Nice

Today I wanted to talk to you about our city, Nice.
When I think there are tourists from around the world who come to spend the holidays in our area.
I think we don't really realize the opportunity we have. Nice is not perhaps the most beautiful city in the world but nevertheless, it is a very beautiful city. France itself is a very beautiful country.
Nice is a pretty rich city in terms of culture, architecture...
Every year, we have a famous event in our city which is carnival; it is one of the best known carnivals!
Nice has a rich architectural heritage. During the Savoyard period, several palaces and mansions were built in baroque style. We also have a environmental heritage with the Phoenix Park, "la colline du Château". Finally, at the cultural level, we have the presence of many museums like the Matisse Museum, Chagall and MAMAC, as well as a very beautiful opera.

  • What do you think about Nice?

P.S: I just got an idea of topics for next time! Do you want me to put topics about a city in France or a city in another country every week?

  1. Hi,
To my mind Nice is a very beautiful city. Because there is the sea of a two-tone wheat, a splendid sun (when it does not rain), much of trees of various kinds. Nice is also a source of inspiration for the painters, there are splendid sights. It is also a city very rich in culture, by its very known museums.

  2. To begin with, I think, as Esther said, that we don't realze how lucky we are to live in such a sunny, warm and beautiful city. I have lived a year in Orléans, near Paris, and I can say that the climate, the states of minds and even the people are different from here.

Indeed, in nice I feel like everyone is so proud of their city. We are proud of our dear French Riviera, the sea, the sun and our palm trees! Even after the tragic event which happened last year on the Promenade des Anglais, I think every inhabitant of Nice think it is one of the greatest place to be in France.

The climate in Nice competes with any other in our country. To my mind, it is the main asset of this place. Even in winter it is hard to be cold, and just lasts three months. When you live here, you have the advantage to be between the calm of the sea, as much as the pace of the city.

Here, it feels like you can be in vacation any time you want, and it is what I like about Nice.

  3. I think that Nice is really a magnificent city. Thus I am very attached to this city because I arrived to Nice when I had two weeks I consider as inhabitant of Nice and I am very proud of it. Nice is a magnificent city with maritime and mountainous landscapes, it makes it often very beautiful and hot especially the summer. The culture of Nice is really brilliant whether it is in the food as the socca or stuff them but also in the dances or music of Nice.It is the city which deserves to be visited and even to live good on there! Nice holds several museums, cinemas and leisure activities as the theater or parks as green alley which make of Nice a city rich in activities.
    Nice I love you

  4. Hi everyone!

First of all, I was born in Nice and I grew up in this city.
As far as I am concerned, I consider myself lucky to live here ! I love the fact that we can enjoy the beach and the sun. Furthermore, the Colline du Chateau and now the Coulée Verte add some green to the city.
There is a lot of things to do in the center of the town, a lot of nice shops, restaurants or museums.
However, I think there is too much pollution and too much concrete, and it spoils a little bit the place. It might also sometimes feel like it is too "touristic"...

Nevertheless, I love this city and I would advise anyone to visit it !

  5. Hi Esther,
First of all, I would like to thank you for this new type of subject. However, I'm mot convinced it's the best way for us to improve our English.
Concerning the subject, I am glad to live in Nice. I live in Nice for sixteen years with my parents. In my opinion Nice is a beautiful city and it's nearly always sunny. There is the famous " promenade des Anglais " where you can have a day. Moreover, the best thing in our city is obviously the sea. Here, we are used to it so we don't notice our luck but I'm sure tourists are dreaming of this whether. Besides, we have some great shops in Nice especially in " Jean Médecin avenue " and now the " polygone riviera "instead of other French cities( except Paris ) . Moreover, we have museums such as the " musée Chagall" but if your aim is to learn about French history, you should go to Paris although Nice could bring you some culture. Nevertheless, even if I'm happy to live here, I'm probably going to leave one day.
To conclude, I have mixed feelings about Nice but it's pleasant to live here.

  6. Hello! I love this question !
To my mind Nice is THE perfect city. I don't understand the people who don't like nice. To me this is really crazy.
First, let's talk about the perfect weather in this city. We always have a beautiful time, the ideal temperature. There are not many rainy days contrary to others city in France. And there are famous and beautiful place like the "Promenade des Anglais," The Negresco, the old city...
Then, because of her perfect localization, between sea and mountains. Or example in one day, you can go for a hide in mountain the morning and go swimming in the sea the afternoon ! This is totally amazing ! Besides, you can also go in Italia in almost thirty minutes !
So, we have most amazing city of France! Nice is the place to be !

