Sales

Sales! Most people take advantages of this moment to  buy things (clothes, shoes, etc). Nevertheless, Some people during this period, tend to buy a lot because it's on sale. But do they really need it?

  • What do you do during the sales period?
  • Are you more of a spender or an economist?
I suggest you do this little test that is related to the previous question: http://www.themintgrad.org/try-it/what-kind-of-spender-are-you/

  1. Sales are the moment when I buy a lot of thins just like everyone .Well it's even more harder for me because sales comes on my birthday so I get money and everywhere I see sales I want to buy it but sometimes I don't need it and i never use it that's rudiculous but I'm sure I'm not the only one.Obviously I'm a spender and absolutely not an economist and so my mother is that's even harder to resist to some things. As a result I would say that I'm a compulsive spender during sales and I can't resist to anything which is not a bad thing for brands by the way.

    1. I just want to point out a few language errors that you need to correct in your comment: Vocabulary: You can't use 'moment' for a time period, so can say 'Sales are the times when...'; 'economist' is someone who studies economics, not someone who saves money, so you can say 'I'm not someone who economises during sales.'/ Spelling check: 'things', 'ridiculous'/ Grammar check: 'sales come (NOT 'comes') on my birthday...'; 'so is my mother...'; 'can't resist things...(NOT 'resist to').

    2. In my opinion, sales are clearly a way for stores to sell a lot more than the rest of the year, and it works ! It must be said that it is difficult to resist against certain prices …

Personally, I spend almost nothing in clothes throughout the year. Therefore, I admit that at the time of sales, I take the opportunity to let go and buy what I need. Afterwards, I confess I do not necessarily really need all that I buy. But once in a while, I think it's not a crime to get a little fun, especially during this period which is still worth it !

Of course all this concerns me. But when I watch some videos where people are ready to fight for just clothes, I find it ridiculous and I think the sales make some of us completely crazy. Too bad ...

  2. Hello,
During the sales period I like to go shopping a little bit because I love mode and make up so this is very interresting for me to have items in lawest prices. But on sales period I only buy items that I want for a long time, I don't buy to much because I am also against the consumer society that's why I prefer to save my money for things that I need or to give it to charities, doing that gives me a lot more satisfaction. I also love sales because it permit me to buy beautiful books because books are one of my passion and they are unfortunately very expensive.

    1. Just a few things you could correct in your comment:
Vocabulary: fashion (not 'mode'); '...so it is very interesting to buy items at such low prices...';'...during the sales period... (NOT 'on'); '...don't buy too much'/ Grammar: 'I also love sales because they (not 'it' for plural) permit me...'. You also need to split your sentences, instead of using 'because', 'that's why', 'doing that', etc. in the same sentence. For instance, you could say "But during the sales I only buy items that I want for a long time, and I don't buy too much. Since I am also against a consumeristic society, I prefer to save my money...charities. Doing this gives me a lot more satisfaction."

  3. The sales period, is arrived two times in the year. In winter and and in Summer. All the products in shop are cheaper than other days.
During the sales period, I do shopping, a lot of shopping. because it is a very good advantage because all of the items are not expensive at all. This period allow people to indulge itself. During the sales I am more of a spender. Because when you see some items at 3€ instead of 15€, my mind say "buy this items", just because it is not expensive at all...
I think the society of consumption want that. Therefore, many poeple spend a lot of money (more than the other days) on trivial things.

    1. Here are some things you could correct:
"The sales period comes/takes place (NOT 'is arrived') two times in a year." "All the products in the shops are cheaper than on other days." "This period allows people to indulge themselves." "...buy this item (not 'items' for singular). "I think the society of consumerism wants that."

  4. Hi everyone !
To begin, most of the time, except for things that I know won't be on sales I wait until the sales to buy. I always manage to get the best deals. For example imagine a pair of real leather boots that were supposed to cost 150euros, guess how much I paid them. 15 euros !
I think I more of a spender, once I have saved a lot of money I really enjoy spending it on things I've been waiting a while for and buying them my self.

  6. Hi everybody!

First of all , the sales have been created for the middle class, in fact in our society , fashion is a way to participate socially.Young people take the opportunity to dress up with fashionable brands ,to spend their money in clothes , shoes , bags , accessories and many others things .

In my opinion , I don't find any good clothes , just some tee shirts or accessories , in those periods of time so , I usually wait for the next collection and spend my money in it even if it is a little more expensive but I think that it is most cost-effective to buy after the sales. Moreover , it seem that the things we buy in the sales wear out quickly , that's why I prefer abstain me. So I really think that I am an economist!

    1. A few errors to point out that would improve your writing: "spend their money on things..."(NOT 'spend in'); "I prefer to abstain from shopping during sales. (NOT 'abstain me'); 'economist' is usually someone who studies economics, and is not used in this context to describe someone who economises.

