The uniforms to school

In some schools, it is compulsory to wear a uniform.
This is not the case of our school.
If we propose to wear a uniform in high school, would you be for or against? Why?

  1. I think people should have the chance to be individual when they wear clothes... It's like we're being forced to conform to something we don't want to do.Though that by wearing a certain uniform, the people who see you, they're going to identify you with the school, and have a stereotypical attitude about you. It's like people think about skinheads; they all dress the same if they want to belong to that group, and people immediately think they're all going to be hooligans, but it's not necessarily true. So I am against uniforms. MBARGA FELICITE.

    1. Hello everyone ! I think that wear an uniform is at the same time a good and a bad idea but I'll be against unfiorms. First, we need to be free and to have the choice to choose our clothes in the morning, even if sometimes it can be nice to have an uniform and to be prepared in 5 minutes. But choose our clothes, it means that we can be judge and that's why uniforms are cool because they put everybody in an equal status. In my opinion I prefer go to school without uniform because it's important to show our personality trough our style.

  2. On the one hand, uniforms are a way to fight against social discrimination at school.
But on the other hand, I don't think that it is effective because we have to change these behaviors in their core with a better education.
We don't have many way to express ourselves at school and fashion is one of them. We should be able to dress as we like as soon as it a clean, not religious and respectful.
To sum up, we have to keep our individuality, and imposing uniforms at school is not a good idea.

  3. To my mind uniforms in school can be a good thing as it can be bad.
First, I believe that everybody can express themselves by the way they are wearing clothe. And this personal expression thanks to clothe is really important for us, the teenagers, because we all need to exist in the society. So uniform is not the better choice in a school.
Then, uniforms erase all the class difference. In fact, with an uniform we can't say if a person is richer than another and so there is no more judgement because everybody wear the same things and so everybody is on the same step.

  5. I have mixed feelings about this question.
Firstly, as Coline perfectly said, wearing a uniform at school is a way to fight against social discrimination because clothes we wear often reveal the social class we belong to. Sometimes, some children are putting aside because they don't have the last clothes in vogue.
Therefore, for those reasons it could be a good idea to impose the uniform at school.
However, I am convinced that wearing whatever we want is a way of freedom and it is very important to be able to express ourselves. Indeed, although "the trend" makes people wearing the same kind of clothes, there are still some people who have their own original style.
I couldn't decide what is better because both sides of the question have pertinent aspects so, I would content myself saying that "clothes don't make the man"

  6. To begin with , uniforms are used only in some countries although it could be a great thing in France .

As for me , on one hand I would like to wear a uniform at school because I love wearing skirts and ties . Moreover , it could stop discriminations about the money parents earned each months ( social discrimination ) because we would be all dressed alike . However , on the other hand , everyday it would be the same clothes and we couldn't change . That's why , as far as I am concerned , that could be a bad idea because I love wearing new clothes .

Finally , I couldn't support one idea more than the other .

  8. According to a study published on the Internet, 48 % of the parents are favorable to the uniform and 44 % are against, the fathers are rather more favorable to it than the mothers. There is thus a majority of parents who think that the uniform is a good thing, however, 66% of the teenagers are against. Personally I think that we should let decide on the concerned people, despite of the balance between advantages and disadvantages. By example, uniform is a good process when it is about a school centered on a single center of activity, for example stewardess's school, however in the college or in the high school, it is the period in which we discover our personality, the personal clothing choice thus has an essential role during this period.

  9. As for me, we can find good and bad aspects!
At first, I feel totally against because fashion is a means of expression and above all a way of expressing our tastes and some of our personnality.
Especially for a girl, it's a way to stand out and it would be sad every morning to take the same outfit in her closet...
According to me,the uniforms are really beautiful in some countries, but i don't want to look like a sort of "clone".
    But seriously, I'm not selfish:
This could make people much happier, because they are dressed simply:and stupid people make some discrimination...
People who lack money or simply don't like fashion are sometimes put in the gap, it's very unfair!
Thanks to uniform, everyone would be equal compared to appearance...
but as for me people who have bad attitude always find something to be mean with others.