  7. Nice is a beautiful city, no one can say the opposite!
I appreciate that it's so touristic, it makes it more alive! We are lucky to be able to go to the beach when we wish, and we are not far from the mountain! Moreover, the city has experienced embellishments: the "Coulée verte", or the "Vieux Nice",(before, it wasn't touristic and not recommended at night).
In my opinion it's an ideal city during the summer season, but it's even better to come here as a tourist or having an apartment here without living there all the year, because in reality there isn't much to do if you live there all the time, except the city center(which we know through and through) ... so despite all the advantages, I have mixed feelings because of the shortage of activities for young people.

  8. Hi everyone,
I've been living in Nice for nearly six years now and I have to say that it's a great city ! I first came to Nice when I was on holiday with my family, we all really enjoyed it so we decided to move here. In my opinion many people think Nice is a very attractive city for many reasons.
First of all, Nice is located on the Mediterranean coast and not far from the Alps so you can benefit from the snow in the winter and the seaside in the summer. It's also a very attractive city which holds a rich culture and history. Furthermore, I think that Nice appeals to so many different people thanks to it's diversity. Indeed, there are a lot of interesting places to visit like the Old town, the “colline du chateau”, the observatory… If you like music there is an annual jazz festival which is held in Nice but if you prefer sports there are football matches, hockey matches… there are also museums for those who love art, the carnival is also a must-see ! Finally, it's sunny nearly all year round which is a great factor.
All in all, I'm glad to have moved to Nice whatsoever after my studies I would like to go elsewhere.

  9. Hi everyone !
Glad to talk about my hometown today as I don't realize how lucky I am to live in such a sunny city.
Indeed, to my mind, it is one of the main advantage of living in French Riviera. Moreover, it is a huge opportunity to be as close to mountains as the seaside.
What I mean is that, for summer we can enjoy beaches (although there are too much crowded) whereas in winter, we have several ski resorts not very far. I sometimes go skiing just for the weekend and I don't think that Parisian are able to do it.
On the other hand, from a cultural point of view, Nice has a rich historical patrimony with charming little streets in the old town composed mainly of typical ocher houses and sweet-smelling shops.
However, I am far from convinced that I will not stay much longer in Nice as it's not really a student town. Otherwise, I don't think that I will do my life here though I am not able to predict my future. Regardless, I will keep a deep attachment to the place I am from.

    Xx, Marie

  10. Hello !

    - First of all, I am very happy to live in south of France because I truly think that The French Riviera is the best area to live a great life. Nice is composed of 24 communes and there are more than 500,000 inhabitants. As a tourist center, our city benefits from 300 to 310 days of sunshine per year, it is amazing.
    - Moreover during our holidays we can ski or we can also go to the beach and that's why we are lucky to live here. Like Esther said Nice has a rich architectural heritage but concerning culture we have only the "Mamac" or the "Marc Chagall Museum" so like Lena said it is better to go to Paris if you want to learn more about the French culture.
    - Finally, even if we had a terrorist attack in July our population continue to live in a good atmosphere because we are united.

  11. hi everyone,

It is true that sometimes I don't realise how lucky I am to live in Nice. However, Nice is a very beautiful city that attracts a lot of tourists every year. In summer, we can enjoy the beaches and in winter we can enjoy the mountains. There are a lot of ski resorts all around Nice, so we have the opportunity to go skiing without going far. For example, people who live in Paris can't go to the beach or go skiing as we do.
Morever, there are a lot of museums and the city has a rich architectural heritage.
To conclude, I am very glad to live in Nice but I think I won't stay here forever, because I would like to discover new cities.

  14. Hello,

As Parisian and for living in nice since 3 years, I find that Nice is a beautiful city that has both the sea and the mountain. Moreover, the weather is almost all the time very sunny.

