US presidential elections

As you know, if you listen to the news, Donald Trump won the US presidential elections.

  • What do you think of this result? How do you feel?

  1. When I heard that Donald Trump had won the US presidential election, I was quite surprise. The reason why I was very surprise as follows. Throughout his campaign, Donald Trump had scandals concerning comments he made, particularly on women. After all these scandals, so it was logical that Hillary Clinton is elected. Indeed, Hillary Clinton was supported by many people, including celebrities but also by the former President of the United States, Barack Obama. I think this change is going to doubt upset the United States, in what sense, I don't know. We'll see what happens, if Donald Trump is going to change a lot or not. I was really quite surprise by this final result.
Like what, anything can happen, even at the last moment.

  2. Hi everyone,
We never stop talking about that since this morning and I must admit that I am a bit annoyed because everybody dramatize this election.
First of all, one should not forget that Trump has been elected by Americans and as far as I know, I don't think that we are Americans.
That's why, I can't understand why some people take it to heart like if they were directly affected even though Trump's social behavior is completely aberrant.
What I mean is that Trump will not revolutionize the world for the simple reason that he doesn't rule the country only by himself.
Nevertheless, the question which could be interesting to wonder is, why Americans voted for him ?. To my mind, some people do not vote for him especially but vote rather against Clinton and all she embodies. Indeed, she belongs to a rich family that is known for political corruption and I think that if she had been elected, she would have been dangerous for the United States and for the world economy.
By the way, the Tokyo stock exchange decreased of nearly 5 % this morning in reaction of Trump election. To be honest, that decline doesn't worry me because in few days, it will go back to a normal point.

To sum up, I am not saying that Trump is going to be a good president but I believe that Clinton was worse than him. This American election was exposed to a huge media coverage and is still in the center of all the preoccupation..
To finish, I would like you to become aware that we can't trust what is said on TV or on the social networks.
Create your own opinion instead of following the common one.

  3. I see eye to eye with Marie in her talk. everybody is dramatizing the situation but Trump has been elected by more than 50 % of Americans, so a little bit more than half of the country is "happy" (if we can say that) of the result.
Like Trump, in 1933, Hitler has been elected legally and democratically by his country whereas they knew his programm. You know what happened next. Let's just hope Trump won't lead America to such a big deal.

    1. And Godwin's Law is proven right once more.
Then again, I thought there was no way he'd be elected, and now here he is, so I guess I shouldn't be so sure that he wouldn't pull something of that caliber off.
Still though, to see that the Hitler comparison, albeit justified, happenned so early in the conversation, amuses me quite a bit.

  4. Hello everyone!
So Donald Trump was elected president yesterday ...
I am very surprised and disappointed with this choice: everyone,on social networks for example, was laughing at him and his program a year ago ...
All the polls were wrong, and all the stars, as Katy Perry, Jaz-y and Beyonce, or the most important Barack Obama have supported Hillary Clinton...
As for me, I don't like any of the candidates: Clinton too vicious and too interested by money, and Trump ... too much scandals about women discrimination, mexicans, Muslims. But it's just sad to see this man at the White House instead of Obama!
I think the only reason Americans voted Trump is that they are terrified by the attacks (in France, Belgium, Germany..) and the security of their country: Trump is scarier than Hillary!
I'm really afraid for some of these decisions: the prohibition of abortion for example, or the wall against Mexicans...
Fortunately, it is impossible for him to permanently ban the Muslims, because it is prohibited by the American laws and Government!
Some people think it will create the Third World War, but this is too exaggerated because tyrans like Putin or Bashar el-Assad in Syria are presidents and they aren't the cause of all our problems...
To finish, I think manifestations against Trump are ridiculous because they should all vote for Hillary: it's too late to regret but I hope Trump can be change and calm down.

  5. Like many people I thought it was a joke but after seeing the results on Internet I knew that it was serious and I began to imagine what could happen. I tried to put things into perspective and to look for the things that could be great in his program. First of all he is going to make big changes in order to reduce the unemployment and he is really motivated. Then he may settle the relations between the USA and Russia. However, and I agree with most of the people, he may make bad decisions and take measures that will terribly affect the country. To cancel the agreements that were signed to protect the government is a really big mistake which shows he doesn't care about the living conditions of the future generations. The foreigners deportation won't be beneficial too. To conclude, to my mind he was elected because he promised changes and was an unusual candidate. Some Americans might have think he was the one who would "make America great again" and that's why they voted for him. From my point of view he may not have the possibility to take all the measures he promised because some of them are impractical like the wall that would separate Mexico and the USA and he will only have words that will be bad for the diplomacy.