To conclude, I don't really like uniform but it's not a bad idea in the actual society: whether we can vote and after choose the model of our uniform!

  10. First of all, I think wearing uniforms could stop social discrimination at school.
Indeed, as marie said, the way we dress often reveal the social class we belong to. If we all wear a uniform, everybody would be equal.
Morever, I think fashion is not the only way to express ourselves and to show our personality. Indeed, nowadays a lot of people dress the same way because they follow fashion.

To conclude, I think wearing uniforms is one of the best solution to fight against discrimination at school.

  11. To introduce my arguementation, I would like to say that even in french's private school, the wear of the uniform is not applied.

Many students are against that because they would loose a part of their liberty. They have got a point there
But, the wearing of it would reduce discriminations like social discrimination. No matter who is rich, who is poor, we are in a public school and everybody are equal.

To conclude with, if our high school impose to wear a uniform, I would agree.

  12. Uniforms at school is a debat which divides people's opinions. As it was already said, it is a way to prevent the discrimination and the religious ostentation because it's important not to forget that in France schools are lay. The secularism is sensible subject nowadays and it could be a good way to avoid all sort of misunderstanding. I am not trying to say that I am against the liberty of expression because I love wearing what I want and it is true that school's uniforms reduce our liberty. If students made an effort to accept all the people whatever they are wearing then uniforms are not essential but if they did not then it could be a solution...

  13. Hi!
First of all, I think having school uniforms could be a good way to limit discriminations. If we are all dressed the same it is more difficult to put us in boxes.
However, for me what we wear helps us define who we are. We have colourful clothes if we like colour and cute clothes if we like cute things.
So I am not sure if it would be a bad or a good thing to have uniforms at schools.

  14. Actually , uniforms are symbols of neutrality at school and I perfectly understand Anais and Lena when they said that uniforms can social discrimination .
First of all , I like to say that people only judge with their eyes! And it is prooved in school.. Many children are humiliated because of what they wear .A person is often forced to live with people's opinion to survive in a society.
However , the uniforms can limit the differences between students ,unit them and it can also teach them not to judge only with their eyes but with their head .
To conclude , I would say that uniforms can be a good idea for the school and only for the school!

  15. First of all, like many other people, I think that uniforms at school can be a good idea, because it's a way to limit discrimination, between the rich and the poor for instance. With uniforms, all the children or young people are simply considered as equal "pupils" or "students. We can't really wear we we want, people often must wear fashionable clothes in order to be accepted by society.
However, with a uniform, the individual disappears into the crowd, no more personality, no more taste, only everyone.
To conclude, I would say that wearing a uniform can be a good idea, but also a bad one...

  16. Hello !

To begin with, like everybody said, wearing uniform could stop social discrimination at school. Moreover it could be easier the morning when you are indecisive. I heard an interesting things on the TV :
    - A journalist ask about this subject to Barack Obama and he answered : "You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits. I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing and finally wasting time."
To sum up, I know that wearing our clothes it is cool but I totally agree to wear uniform at school.

  17. Hi !
To start with, having lived in a country where every pupil has to wear a uniform, although I have never worn one myself, I can say that people who must wear a uniform for their school dislike it very much as they would prefer to wear what they want, like in France.
As for me, uniforms have good and bad points.
On one hand, having a uniform decreases bullying and social discrimination because at school you are always judged and teased based on what you wear. For example, you have to be trendy to fit in or just to feel normal but as soon as you you stop following the fashion (maybe because you can't afford to), or even if you have a certain style you are ejected. To my mind, uniforms promote equality. So that is why I think uniforms can be a good idea and why they are compulsory in most schools around the world.
On another hand, I think everyone should be able to express themselves with how they dress however uniforms no to allow that. A lot of students are against uniforms because they loose their individuality.
All in all, I would not like to wear a uniform to school because I would get bored of wearing the same outfit everyday. So if it was suggested to wear a uniform to high school, I would be totally against it.

