In the comic book "The New Superman", the author made the main character (who's the son of Superman) bisexual. We can see him kissing his male crush. What do you think about it?
I think it's a good thing that the hero that a lot of people like and admire isn't always shown with the same characteristics, the comic book have evolved with the time and the mentality. Showing these scenes in these books helps people see them as a normal thing, and not be afraid to have different feelings than what appeared to be "normal" in these books, in the past. The new James Bond also wants to evolve with the place of womens becoming more and more important.
I made some mistakes : - that the hero who is loved and admired by a lot of people - comic books - with time and - normal thing, and are not afraid of having different feelings - the place of women
I haven't read the comic but I think it's a good idea, it changes the stories of the superheroes who will save their beloved (woman). It also allows the reader of this comic, who may be young, to show them that a man and other men cannot be together and not just a man and a woman.
Hello, This choice made by the author of the comic « The New Superman » is a good thing because of two main things. First, I think It helps to show diversity in order to represent everyone in the population and not just situations and person who are considered « normal ». Thus bisexuel can identificate and more and more people can see themselves in comic book heroes. Writting comics isn’t just telling story it is also a way to convey message to the reader and choices made by authors can aware people on something and rid them of their prejudices. To conclude I think it is important to make comic heroes evoluate because society is evoluating. I hope that it will help to fight prejudices. CUTTAIA Lou Ann
Hello, Superman has always represented the typical heterosexual American man. The fact that her son is now bisexual breaks his somewhat smooth image. But above all, it's a message of openness and tolerance towards members of the LGBT community: the message is if Superman's son is bisexual it is not that bad!
I think it's a good idea firstly because the youngest who read this comic book can relate to this new superhero which shows that you should not be afraid of having different feelings. To finish it's very good that the dc comics and marvel include new characters from minorities such as black panther the first black super hero. This univers more and more represents the real world. Ilena Allouche
In my opinion, this idea break the legend of superman because we know that superman is very strong and looks very male because of his muscles and his charisma so i think his son might be the same. It’s a good thing to show the evolution of the society but unfortunately, because of that, we will imagine now a hero not very male to compare to his father so it will break the myth of the main hero of DC Comics. Raphael VINOT T*2
First of all, I think it's a good idea. Indeed, some people can feel different, or even excluded sometimes, and this can allow them to identify to a character, and especially to feel less alone. The author's choice to introduce this character can help many people. In addition, it shows that diversity is much more accepted today. For example, 20 years ago, we would never have been able to find a character representing a minority in a comic book, and I think it shows the evolution that has taken place.
Hello, I think that’s a very good idea. On the one hand, it shows gender orientation in an uninhibited way and on the other hand it teaches readers, who may be young, that you can love someone who is of the opposite sex. Thereby, it shows that society evolutes, no shame to love men being a man or a woman loving women. The fact that this is a famous book, it will also make parents understand (those who aren’t open-minded), that this is not a pass in life or a period of adolescence crisis, you can’t change who you love. Furthermore, it allows to the readers that have strict parents to know that they can love who they want and that they are normal. Charlie Jade, 104
Hello, Nowadays, it is still not seen as "normal" to be bisexual and I think that it is partly due to TV stereotypes. When we are children and we watch cartoons, the characters become our examples and especially the hero. Since a long time, the hero are represented as heterosexual and virile men so little boys think this is the standard and they want to look like them. In that sense, I think that making the main character bisexual is a pretty good idea because it allows children to be more open-minded and it normalizes the bisexuality. On the other hand, this is not a reason to represent all the hero as bisexual men or women.
I think that the author's idea to make the hero bisexuel is extremely clever as it introduces kids to the sexual orientation diversity and takes them out of a so called bubble. Moreover, it makes the comic book more unique by not having a typical hero with a same overrated story. In fact, comic book authors and cartoon makers should focus on creating more content like this in order to have a more welcoming and non-judgemental society in the future.
Hello, the author of the story said he wants to create heroes so that everybody can identify with them, so we can see the main character kissing a man and coming to terms with his sexuality. In my opinion this is a very good message from the author who takes a risk because unfortunately many people remain shocked and boycott the comic for that. I think this decision participate to advances mentalities and show that regardless of sexuality, a hero remains a hero, and it transposes to real life. THIBAULT Jadd T01
Personally, I think the author was right in taking this decision, it reflects the evolution of society's mindset over time. Indeed, if we go back a few decades, there were almost no characters in films or books that were not heterosexual. Children only grew up with this image in mind, so they could feel different when they discovered they were homosexual. Today, decisions like the one taken for the Superman comic book normalize homosexuality in the eyes of all. Luna Dequaire
Hello, I really don’t care at all. I guess it’s good for the lgbtq+ community. Other than that, I don’t have any opinion on this.
I don’t get why people are making such a big deal about this, Jon is a new character so it’s not like he has a long-established history of being straight or anything, and even if you think it’s forced diversity or whatever, at least wait and see how it’s handled in the story.
So Superman’s son being bisexual doesn’t really matter to me.
I think that today we made a lot of advances, we are in 2021 now, are mindset is very open to any kind of relations and all of those should be accepted and are normal. If we go back in time it was really hard for non-heterosexual individus to be proud of you they were and accept themselves because they were discriminated. Marvel is a very known editor and sells a lot of comics, and what they just did proves that any relation should be normalized.
To my mind, this idea is clever and powerful as, to a certain extent, it could change people’s thoughts on bisexual people, and it is an effective way to foster acceptance of bisexuals.
Comics have always been an efficient mean of communication to influence and change people’s mind, in fact, it has been used as propaganda throughout history.
That is why I think this idea is genuinely good and will help people to accept the sexuality of others.
Hi, in my opinion it is a good idea to diversifysexual orientations in fiction. Indeed, since our childhood we’ve been "fed" with heterosexual characters so much, it became almost boring. By introducing a bisexual hero in their comic, DC killed two birds with one stone : on one side they will shake up the narrative of the series and on the other side they will normalize bisexuality in the readers’ mind. However the DC fandom can be very toxic and childish so they got mad by seeing two fictional characters, who doesn’t even exist, kissing. I’ve heard that the staff even received death treats which proves that some people still stay close minded. Ninon Chirouze
I am very happy to see this because there is a lot of discrimination against the LGBT community and here we can see a bisexual super hero who is portrayed as a strong person and not a weak one as the homophobes imply. Thanks to this author, bisexual people can also identify with themselves and not to think they are less important.