  6. I am very disappointed that Donald Trump is the president of the United States, it is a sexist, misogynous, homophobic, racist, islamophobic man.. It is a very bad thing for the American population who wish the gathering and the solidarity. Donald Trump is a man who divides the populations and is going only to raise problems in the whole world.

  7. I was very surprised when I saw on twitter at 6am the words"Trum's Victory".I felt quite lost,I really thought Hillary would've won even though I don't appreciate her that much,in my opinion she is nonetheless a better choice because of her political experience.I think Trump doesn't realise that he is in charge of a whole country and he seems to take this election more as a game.During his campaign,he made a racist, homophobic and mysogynistic speech which is alerting for someone who occupies the function of president and it shows how narrow minded and absurd he is.Against all expectations, lots of latinos, black americans and women have voted for him.Plus I saw a video where Trump was beating the adverse catch coach in a catch contest in 2007,it is shocking to see such an attitude! Moreover he announced political reforms such as cancelling the Cop21 agreement and the Obamacare which are essentials to future.

  8. First of all, When I learnt that Donald Trump was elected, wednesday, I was shoked and so surprised as I never thought he could be the 45th president of the United States. In France, I think that the general opinion was in favor of Hillary Clinton and mostly against D. Trump. In fact, he is a real estate business man but had never been a politician and above all his ideas are ultra conservative, often intolerant... for exemple about emigrants, mondialisation, abortion, women in general.. But a lot of American people estimate that the politics belong to the elite, establishment and that's why they don't understand their every day life 's preoccupations. Sometimes, they even think that they are corrupted. May be Donald Trump could represent someone new who will be able to manage the country like his own fortune !!.. But, however, I feel worried given that I wonder how will be the international relationships between the US and all of the big countries and especially the France and also because of the next french election ! The similitudes with the National Front are obvious and the country is very divised. So I hope that french people will make the good choice !

  9. When I heard that Donald Trump won the US presidencial election I was very surprised and I thinking it was a joke but it's not! Because I believe it was Hillary Clinton. At this time I feel uneasy even if I'm french because the Americans voted for a racist and sexiste person but we cannot change the choice of them. But maybe Donald Trump will be a good President we don't know what's can he do.

  10. The night of the election I stayed up to see the results in live! At first Hilary Clinton was winning but after a few hours Donald Trump started winning swing states wich got him ahead of Hilary Clinton. I was getting realy nervous even though I don't live in the USA because America has a big influence on the hole world! For example immediatly after Donald Trump was ahead in the votes, the global market went down! Stocks were plunging! After a few hours everything went back to normal but it is just to say that it shows how much of an influence can have the American election on global economy. Also I was very disapointed that people could vote for such a horrible person! He is Islamophobic, Homophobic, Sexist, Racist and Misogynist and god knows what else! He can only divide American people! So I was shocked that people could vote for him! So many women, and hispanic people, against who he had a serious problem, saying that Mexicans crosing the border were all rapist, drug dealers and who knows what else, voted for him! On the other hand I can sort of understand why people didn't vote for Hilary Clinton. I mean she is corruped, she's just like all the other politics, there have been speculations about her not being in shape to be President of the United States of America, specially after she fainted in public during a meeting. Donald Trump used this a lot during his campaign saying that she wasn't fit enough and all sorts of things. There have also been a few scandals specialy the "emails scandal" where a lot of Americans were thinking that she would be dangerous as a president for the global security of their country because she sent from an non-securised email account lots of emails that were secret defense files wich could've been dangerous for American security defense! And I understand these people! But I think that Donald Trump is as dangerous as Hilary Clinton or even more! So basically I think people wanted someone "new" that wasn't a "normal" candidate and that's it.. I have to say though that I have listened to a few statements that Donald Trump has said and we can clearly say that there has been a big change in the tone of his speeches even if I don't believe a word he is saying. And I also noticed that he is not as enthusiastic as before the election where he was always screaming and criticizing everyone who was against him, now he is way more calm than before, he congratulates all the people that weren't on his side especially Hilary Clinton even though during the campaign he said he would put her to jail if he became president, anyway I think he didn't expect to win the elections and I think that when he started running for the presidentials he wasn't thinking that he would get that far! So he is probably a bit under shock and he is trying to smoothen his image!