  18. Hi everybody,
To begin with, my very first feeling would be in favor of wearing uniforms and the main reason is because it decreases social discriminations. As a matter of fact, each pupil is not equal in the way he's dressing himself. Some of them could be rejected and could then feel ill at ease, moreover they would probably have bad school results.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't like to wear a uniform, I'd rather choose my clothes every morning because it reveals a part of one's personality. In addition, to my mind, it is very important to feel free to dress as I want to.

  19. For us, uniforms should not be imposed on students because they are an obstacle to freedom. Uniforms prevent us from expressing our personnality and style: we look like a flock of sheep when we wear the same clothes. However, uniforms are a mark of equality and prevent discrimination. So there are negative and positive sides to uniforms.

    1. Hello everybody !!!

First and foremost, I have two different opinions about this topic. Indeed, we have to weight the pros and cons.
To begin with, to my mind, uniforms can be a good way to decrease social discrimination. Indeed, clothes usually defines the person’s social’s class. Nowadays, some schools required the uniform because it can limit prejudices and differances between students. Some people can be really attached to the physial apperance of the person in front of them and so, he will maybe make differences between the pupils in general. This behaviour can hurt the others and is, at this point, discriminating.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t like to wear a uniform because, as I see it, I won’t be free to wear what I want and so, maybe uncomfortable, following which kind of uniorm is imposed. Indeed, as for me, I like to be free to wear everyday, a different clothe and to have my own look. In my opinion, the way you dress yourself reveal your personnality. So, as everyone is unique, it is important to keep this single originality.

To put it all in a nutshell, those both feelings represent my point on uniforms but each school is free to impose what it wants about this topic.

  20. Hello everyone!

As far as I'm concerned I whould be against wear uniforms at school and I believe that many students will agree whit me. Indeed the way I see it wearing uniforms mean that everybody should have the same clothes whereas each one of us want to be different! I'm sure that no one of us want to have the same clothes as an other girl or boy on the high school. I mean the way you like to dresse show your personality . But if everyone wear the same thing we can't see what kind of person you are and what do you like or dislike. It is no use wearing uniforms to stop discrimination and bulling. There are many way to stop that and wearing uniforms it's not the right way to my mind.
However I heard about military schools where studens wear an uniform and I think it's a good way to have authority. But I can't help thinking that if it was me I would have hated bore it every day.
It is hard to tell how people would react if we have to wear uniforms at Calmette but personally i would be upset and disappointed about that.

  22. Hello everybody!
When I read this article I started thinking of how it could be to have to wear an uniform everyday for school and I do not actually know if it would be a good thing or not.
I first looked at the comments which were already under the article and lots of them sayed that the uniforms would bother us since we could not express our personnality anymore, some of them even mentionned a "flock of sheeps" effect. I do not think that the arguments which pretend that anything could even prevent us from expressing ourselves are good because we saw in the history tant an human who wants to express theirself can always do it. If we were wearing uniforms, we could express ourselves with our way to brushing our hair, our way to make up, the accessories we would wear with our uniforms... I do not think that the uniform would be a problem for my personnality.
I also read in some comments that the uniforms could prevent a lots of discriminations in the school. I totally agree with that and also think that we couldn't bother kids so easily with their parents' wealth or their "sense of fashion". The problem is that lots of discriminations like the ones based on religion, color of the skin or sexual orientation would not only disappear with uniforms. We would better invest in more education than in new clothes. I also think that an other discrimination (and not the least) could become stronger because of the uniforms: the sexism. Uniforms are often really gender-oriented and that makes gender stereotypes more important.
That's why after having think about it for awhile, I think that I would not like to have to wear an uniform at school. I would rather choose the stereotypes I lock myself in.

  23. Wearing a uniform at school is the subject of several debates.
In the first place, I think uniforms could be a solution to reduce the infairness between pupils. Indeed, in my opinion, uniforms make everybody equal.
Nevertheless, uniforms prevent pupils expressing their personality and pupils can loose their individualism. Furthermore, uniform does not prepare children to a life full of disparities. Indeed, as I said, uniform makes everybody equal at school. Consequently, children grow up with the idea that everybody is equal in life whereas it's the opposite.
To sum up, I agree and I disagree with the uniform because it has on one hand advantages, and on the other hand, many disavantages.
One should not forget that even if discrimination about social classes could disappear, discrimination about religion or origins would not be resolved.

