The privileges of the former presidents of the French Republic

Yesterday, the President of the Republic, François Hollande, established a degression of resources granted to former presidents of the Republic, with a reduced number of employees beyond the fifth year following their departure from the Elysee.
Before the reform, a former president was receiving an annual grant of 65.000 euros, but also enjoyed a service apartment, a car with driver, was entitled to seven employees, two personal home and train tickets and free aircraft.

What do you think of the reform that made François Hollande?
Do you agree

  1. The reform of François Hollande is in my opinion a good idea.
I think the former présidents of the Republic had too many privileges. Certainly they were president, yet their privilèges were quite exaggerated. The moment one is president should become "a person much like the others". A former president may have some privilèges, because its role was important, but not about to have these privilèges. In addition, this will allow there to be more money for the country. So I agree with this reform.

  2. As far as I am concerned, François Hollande is right to decrease presidents' advantages because one should not forget that these political persons are paid with our taxes.
There is clear evidence that we are not aware of what these people do with the State's money and I think it's better to do not know.
However, I am convinced that there are other things pretty much more important to deal with such as the security of the country.
In a nutshell, this decision seems to be useless contrary to other crucial issue.

  3. In my humble opinion, François Hollande made a good decision and it was quite generous of him to decrease his own avantages. I shows that he is ready to sacrifice his status after he leaves the job. When someone ruled a country for five years it is reasonnable to think that he can afford what he needs. One country should not provide unlimited transport ticket to anyone...
But I do not completely agree with Marie. Although I think security is a crucial matter in France, Economy is essential or we will not be able to afford new security reforms.
It's a small gest but better that Nothing

  4. I think that be president is a big and hard responsability especially in these times because he is more and more subjected to the criticisms (not without reson). It is therefore a very stressfull job. Moreover, a president has no private life during his mandate because of medias. He must to be a perfect exemple of French people in his country but also in other countries. So that can explain why his salary is so high, even if I agree with Esther: it's too high. To my mind are the trasport means and men for the security necessary for his protection and are a part of the Job. However it's funny to see that he changes that rule at the End of his mandate because he uses all these privilèges during 5 years and this rule will concern other president only.

  5. Hello everybody !
As far as I am concerned , the president is right . Indeed , the resources which were received by former presidents are too expensive for the country . Moreover , one should not forget that these presidents are still in politic after their departure ( most of them ) so they could earn enough money . Besides , presidents receive their whole life french's money and this is bad for our economy . That's why the reform is a good idea , and this shows that Francois Hollande is honest because he is trying to reduce his future resource .
Eventually , I would like to see this reform adopted .

  6. Hi everyone !
In my opinion, the reform of Francois Hollande is a good one. As a matter of fact, a president souhld have privileges because his role is really important and it's a very stressful job. Though our country can't afford it, our economy is very low and the president should be a person whose life is approximately simillar to everybody's life. Such as the german chancellor who has a "normal" life, for example : she drives and cooks.
To conclude, this decison will provide more money for the country that can be very useful.

  7. Hi!
I really think this is one of the best decisions of his campaign!
While it may seem logical to us, it's very humble of him and very fair to reduce its future benefits, and up to now no president has been able to take his decision!
Too many things in its benefits seem unnecessary, especially for former presidents:
it's just ridiculous because, for me, even if they were a good or bad president, they are normal people and France needs this money in times of economic and terrorist crisis!
I hope he will continue until 2017 to take these kinds of smart decisions and that the future president also...

  8. First of all, I think this reform is a great decision.
I agree that the job of our president is a stressful job, but it is not a reason to have so much privileges. Francois Hollande has too many privileges and this is not necessary.
Morever, the political persons are paid with our money and it is bad for the economy of France.
That's why I think he took a good decision.

  9. To begin with, presidents are elected to govern our country for 5 years, which are often their more important years of their life.
Yes, our parents pay too much taxes, always. And as many says, our taxes go directly to political persons.
However, they deserve this money, especially the president of french republic. This function is so stressfull and needs to take many decisions. The president is always responsible about what happens.

In my opinion, mr Hollande shouldn't make this reform : he really deserves his former payment because presidents are brave mens and needs a good payment.

  10. At first, with his reform, François Hollande won't reduce the "ex-presidents" salaries. He will just supress the materials benefits, like having a car, or the staff. To my mind, it is a good decision because they earn enough money so they don't need to have extra-things. But, I don't think this is a priority for our country, and François hollande has a lot of other reforms to make !

  11. Hello !

First of all, I would like to say "thank you" to the president because it is a very good reform indeed it can be easier to go back in a "normal life" for all president. However I think that a president must be allowed to have a body guard during all his life because it can be dangerous if he walk alone in the street.
And to finish, I totally agree with Eve when she said that it isn't a priority for our country, and Francois Hollande have lots of other reforms to create.

  12. As far as I'm concerned I'm find this reform not so bad I mean not everybody have the courage to decrease their own grant but it seems to me that it was not a priority with the lots of most important reforms, which are waiting to be adopt like in security or to fill the social security deficit.

  13. Hi everybody,
In my opinion the formers president have the right to have privileges because they were at the highest position in the government but not that much, I mean does they really need 65000 euros per year, free train and airplane ? Yes they served the country but for five years and yet they are treated like a president until death, in time of economic crisis everyone have to scrimp and save even the formers president, Francois Hollande had a good decision but there is more important to do right now.

  15. Hello everybody.
In my opinion, the head of State, François Hollande, takes a good decision with this reform which plans to reduce the ressources granted to the former presidents of the Republic.
It is, according to me, a very generous act from him, because you should not forget that the politicians are paid thanks to our taxes.
However, I think that there are other things much more important in our country which require debates and reforms.
Finally this reform is a good thing because it will provide more money for France.