  11. Hello !

First of all when I heard that Donald Trump won the US presidential elections I was surprised and I thought that it was unreal because few days later every polls said that Hillary Clinton will be the next president, but it wasn’t the case.

To begin with I know that Hillary Clinton is not very honest and is not the best politician but Donald Trump is worse than this woman. Effectively I don’t think that the Trump’s program is very judicious indeed he want :
    - killed the terrorist ( no problem ) AND killed the family too.
    - prohibited to all muslim to come in USA
    - build a wall to separate USA to Mexico
    - expulsed the 11 millions immigrants
    - prohibited womens to abort
    - allowed all the weapons
    - developed the coal
    - cancelled the signature of the COP 21
    - low all taxes ( it is the only good idea )

I know that the media exaggerate a lot but to my mind it is not the best way to make USA better. However I disagree with Marie when she said that this election is not our business because we are not americans but America is the most powerful country in the world and if America have problems there will have consequences on lots of country in the world.

To finish with this example we can say that in USA anything can happen and I hope that this election will not influenced French people to vote for Marine LePen.

I admit that Hillary Clinton wouldn't be a good president, but Trump is worse.
Donald Trump is racist, misogynous and sexist and since he was elected, many racist acts happened.
I totaly agree with Clara, Trump's program is absurd and I was shocked to see that more than 50% of Americans adhere to this program.
Morever, I disagree with Marie. Admittedly we are not Americans, but we are totaly concerned. Indeed, the US, as the world's leading power, influence the whole world.
So this election affect our country too and as Clara said, I hope it will not have an influence on the French's elections.

  13. Hi,
I first wanted to start out by saying that I really agree with Marie Moroni, she is 80% right (to me)
I find that french do make this into a huge deal, but don't we already have enough problems of our own? I mean french people take this to heart but they should start worrying about their gouvernement and their economic problems because they are far from being fixed.
You also have to realize (like Marie said) that he won, that means that he actually got more votes than Clinton (and the other candidats), so a lot of Americans prefered or just wanted to have him instead of her. They aren't good, both of them are wrong in some way, both of them have their sides to this "story", he's a clown, we barely take tim seriously when he gives his ridiculous opinion on international TV, but she's known to be a liar, she would've created huge (economic and) war problems with Russia, which could've (in the worst of cases) lead to a Third World War, and then the french could start to worry.

But also, (again like said Marie ;) ), stop only listening to social medias, or stop repeting what you hear at home, if you want to create your own opinion, look it up on the net, listen to the different interviews between the two main candidats and read newspapers and then you could create and give your own personal opinion.

(Oh and I repeat again, I'm not for any of the candidats, I think that they both would've been a mistake for this country that has such a big impact ont the world)

  14. Hi,
About this election, I first wanted to start out by saying that I totally agree with Marie and Anne-Rose.
First of all, a lot of people support Clinton without knowing who she is and her program. There are so many people who follow media's point of vue (vagueness in the most of case) instead of creating their own, and therefore talk without knowing..
The Clinton's foundation is suspected to have been enriched by corruption and misappropriation of funds. She said that she will be against Russia and with China, this is foolish : be against Russia will not improve things, on the contrary it will make them worse. And be with China will most probably lead to even a further decline of the US economy.
About Trump's program, first he will not lead to a Third World War, he is against war and prefers to be far from it. Moreover he wants to lower all taxes and create maternity leave. I know that he said a lot of bad things but most of them are unthinkable and he probably said it to become known.
To finish, I'm not saying that Trump will be a good president but he might no be worse than Clinton ...