In my opinion, uniforms can be a good and a bad thing as well. As many have already said, it can be a good thing for soocial discrimination between rich and poor children, which establishes a certain equality between students.I also think that the uniform can be a good thing only if it makes you want to wear it. That's also the reason why i think that it can be a bad thing. It's true that wear their own clothes is a way to express themselves but if we should start putting the uniform, we always could dress as we want during the weekend and the holidays. However, i don't think the uniform that could be imposed please me and dress every day in the same way could weary me.
To conclude, in my mind we should find another way to stop social discrimination.

First, I want to say I really love uniforms in other countries. English's uniforms are my favourites, there are so beautiful !

Also, I believe that the uniform can be a good progress against harassment. Everybody would be equal. I come from a school where a lot of people judge you by your clothes.

Somebody think that uniform means no personality but it's wrong. First, personality it's not only dress. Wear uniform not imply everybody the same but everybody equal. We can’t stand out just with our clothes. Maybe, if everyone has the same uniform, shy people will be less intimidated by others.
Afterwards, a uniform it’s just a cloth, you can use it by anyway and it can, as good as other clothes, show your personality.

Finally, I know that uniforms are linked at authority and I think it can gave a better pictures of French’s students because some students degrade our picture with wearing provocatives dresses.

This post talks about the uniform at school. On the past uniforms were obligatory but now they are not used by students of the lycée Calmette. Nowadays the uniform is wore in lot of countries like Italy or United-Kingdom but also in some french private schools. Moreover uniforms can be used to promote the school. As far as I am concerned I think it is a good idea to wore them because they can enable to establish a social neutrality between students whatever their social background, they will wear the same dress. Uniforms can also stop the mockery on the style of anybody. For me the uniform can be modern so why don't use it?

We should not have uniforms at all. Uniforms are not that comfortable. It is very simple. The uniform seems useless.Students should be allowed to express themselves.Uniforms do not allow students to express themselves by wearing the clothes that students decide. Also, people think that uniforms are better because students may come to school wearing inappropriate clothing, but that's how students express themselves.

  31. If they proposed to wear uniforms at school, I would totally be against it.
First of all, it stops people expressing their personnalities. Today, the way we dress is very important in our society because it tells to the other people who you are and what you like. It allows you to show you're different. With your clothes, you can choose how people will see you. I think that forcing people, and especially teenagers, to wear something that they didn't choose and that they don't particularly like can be very dangerous, and make them feel insecure and feel just bad about themselves. I can say for sure that I wouldn't bear wearing a uniform. To my mind, it is essential to let everyone be who they want to be, and by extension wear what they want to wear.
Secondly, I don't agree with the fact that uniforms can hide the social differences between pupils. Let's be honest, we all know perfectly well who is richer and who is poorer. Even if you wear a uniform, we can still see for example the jewels you're wearing, if you go to school by car, we can see what is your parents' car, and we still can see where you live, and therefore what is your social category. Moreover with social medias, which are everywhere at the time we're living, you can show to everyone what is your way of life.
Also, it might seem a little bit exagerated, but uniforms immediately make me think of totalitarian regimes.
So personnally, I simply don't see any positive aspect of wearing uniforms at school.

On one hand, I think that uniforms erases the difference between social classes. It made everyone being at the same level of wealth or fashion. The uniforms were there since the beginning of schools and there were no worries with them.
On the other hand, I think that wear the same clothes everyday is boring, you won't have that "oh, I like your shirt" from your friends that makes you feel fabulous all day and we, girls, love clothes so it will be really annoying.
To conclude, I'm not totally for the wearing of uniforms but I'm not strongly disagreeing with it.

