the children or even the parents and every year, new people will come. This will create life in the ehpad where activities can be the same every time.
Secondly, this idea will allow elderly to talk with young and different people, and the exchanges between them, between those two different generations, can change the lives of both of them. The elderly and children will learn new things from each other. This will create a second family like.
However, this has to be supervised because there can be conflicts between children or between elderly or even between both of them and this can have a bad impact on this experience for both elderly and children.

Finally, in my opinion, this idea is great and it can bring a lot to children and elderly. But for this idea to become a really cheerful experience we have to keep an eye on it .

  12. It is well known that elderly people tend to feel more lonely, especially when they are in retirement homes. This initiative is a first step at helping these people, and at allowing them to create new bonds and still have a social life.

In my opinion, this initiative is really interesting, and it will be really precious for these old people, who are used to be on their own. They will be able to speak and share some moments with children, who could be considered as a perspective of the future. I think it'll bring them joy and happiness, which are two feelings I feel like are not so present in these people's daily lives. Hearing about this piece of news also reminds me of the fact that in Ehpads, old people are often neglected, and even abused sometimes. Of course, seeing children won't protect them from these violences, but I think it'll be the opportunity for them to feel some joy and some reassurance too.

To put it in a nutshell, I approve this initiative, and I hope it'll extend to other establishments, so that other elderly people benefit from the joy that comes from children.

  13. In my opinion, this initiative is equally beneficial for elderly people and for kids because it will lead both parties to learn something from each other. Plus, residents won't feel lonely as kids will be available to talk to them, to play with them and to entertain them which will make them happy. Moreover, rather than wasting their time and energy on gadgets (smartphones, tablets, TV...) during breaktime, children will have the opportunity to socialize with elderly people. So, these kind of schools should be promoted and we need to build more schools like this one in order to make, the elderly people living in an Ehpad, a part of our society.

  14. Personally, I think it's a good idea to entertain elderly people who are not visited and who have no family.
Seeing the new generation allows them to remember their youth. In addition, their discussions and their points of view will be varied and thus they will be able to educate each other.
However, it could still disturb residents seeking rest and tranquility if the children make a lot of noise and are restless.

  15. Hello.
First of all I think it is a very good idea. Indeed, old people can feel lonely, and not really have loved ones. Life can be very complicated for them. So I think that children can bring them life, happiness and especially entertain them because I imagine that they must be bored. Moreover, I think that children can also enjoy these moments because they have fun. Also, some kids don't have grandparents, or aren't really close to their parents. So, it would allow them to build relationships with others, be social, learn things and discover new people. So I think it's a unique experience that can benefit everyone. But, I also think that some children are less sociable and would feel uncomfortable talking to strangers so I don't think it's an experience for all children, but rather those who are less shy.

  16. I think that it is a really good initiative. Most people in Ephad are alone and feel lonely. To mix them with young kids will help them keep in touch with the next generations. Also the stimulation that the kids will give them will be good for their health and their physical and mental capacities. For the younger ones, it will prevent them to be more inclusive with their elders, teach them things that older have to share with them and also help them to be more outgoing.

  17. I think it's a great thing, because older people need closeness to their family.
Only if some cannot receive visitors, it is important that they have contact with the younger generation, which can bring back memories.

Moreover, the presence of a school in a ehpad will bring joy to the elderly as well as to the children, so I think it is a very handsome project.

  18. Hey,
I think it's a really good idea because we know that eldery people often suffer from being alone so I think that if children and eldery can share moment together it will be amazing for both of them because children can learn from eldery. Honestly when I was a child I would have like to be in that school.

What do you think about this?
I think this project is great, because it will bring joy and support to the
    residents of the Ehpad.
Since they often feel lonely, because they don't all have the chance to have
their families come to see them.
Even for the children, this will allow them to have a second family, since they
    will have a bond.

  20. First of all I think it's a very good thing to offer free meals to children because they don't all have the same opportunities and means here, it will favour the poorest and I think it's a humane act and I also think we should generalise this act and help each other.

  22. It's a great idea to have a school in a retirement home. Children and residents spending time together, learning, and having fun is wonderful. Sharing meals and activities can create special connections across generations. Yet, there might be challenges as kids and elderly have different needs. Making sure everyone feels comfortable and safe is important. Overall, it's a lovely way to bring generations closer and share beautiful moments together.

  23. The creation of a school within an Ehpad in Barlin, France, is a wonderful initiative. Bringing children and elderly residents together to share meals, crafts, and birthday celebrations offers significant benefits.

For the elderly, interacting with children can reduce loneliness, provide mental stimulation, and bring joy. For children, it offers valuable life lessons, improving empathy and respect for older generations.

These shared activities can create meaningful connections, breaking down stereotypes and fostering a sense of community. This innovative approach enriches both the lives of the seniors and the educational experiences of the children, promoting a more inclusive and compassionate society.