  15. Hello,
I'd like to express my mind about Trump's election because I have been astonished by this event.
There is no doubt that Trump is a very strange person. He comes from a wealthy family and he has had three wifes (he is still married to the third one). He begun his life with working in real estate, and continued it with reality shows. That doesn't sound great. Now, he is the president of the greatest military power of the whole world. That sounds creepy to me that such a man controls so much military forces. Furthermore he has a very strange and freaky political plateform. He wants to build a wall between Mexico and the US, give up the 'Obamacare', nominate judges at the Supreme Court who are having his political opinion, expulse all illegal immigrants, allow everybody to buy weapons, he also hates the concept of abortion... I'd like to say many other things about his political opinion, but it would take too long to write it.
Knowing this we can ask ourselves how he could be the US president. The answer is very complicated, so I'll just speak about one aspect of it: his communication. He gave many speeches in which he had no cue cards. He was counting on his spontaneity and his 'speaking talents'. He also shared his mind about sensitive topics on a very vociferous way. The people liked him for this. The people who voted for him wanted maybe not Hillary as a president, maybe because she is a woman, or because she doesn't have the same political ideas as them.
So, now Donald Trump is the 45th US president and we can't do anything against it. We may just hope that he won't be re-elected next time. The Congress is also here to 'look after him'. Indeed Donald Trump cannot make any law or reform without the Congressional approval. We may hope that it would be enough to limit the limite the damage that Trump could cause to the US, or to the world.
As it seemed in this article I have been quite shocked about when happened. It scared me a little too. I hope also that he wouldn't keep his bad promises. Especially the one about migrants and muslims. This one revolts me a lot.

  16. Hi,
I understand everybody's point of view and it is very interessting to see that opinions are so different about Donald Trump's election .I feel that some critics are also too excessive.
First, I would like to tell you something that you must not forget.. Every presidents who was elected weren't perfect in their ideas and every presidents had promised things that they didn't met. Also , I think that Donald Trump is look like every presidents . So people who say that he's the worst person for this job , are wrong and don't know what they talk about .
Trump , Hollande, Poutine, Merkel ... They just represent their country and they cannot forced people to do what they want . Because people rules the country.
To finish , like Marie said , the question that must be asked is "Why Americans people voted for him ? "

  17. Hi everyone,
First of all, we think that Trump is a crazy person because of his election promises. For example, he wants to build a wall between Mexico and USA and we think this is not a good idea. We also think Trump is very sexist.
We believe that Trump will not have good relationships with other countries.
To conclude,it was a big surprise that Trump was elected but we will see how he runs the country. We really hope that everything will be fine.

  19. Hello everybody !
Donald Trump was elected president on November the 8th . We have already talked about this election but let's express myself .

First of all , we all fell concerned about this election because the USA is the most powerful country in the world . Moreover, Donald Trump could threat the economy and the social life in America with his ideas . I strongly disagree with him because he is against women's rights , black people ... besides , he doesn't have any politic experience whereas Clinton is a politician for many years .
That's why , as far as I am concerned , he couldn't be elected ... but he was ! One should not forget that this election might disturb the whole world .
However , he won't be alone during his presidency . In fact , some advisers will be here .

Moreover , I share Marie's point of view because the real question is : why Americans voted for him ?
To my mind , that's because Hillary Clinton was hated . Besides , when there is an economic crisis , people think that's because of the government so , they don't vote for the same political party .

To sum up , I'm not glad about the election but I don't know what he will do yet . I hope that the same thing won't happens in France in 2017 .

  21. Hi everyone !
To begin with, I was very surprised to hear that Trump won the US election as the polls were giving Hillary Clinton the winner. I'm doubtful about his capacity to manage a country like the USA. As a matter of fact, during his campain, he showed a racist, homophobic and mysogynistic side of his personnality.
Though, I thought about it and realised that, beeing a business man, he could adopt valuable mesures for the USA, such as big changes in order to reduce unemployement. In fact, being elected, he changed his behaviour : he appears to be more moderated and not as extreme as he was during his campaign. So, according to me, we could be surprised in a positive way about his role.
To conclude, as,far as I'm concerned, even if everybody feel concerned about US situation, it's useless to overreact because it's American's opinion, over fifty percent have voted in favour of him, including black people and women.

I'm not very intersed in the politics , and to be honest I don't understand many things in the politics ! so i can't judge his program , but he said so many things which are not acceptable and which are sexist, homophobic , racist and of course it's terrible to have a president who thinks like that , but Hilary was not better but she was less brutal. I agree witch Emma when she said that Donald trump not have the possibility to make all that he said. Maybe he said all these thing for people voted for him , he knew what they wnated to hear and he will do nothing about what he said. time will tell ...