  36. The wearing of uniform at school is a complex subject which, every year at the start of the school year, generates lots of debates. Certain people are for, because the uniform allows to reduce the social discriminations and the racket, while others are against it, declaring that the uniform deletes the differences and the personality of each by creating a unique style.
The uniform at school, which France abandoned in 1968 to promote personal freedoms, makes again speak about him in this year : in fact ( I did some research ), a poll published by the regional press indicates that 65 % of the French people pronounce now for its restoring in establishments.
As far as I'm concerned, I am for the wearing of uniform in high school. Rather, it would not disturb me if I am obliged me to wear it because, indeed, I think that uniform at school is a way of resolving the problems of integration.
I totally disagree with people who say they cannot express their personality with a compulsory and identical dress for everybody. If these people think that the personality of an individual consists in the clothes which he carries, then, according to me, they are strongly wrong. There are lots of other ways to express his personality and his differences, not only clothes.

  37. Hello everybody.

I've got two differents opinions about the uniforms in school:

First of all, uniforms may be a bad idea because somebody can recognize you, when you're walking out of the school and then become a target, described by the school you're going to. Also, I wouldn't like to see everyone wearing the same clothes, for me it's totally against our liberty to wear what we want.

But, uniforms also have good sides. One of the first objective of the uniforms is to hide the social fracture in high school, by making everyone, without distinction of social class wear the same clothes. But, uniforms may not totally go against our liberty if the pupils have the possibility to choose their uniform or to design it at the beginning of the year.

Finally my opinion about the uniforms is more positive than negative, they have a good objective and mustn't go against our liberty.

  39. Hello everybody,

I've got two different opinion of the uniform in high school

First for all, I don't think that uniforms are a great idea. Indeed someone out of school can identify you, and then you become a target. Also, for me, uniforms are going against the liberty of wearing what we want.

But, I also think that uniforms may be positive. One of the first objective is to hyde the differences between the pupils. If everyone wear the same clothes, you can't define who is rich or who isn't. Then if the pupils have a choice to do or design by themselves the uniforms, they'll surely like it and it won't totally go against their liberty.
Finally, for me the uniforms are a good idea if they respect some conditions they mustn't go totally against our liberty, because our clothes are a part of us, they define us in a way.

  40. I think that wearing uniforms is a good and also a bad idea.

On the one hand, it's a good idea because there will not be discrimination in relation to clothes because we don't have all the same style, and also inequality because we don't have the same social class and we don't have all the money to buy the last fashionable coat.
In the other hand, I think clothes represent our personality, in some way. Dress up is a manner to express our liberty and our creativity.

It also sends a message to the persons around you, if you are fashionable , if you worry about your appearance. Maybe it would be posible with uniforms to distinguish oneself but less effectively. I think uniforms don't suppress the fact that someone is rich and shows it beacause shoes , school-bag (and even make up)can reval social differences.

Also, I think fashion can improve our creativity and help us evolve from teenager to adult. Uniforms also keep gender stereotypes evolve when we see that girls have to wear skirts and boys pants. It may be a bit reductive for our century.
But in an other way, they can, indeed, be very usefull to reduce bullying for instance. When we see that many people are bullied or rejected because they are not « fashionable » enough or because they don't wear expensive brands, then yes uniforms could be a solution. I have a mitigated opinion on this subject, but I still believe that having the right to wear whatever we want, as long as it isn't inappropriate for school, is essential, and mostly at our age.

  43. I cons and also because if we in uniform this possibly tell us that we are all equal and we can take to be welded between us but I am also against because personality matters most this describes our person or our passions it may unfold in the way it is dressed by other way.

  44. To my mind, if we propose to wear a uniform in high school, I will be for because it will be limited the différences between those who can buy expensive clothes and those who cannot be. Furthermore, there will be probably not have popularity between girls and boys because everybody will be wear the same clothes and everybody will be equal.

  45. In my school we don't wear uniform but I think it's good that students wear uniforms because first of all there would be less discrimination to the moral level compared to others endless jealousy between girls or boys. This could give for a lot of people a sort of equality between people because indeed a person will always be more or less than ourselves but we must to accept them it's normal and I don't see why there are a lot of discriminations for that in my opinion it's ridiculous to be jealous of someone because she has for example a Tee shirt of a famous brand I prefer to say that she is lucky to have this and not to criticize her so with the uniform I think that a lot of people stop to judge them. It could afford to fewer group between people because we would all be on an equal level as I have said and everyone would be accepted as it is.