  7. the test "said" I am a miser. I really do not feel as a miser, on the contrary I found myself pretty generous, like If one friend of mine needs for instance 5 euros to eat or something, I will give it. of course he'll give it back to me later but I can pass my friends before my needs. to respond the question,
firstly, during the sales period I check the online sites of the brand I wanna go to, to see if they've got things I like, to not waste my time while I'm doing the sales in store. and then, I go at the stores and buy stuffs.
however if something that I really want is out of my budget (like if it's over 20 euros in sale) I do not buy it. in this sens I see myself as an economist. I also try to avoid buying things when it's not the sales

  8. The sales allow people to buy something they want at a lower price. Personally, I don't really tend to do the sales, althought I like to go shopping; but the problem is finding the right day to go! During the sales, I'm not one of the people who decide to buy lots of stuff just because it's the sales. I prefer to buy something that I like and that I'm sure I would put; but especially that I might need! I prefer to keep my money for more important things. So, I would say I'm an economist rather than a spender.

  9. Hi everyone !
First of all , I didn't shop yet during the sales this year but I'm going to do it maybe next weak . I love shopping with friends and trying new clothes in the changing rooms with them , it's quite funny . However , I don't spend lots of money during the sales because firstly : they are so much people downtown and I don't like that . Secondly , I don't really need to buy clothes but I like having new ones , it depends on my mood . One day , I can spend lots of money and then nothing for a month . And what about the others ? Do you love sales ?

  10. Hi,
To begin with, I think sales is a good idea because people find clothes or others things with a lower price and shops make money. It increase the economy. During the sales, I'm not one of the people who decide to buy lots of stuff just because it's the sales. But, I often buy somes shoes or clothes but not too much. I see some people buying so much clothes and I think they don't need it. To finish I hope I will find lower shoes...

  11. Hello !

    - Sales is when all products in shops are cheaper than other days. To my mind it is a great period to buy lots of things, change your clothes and spend good times.
    - As for me, last week I bought shoes and a beautiful jumper ( it wasn't on sale, it was the new collection haha ) but I didn't find lots of thing this year I am disappointed. I did the test and he " said " that I am an economist person but sometimes it is not true.
    - To finish I must admit that I am lucky to do shopping whenever I want because sales are always after Christmas and I heard on the Tv that many people are waiting for the sales to buy Christmas' present, it is very sad.

  12. Personally, I don't shop that much during sales, because I rarely find items I like. Most of the time, the clothes I'd buy are part of the new collection, which is unfortunate. I go shopping with my friends anyway because it's always fun and we like to have each other's opinions on clothes.
My mom is definitely a saver so I'm used to spending money only on things I really need. I would therefore say I'm more of a saver, or at least I try to be.

  13. The test "says" that I am a spender...
It's not totally wrong, if something really pleases me I will not really look at the prices, but it's also very false: I work "by heart stroke" and as I am very difficult to wear ( much less for accessories or decoration), I feel like I don't spend much because I often come back without anything after shopping. My way of thinking doesn't change during sales, especially since they are often old collections ... let's say that if I have spotted something a long time a little expensive, I expect to be able to buy it during the sales period. To conclude, I am very happy because my birthday is just in the middle of the sales, so it's convenient to buy and get gifts without feeling guilty!

  14. Hi everyone,
As all of you underlined, sales are a good opportunity to allow people to get new stuff.
It shows how much some people are crazy about shopping, what's not totally my case although I really like it.
Most people (me among them...) buy new clothes whereas they don't need it at all and I think it is a real problem in our occidental societies.
Regardless, I always spend good time doing shopping with my mother mainly so I am not going to complain about.

  15. Hello everyone,
I am afraid to say that the test said I was a "spender" and unfortunatly it is true ... I really don't like this aspect of my personnality but most of the time I us the money that I spend to make presents to my family because I love to make them happy. But durring the sales, I always finish by regretting most of the things I bought because I just buy it because it seemed cool at the begining and then I tell my self "I shouldn't have spent all this money for that". Usually when it is sales I go on expensive shops to buy less expensive things, because I think it is ridiculous to spend a hundred euro for a white shirt (and believe me it exists). But, I usually don't spend a lot durring winter sales because it is on school time and I am too buisy to go shopping, I usually make sales in summer because it is funnier to make shopping when it is sunny and school is over.

  16. During the sales period, everything is made to make you buy ! During this period, I love doing shopping with my friends or my mother and the prices are very attractive. Moreover, it is very difficult for me to resist to buy something because my birthday is in January, just during the sales, so I receive money and I need to spend it ! But, I try to buy just the things I need because sometimes, clothes are "fashion" just for a moment. To answer you question, I think I am an spender, but a rational spender !

  17. Hello everyone!

I love shopping even if I wish I wasn't so superficial...
But I know I could not survive without these afternoons I spend with my bestfriend on Jean medecin... Furthermore we both have the same taste and it is so fun !

I knew the test was going to grade me as a spender! I love to spend money on clothes but I think I also waste a lot of money when I go out or at noon. But I like to make myself a favor at the moment rather than having a lot of money on my bank account!

  18. Sales represent an important period for shopping fans and thrifty people.

They happen twice a year and last six weeks. The consumption increases during this period which is good for the shops that want to get rid of their stocks. The prices get lower which attract a lot of people.

I am not really the kind of person who hurry when sales begin. Even if it's a good occasion to buy the articles that were too expensive before the sales, I can't bear crowd in shops. I prefer to wait the last weeks to enjoy a shopping day with friends. Sales are good but I don't see me as someone economical.