  15. Hello everybody,
First of all I would say that I also grew up in Nice, and I have to recognize that I am really attached to this city because I lived a lot of great moments with my family and my friends in that place. I do totally agree with everyone to say that Nice is a beautiful city for its beach its culture and all its activities, but I would also underline that Nice is interesting for his location too, it touches the sea but is also near to the montains and that's good for skying in winter or hiking in summer.
But I got used to live in there and it's a shame.

  16. Hi everyone,
To strat with, I think Nice is just a wonderful city because of its geographical situation and its climate. In fact, Nice is on the sea side and you can get advantage of all activities you can practice on the sea such as swimming, windsurfing and boat riding. Moreover, Nice is only 80 km away from the country side where you can ski in winter.
In addition, the weather is always very nice, the sun is shinning almost all year long and the temperature is very mild every winter.
Furthermore, on a cultural basis, Nice is not as wealthy as Paris but there are several museums : "MAMAC", "Musée chagall", there is a National theatre, an opera and there is a beautiful old town to visit.
To conclude, I really like my city and I hope to work there.

  17. Hi !

First of all, I have always been living in Nice, I was born there and never left. I love this city, I think everything is beautiful about it, its azurean sea, its blue sky, the heat in your skin in summer, the fresh perfume of fllowers when you wake up. I think this city is probably one the most beautiful in the world. I love walking on its little streets, you are never bored, always find new things to do or new things to discover.

  19. I think that Nice is really a beautiful city because it offers landscapes highly varied. Indeed, by moving in Nice and its neighborhood, we can see a maritime landscape with the magnificent beaches which offers this city which goes along the Mediterranean Sea, a mountain landscape in hills or even if we go farther in mountains (to ski for example), a rural landscape if we have a walk on Jean Médecin, or even more quiet and more natural places in the hinterland.

Furthermore, Nice is a city which offers views sometimes exceptional as that visible of the Colline du Château, as well as monuments or historic museums because it has a rich heritage. Finally, I would say that we are lucky enough to live in a place where it makes well all year long because our winters are not extreme and our summers are brightened up.

Nice is a city alive, dynamic and really pleasant to live as to visit grafting that tourist and personally, it is by trailing round me there every day and by seeing its beauty that I realize the chance which I have being able to live there.

  20. First of all I agree, Nice is a beautiful city the colors and the architecture of the town are very nice. Nice has a perfect location we are only one hour away from the mountains we have the sea and we have most of the year a good weather! But I also think that Nice is quite a dirty city... The main streets are clean but if we go by other little streets they aren't always very clean. I also agree that we have lots of cultural events but when we compare to other towns like Marseille, Bordeaux, Paris, we don't have that much events. It's the same events on and on every year.. so except a few other events I think that there could be more things going on in our town. For young people like us, except in summer when there's festivals going on we don't realy know what to do... But anyway I am glad to live in this city!

The setting is really beautiful with this azure beach, these typical architecture, these many avenues and places ...
Nice is also a great cultural city with its many museums with different themes. The typical dishes of Nice have also made his celebrity!
The cinema also settled on the city of the Cote d'Azur with one of the most famous films in France: Brice de Nice
One of the big advantages of Nice is the climate: always sunny!

  22. Hello,

Nice is a great city, I absolutely love it. There are so many things I like about Nice.
For example, the food. Food in France is excellent especially in the south of France. I love all the different types of fish, the fresh fruit and vegetables...
Obviously Nice is a very attractive city which is why there are so many tourists! The mediterranean sea, the good weather and the dynamism make Nice very pleasing.

I am very thankful to be able to call this city my home.

  23. Hello everyone!

Nice is a great and very attractive city which is known for many things, especially it beautiful landscape.

Personally, I love our city because we can find many places to stay if we have time to spend like 'La Place Masséna' or the huge park 'La Coulée Verte' where there are different playgrounds and fountains too! We can aslo find eveything we want, here they are! Shops, restaurants, parks, historic architectures (like 'La Colline du Château' for example) etc.

Then, I love Nice because there're many restaurants of different cultures. For example, 'La Villa D'Este' which is an Italian restaurant etc. The thing that I love to do is that, after that I ate at the restaurant, I'll walk along 'La Promenade des Anglais' to take a breathe and see airplanes coming and going from any countries or cities in the world.

Finally, I really like our city because there's a lot of beautiful open landscapes where we can take a breathe sometimes, even if we're in the center, we don't feel like. I love Nice, my city.
