  1. Hello, everybody.
Actually, in the book written by Robert Louis Stevenson, the central figure, doctor Henry Jekyll is transformed in a malefic character who is mister Hyde.
It seems to me very strange and I don't think that we could attend this kind of thing in the real life.
For my part, I would not like to experience this because I do not see the utility to be transformed in another person and especially, as doctor Jekyll, lose control of oneself.
Certainly it is about an extraordinary experience, however it does not really interest me.

  2. Hello everybody !!!

First of all, Dr Jekyll and Dr Hyde is a science-fiction book so a lot of things can happen there but that couldn’t happenned in reality. As for me, even if I think that in science lots of things are possible, this question stay a bit ambigous. Indeed, it might be possible to change someone physical apperance, which had already been created with plastic surgery. However, this example is not as equal as a transformation because, as we can see it in Stevenson’s book, Dr. Jekyll had to drink a potion to become Mr. Hyde and vice versa. Moreover, I don’t know if scientists already tried to do this but it might be a difficult task. On the other hand, if we weight the pros and the cons, we are all the same in the XXIrst century,so since the XIXth century, when the story was published, science has evolved in a good way and is now able to discover more and more things. So, to my point I think it is possible to change someone’s behaviours by the use of powders and liquids. However, I’m more reluctant to the change of someone’s caracter or thoughts because it might cause lots of restrictions. Furthermore, as I see it, some people like schizophrenic ones, who have two sides to their personnality, take some drugs to have a stable behaviour so, in that point the caracter changes by taking chemical products. In addition, if they didn’t take those drugs they still stay in their usual habits.
All those techniques are not completly right and sure yet, or even created, but I think that if I had the oportunity to try it, I wouldn’t because I won’t be able to risk my life only to separate the two sides of my personnality for the moment. I would be scared to change and not to return like I was before. Indeed, even if I’m quite curious to see what it is, I won’t agree if someone ask me to do it myself.
So, to put it all in a nutshell , in the XXIrst century, all can be possible with science even if changing oneself by another person is quite risky and dangerous.

  3. Hi everybody !
To begin with , this book is a fiction so its aim isn't to tell a true story . Besides , i don't think we can change our appearance , even if we work a lot on it . Nevertheless , scientists are working everyday to make science better and perhaps , they could find a way of turning this dream to reality . Moreover , I share Claire's point of view because changing our appearance in now possible with plastic surgery . Indeed , we can change our body , but not our voice and other things that change in Stevenson's book .
However , if I could change my appearance , I guess I would try it because it's an experience that cannot be repeated . Of course I should think about the effects on my body , but as for me , I could just try one time and never again .
I would love being an other person , such as a famous person for a day because it could be funny .On the other hand , if we weight the pros and cons , I'm scared because if I try to drink the drug , maybe I wouldn't go back to me and I would like to take more and more drugs , which is obviously awful ( because of what happened to Jekyll at the end ) .
All in all , changing myself could be dangerous but I would try it because I'm very curious . 148 words .

  4. Hi everyone,
In the famous book written by Robert Louis Stevenson, Dr Jekyll indeed changed himself into Mr Hyde. He can't bare having two opposite sides of his personality yet he is ashamed of it.
However, I am far from convinced that it is not a shame to have different thoughts that are not always coherent.
From a scientific point of view, it is fully impossible to switch our appearance whenever we want.Besides, I don't believe that people expect those kind of scientific progress yet there are many other topics pretty much more interesting to deal with.
To sum up, I think that this fantasy is limited to the narrative fiction. Nevertheless, it could as Claire said "be possible" nowadays but to my mind, it is completely useless. If some people don't feel at ease, there are other ways to learn how to enjoy life. (149 words)

  5. Hello everybody, like Claire said, nowadays we can change our appearence with plastic surgery, but it is irreversible, and sometimes a mistake that people regret. Moreover, to my mind, it seems impossible to change our personality and feelings, but maybe the scientifics progress will make me believe the opposite !
However, in the book, doctor Jekyll changes his appearence and becomes the evil mister Hyde whenever he wants. Even if it was fun and crazy at the beginning, we understand that he becomes Hyde because he doesn't feel comfortable in his own skin. So, in my opinion, we want to be someone else when we don't really like who we are, the way we live and we can't make our dream a reality.
To put all in a nutshell, although it would be an extraordinary experience, I wouldn't change my appearence and my behavior.

  6. Hi everybody !

In the first place, I think that changing his body and his behavious like Jekyll did is impossible. Nevertheless, plastic surgery can improve (or not!) your appearance.
As far as I'm concerned, if I could try this experiment, I would do it ! Indeed, it could be interesting, from a sociological point of view, to change men into women and women into men for instance ! People could learn how live a woman or a man and what they feel.
However, this experiment can be dangerous. Indeed, if everybody could change his appearance with another person, some people could use unwisely this scientific progress. For instance, they could do harm and say that they are not guilty, and policemen could not arrest them because they would have changed their appearance.
I'd like to point out that changing your appearance is quite dangerous because, as Jekyll did, you can easily lose your personality and your awarness.
In a nutshell, before trying this unusual experiment, you have to weight the pros and cons, to make sure you know all the consequences of your act.
One should not forget that "science without conscience is but the ruin of the Soul". Rabelais.

  7. First of all, you can of course change your apparence thanks to plastic surgery, sport or alimentaion. Unfortunately, it will never be as fast as drinking a potion.
Behavior changes are real! We all have different moods, and I am personally quite lunatic. Everybody has "good" and "bad" days... Unfortunately, on a much darker scale, drugs give the user dangerous mood swings. I do not think it is possible as it is described in the book.

