  1. If I were in Detroit in 1960, I think I could not put the pressure on the blacks, the violence that is being carried out in the neighborhood, the riots and all the policemen. On what I could see or lay on Detroit is that these one of the worst riots that could have been, this riot was a violent public disorder that turned into a civil disruption.
This riot was one of the most lethal and destructive in US history.

  2. The streets are empty, there are nobody. This silence is frightening. I shouldn't be outside at this time, I overstepped the curfew, if the policemens catch me, I will certainly pass the night on former just for have overstepped the curfew. The police officer's violence reproduce towards the black people, you can feel the tension and stirred up aversion towards the white people. The shops were vandalized, everything was broken. It's the knock out in Detroit's streets and I try to stay confidente but in this condition, it's very hard. A fear climate is settle here; I don't know when it will stop however I pray for that.

  3. 1967, Detroit, Michigan.
I was there with friends. I can't remember well what happened, it's still confused in my mind. I am going to try to tell you what happened during one of these four days of drama.
During the night of 23th July 1967, I was out with friends and we were going home after a party in down town. Suddenly we saw people run in our direction, they looked terrified and we could feel the fear on their face. Next we heard shots from the opposite street. At this moment I started to run like others, I was so afraid. There were other shots and I saw the police shots in every direction, people fell down around me. My memory stops at this moment but the following days medias talk about this night and the others.

  4. Hi everyone!
I have seen the film Detroit last week and I've loved it. First of all, if I was in Detroit in the 1960's, I would probably have tried to protect black people. In fact, it was a hard period. Policemen ( in the film ) were racists and they beat blacks with pleasure without any empathy. Moreover, they were not condemned for their violence and the deaths that they had caused.
Indeed, there were only white people in the jury of the court when they were judged.
However, they had to give money to the victim's families. Policemen were not allowed to work again ( as policemen ).
Nevertheless, I think that if I was there, I would have testified against policemen or tried to be part of the jury to condemn them. Besides, I would have used my skin color to be listened by others for black people's rights.
To sum up, If i was in the city, I would have helped black people as much as I could. Furthermore, I would have tried anything to remove injustice, because that's makes me sick.

  5. If I were in Detroit in 1960, I didn't participate violence on the blacks people because the violence not resolves the problems. When the police tried to place between the fights and to board the culprits of robberies or breakages, the blacks stoned the police and created a riot. At every intervention of police or military in the town there were riot. Also there were burrs police against the blacks. And the blacks gave up to plunder, fired, and fired guns against police and military. Riots of 1960's in Detroit, were among the most deadly and destructive riots in United States history.

  6. Hello !

    - First of all, I saw the movie by K.Bigelow named Detroit last week with Lena and it was very interesting ! The acting, the plot and the scenario were just fantastic.
    - But if I was in Detroit in the 1960's, I would probably have tried to protect colored people and tried to fight on their side against policemen. In fact, like we can see in the film lot of policemen were racist and they didn't miss an opportunity to kill a black person. It was really sad to see all these old mentalities which are unfortunately still current.
    - Finally, I would also have tried to condamn police officers and tried to stop all these violences during the segregation.

  7. If I was living in Detroit in 1960´s I think I was exceeded by the events.
First, I really do not know how I would have reacted. I would have enjoyed to be part of the revolted people, who helped blacks and who were paralyzed by the fear. However, I do not know if I would be this type of person, or just an ordinary one.

Now, I can not imagine the violence incurred by blacks. I find it inhumane, and barbaric.
I can’t realised how we got to this point.

The film of K. Bigelow « Detroit » allows us to realise the reality of this conflict.
I think that is a good point because this film is like a memory and a proof of the past.

  8. If I was present at Detroit in the 1960's I think I would try to stop the violences against black people, and restore peace between everyone.
First, I can't understand how people can be so violent. People were killed just because they were black, they didn't even represent a danger for the society. In fact the policemen are the most dangerous ones, as they murder innocent people.
Also, I can understand that black people were revolted, however by destroying their own district they didn't show to the white people that segregation was a big mistake, they just strengthened the idea that cultural mix was unsafe.
If I was a white people living in Detroit I would try to stop the conflicts between black and white people. I would make speeches against racism and for cultural equalities, like a famous man named Martin Luther King. I would try to be part of the government and create laws against segregation. Also, I would talk with black people to make them stop destroying their district. Finally I would try to control the policemen so that they can stop violences against black people.

  9. Hi everyone, I made some mistakes in my last post: I said "I overstepped the curfew" but it's rather "I didn't respect the curfew" and "policemens" wich is rather "police men".
Sorry for my mistakes. See you.

  13. July 1967
The city of Detroit undergoes big violence. Riots burst to denounce the racial segregation but also the war of Vietnam. Stores are plundering; everybody is frightening. Detroit is under stress. We faced crises. I am afraid for my family, to go out one, became dangerous. We could be killed! Our city dies little by little under the violence. Besides, different march are organizing to denounce the excessive power of law enforcement. Thanks to it, several police officers are arresting for the murders that they committed. This period will remain a period that upset a lot me. Many people were a victim of his violence, others died of it; that they rest in peace.