  23. In my opinion this election result is quite surprising. Indeed, I often looked at the polls, which always predicted Hillary Clinton to win. In some cases her lead over Trump was as much as eight percent! The reason for the discrepancy between the polls and the actual outcome of the election was probably due to the very aggressive way Trump ran his campaign and that many Americans did not dare to show their support for Trump, who was considered by many as racist, aggressive against women and intolerant. At the same time Americans wanted change, as they were fed up with all those politicians that are power-hungry and never keep their promises. They therefore voted for Trump, who openly criticised the system and the political establishment.

Personally I am quite worried for the next few years. Donald Trump has no political experience and although he is considered rich, he already had filed two bankruptcies. Even if he rebuilt his fortune a few times, this is not something very encouraging for the future. Furthermore, he is known for his racist attitude and has failed to distance himself from the leader of the Ku Klux Klan, an organisation that considers the white race as superior to other ethnic groups. He also told several times that he wanted to build a wall to Mexico, expel migrant without a visa and prevent muslims from entering the country. This is another reason for which I don’t understand how Trump was elected. In fact, when looking at the election results Clinton received almost 2 million more votes than Trump and should therefore have been the president. However, the American system is different and the president is elected based on an electoral college, which explains Trump’s success.

Since America has chosen Trump, we can’t contest their choice, but it will have an impact on Europe. He has already mentioned that he will put American interests first, cancel some trading deals and may even change treaties regarding the environment. But who knows, maybe he will prove us all wrong and will be a wonderful president. We can always dream….

  24. We have three different opinions about the elections of Donald Trump.
The first opinion is that his election is good for Americans because he will revive the economy of the country and he will reduce unemployemment.
The second opinion is that his election is bad for the future of USA because his ideas are not good. Since he wants to build borders, foreigners cannot enter into the USA.
And the third opinion is that Trump's election is not the concern of the French because the French too have elections and it's more important for us than the American elections.

  26. Hi there!

Two weeks ago, Donald Trump was elected to the Presidence of the United States of America. What a surprise!
All the pools had predicted Hillary Clinton's victory. Nobody could believe that such a result could occur.
During his campaign, Donald Trump has been accused of sexual harrassments, and racism.
I listened to some of his speeches and I found them really shocking..
Perhaps the most shocking thing is that he's following Barack Obama, whose election was an incredible progress for the United States of America and the story of this country.
I felt really concerned by these elections and I didn't expect this result.
In fact, the United States of America have a great influence on the rest of the world and that's why it took a big place in the media all over the world.
Last but not least, Donald Trump is an imposant character, says everything he wants, he doesn't care what people think about him and I hope the American people won't take their president as an example.
Of course, we all have to accept this result because it's democracy. However, maybe Donald Trump won't do everything he promised to do during his campaign. I really hope he'll be a good President, and the USA's situation will be better thanks to him.

  27. I think that having Donald Trump as president is the worst nightmare a citizen can have in his country. Donald Trump is a vulgar, brute, racist and macho man. We do not need this kind of person enough vanity of his wealth. Why do I say that ? We can see the sadness and despair of most Americans for several causes, how many years are we struggling to erase racism? Because of people like Trump, I think there will be more problems currently.

Building a wall between Mexico and the United States will not at all regulate the rapes, drug trafficking and crimes because everywhere in the world there will always be fanatics like what is happening at the moment with the djhadists. Trump is an unconscious person of what he does, he knows nothing about politics, but he only thinks of what will be better for him. He manipulates people because of money.

We suspected Trump that launched in 2004 a management school where he would have scammed thousands of people by promising them to buy very expensive courses to learn how to become a billionaire. A class-action was opened in California. The students would have eventually spent huge sums for a few waves seminars, get a diploma signed by Donald Trump and a souvenir photo, It's a scandalous and unacceptable action.

Just with those few details like that; It seems that Trump does not care about the real problems he does, and that his words and deeds do not go together.

When I heard that Donald Trump had won the US presidential election, I was quite surprise and I must admit that I am a bit annoyed because everybody dramatize this election. Donald Trump had scandals concerning comments he made, particularly on women a lot of person hate him but one should not forget that Trump has been elected by Americans and as far as I know, I don't think that we are Americans even if he could do something bad to France. After all these scandals, so it was logical that Hillary Clinton is elected. Indeed, Hillary Clinton was supported by many people, including celebrities but also by the former President of the United States, Barack Obama but i think that she was so confident that she didn’t take this very seriously. Sadly, we know that Trump has no skill concerning the presidential election so Donald Trump not gonna change a lot his country.