To be completly honest, I do feel like there two personnalities living in my body. Like doctor jekyll, I have troubles staying serious sometimes and separating two sides of me could help. But I would not try it because there is no going back and I fear my "mr Hyde" would become too powerfull.
To put it all in a nutshell, it would be a great temptation but I hope I would resist and stay the way I am.

  8. Hello !

To begin with, the Book " Dr jekyll and Mr Hyde " was written by Stevenson in 1991 and it is a fantasy and Horror story who is very interesting.

Like everybody said, nowadays it is impossible to change our appearance and our behaviour with a potion and I don't think that one day scientist will discover this strange things.
As for me, of course I would try it just one day to do everything I want ( maybe become a person who is famous all over the World or a person whose job is very different from my job, indeed it can be very cool ) but if I abused I could have lots of problems like Mr Hyde.

To sum up like Marie said I don't believe that people expect those kind of scientific progress yet because it can be too dangerous.

  9. To start with, I think science has allowed a lot of things however like everything there are limits. Indeed, in my opinion I do not believe changing one's appearance is possible. Obviously, like Claire said, you can choose to alter your appearance with plastic surgery but this is a permanent decision, you can't go back unlike in the book where Dr Jekyll has a potion that he can drink when he wants to be Mr Hyde. Also, if it was possible, I would be against it because, consequently, people would stop being themselves as they will always be able to change what they don't like about themselves instead of trying to be a better person or accepting it.
But, If I could change my appearance or even be a completely different person I would definitely try, although I would only want to be somebody else just for a couple of days because I wouldn't want to forget how to “be me” and transform permanently into another person.

  10. hello!
In this book which is a pure fiction it's very easy for Doctor Jekyll to change appearance and character ... in reality, both are very difficult: but for me it is easier to change some tricks of its appearance thanks to the progress of the science (restorative or aesthetic surgery), hair coloring, radical change of look ... however the appearance of Jekyll is totally modified, which seems impossible in real life. As for the personnality, it seems already very difficult to improve a defect, so how do you want to become its opposite?
I think that as Lena said, it would be funny to become a famous person for a limited time to be more powerful and to experience celebrity once in a lifetime. But I know I could never have done like Jekyll because I would be too afraid of the negative effects of drugs and my future addiction, I would never try using a strange potion on me without test...

  11. Hi everybody,
To start with, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde book belongs to the science fiction litterature. So, changing into an other person can't be real. As a matter of fact, thanks to plastic surgery you can change your physical appearence but, as I know you can't change your character in the way it happens in the book. Though, in some mental diseases there can be several characters in the same person.
To my mind I wouldn't like to change in another person because if, like in the book, the person in which I change becomes most powerful than me, I couldn't bear to lose control of myself. Moreover, I think it might be dangerous to do so and I wouldn't like to put my life in danger by taking drugs to separate the two sides of my personnality.
Besides, I would be scared not to be able to come back to myself.
To conclude, in my opinion it is useless to change ones appearence and behaviour. If you don't feel at ease with yourself, there are plenty other solutions to feel better. (159 words)

  12. Hi everyone,
To begin with ,my imagination can authorize me to think that a change of the appearence and the behavior could exist. And if I have the opportunity to make this experience , I could try it. Because sometimes it isn't easy to be yourself so it could be very tempting to be another person only to think at something else for a moment .
Nevertheless, Like Emilie said , and I think it's the only defect of this experience, it would be scared not to be able to come back to yourself and that's why I can't totaly aggree to experiment it .
Concerning the change of the behavior , it's useless I think that our behavior or personality make us who we are so if we change this part of us , we could transform us in something hateful like Mr Hyde in the book.
To conclude ,on one hand , I fully aggree to make this experience and try something new and on the other hand , I'm very mystified about the consequences.. (170 words)

  14. Hello everyone,
Actually, I don't think it's completely impossible to change one's appearance and behavior through science. Progress never ceases to happen. But the point of the novel is that scientists should know their limits and not do harmful experiments. It's a matter of bioethics. Moreover, I don't think taking drugs to change my attitude or my physique would be beneficial and I don't even want to. Also it sounds really illegal and dangerous. However, I have to say it could be helpful for people who have severe mental health issues, if it used carefully. Those people indeed could live easier life if they gained some sort of control over their condition. In any cases, it's a dangerous idea.
That's why I wouldn't try Dr Jekyll's potion. Furthermore, this man killed himself at the end of the book.

  16. hi everybody,
In the science fiction story written by Robert Louis Stevenson, the main character doctor Jekyll can change his apparence. In my opinion it is impossible.
However, if it was possible I would try of course. It would be a good and excited experience. I would be free to do everything I wanted, and nobody could blame me for it. Morever, I would like to change into a men just for a day to know how it feels, into a very rich person, or into a person famous all aroud the world. It could also be interesting to change into a person whose job is very different from mine (if I had a job) and to try different jobs to know what I really like and discover new things.
But, like some people said it would be dangerous because people could change into someone else when they want and do bad things and nobody could blame them for it.
To conculde, it could be a good experience, but we have to always remember who we are.

  17. Hi! I indeed read this book which I find really very interesting! But, I don't think that is really possible to change his appearance and its behavior to tell the truth... and if I have there the opportunity, I wouldn't even think of it one second! I think that it's necessary to accept such as we have and not as the others want that we are. There is a proverb which says " to hunt the nature it comes back at full speed ": we may want to change, we are as we are and we cannot do anything about it. It is thus necessary to accept as such.

Next we can't change our personality and be a very different kind of person without feel guilty to my mind. This book has been written long time ago but it ask questions actual because for example, How far can go science without distroy the moral. Sometimes it's would be nice to be someoone else, for live an other life but I don't think if I could I would try it because like in "dr Jekyll and mr Hyde" it's very dangereous and ended very bad. Your second personality can take power and rules your life even try to kill you.