  46. I have mixed feelings about this because on the one hand I think it could be a could thing because there will be no more differences no one would be better then someone else but on the other hand it means that we're less free and clothes are a way to express yourself and show you are because we're all different ,different look personality even though in general we are the same .

  47. First of all , personnally , i think that it would be a great idea four our school, it would enable that there are not any discriminations about our own clothers, for example if a pupil wears a common tee-shirt which seems not really expensive , perhaps another student will laugh at him and enable to judge him.In addition , I think that if all the student are dressed in the same way , it would not be anymore the freedom to wear what we like. The fact of becoming all clones is not benefit , because a person who wears what she likes , it makes her happy

  48. I think it's good to initiate school uniform .Uniform eliminating social differences and create identification. It is good beacause jealousies give way to unity and students from the school see Themselves as a team. All students are similar and it is good for integration. I think students can be proud of symbols of they school and it is important for the image of school.

  49. I believe that the school uniform is not compulsory and does not provide any advantages for the education.First school uniform is quite expensive, for example in Russian school uniform is required and the parents who actually bying it are forced to spend large sums of money every year .Secondly is not suitable for dressing at all times of the year and may cause some discomfort.Alos wearing the same form does not make you a unique person and usually even one person does not stand out from the gray mass

  50. What are the problems facing the school uniform? I am against school uniforms because, there are may have more problems as economic difficulties to buy the uniform, having bullying and violence in school, The student loses his individual expression, the design of the uniform can be inconvenient...

School uniforms usually mean an additional cost for parents who must buy more different types of clothing for their children to wear in and out of school. In addition, uniforms involve specific requirements, there are parents who may not be able to find solutions in stores. School students need to learn to express themselves and their clothing choices are a way to do it. When each child is forced to dress like all the other students, he loses his freedom to choose how they want to be represented by his clothes. In addition, uniforms may conflict with the beliefs and religious practices of the student regarding proper attire. Teachers, on the other hand, may appreciate the limitations of personal expression through clothing, because students dress inappropriately at once.

Some school administrators consider that the application of a uniform policy will eliminate the problems of discrimination and intimidation. But the kids will find a way to hurt each other, regardless of what they wear. If they wear uniforms, some kids bully each other on hairstyles or the choice of jewelry or shoes. They will make fun of each other for the professions of their parents or their socioeconomic status, no matter what they wear to school. A uniform is not an absolute solution to the problems of bullying and negative behavior. School uniforms often involve skirts, wearing dress pants and button-down shirts. They are inconvenient, especially for young people. Students rarely change their clothes for physical education or art, and these kinds of garments are not conducive to such activities. Students will be more likely to stain or tear their uniforms, placing an additional burden on parents who have to pay to replace.

To conclude, I think that everyone is free to dress as they wish, because too we are all different and it is this point that is intérressant in life.

  51. Hello everybody.
In my opinion, the school uniform does not have to be or become compulsory in our country. So if the Government propose to wear a uniform in high school, I would be totally against.
First of all the purchase of school uniforms, represents an additional cost for parents. Furthermore, the fact of wearing a uniform when we study in classroom, and especially the summer, it can fast become annoying and unpleasant.
To sum up, we should be able to dress as we like and keep our individuality.

  52. Hi everybody,
I think that uniforms are the least funny thing in the world...
It's really sad to dress all alike, because nobody has no more personalities. Nominally our habits are revealing of character.

Of course, it can be funny 5 minutes, you can believe that you are in Harry potter.
If we wear uniforms, it is best to be able to create them ourselves, so we can draw them all together or at least be able to add a personal touch like a belt, a hat ...
Of course, there is a huge advantage in when we wear uniforms: Discriminations against brands no longer exist! Nobody can tell that you are not in fashion!

In short it is a way to fight against discrimination but you can loose our identity
The clothes are revealing of our personality, one can thus be friend with people without really knowing their character.
This makes it possible to make more encounter

  53. Hi everyone!

Personally, I'm for wearing uniforms at school because, thanks to that, there won't be any social differences or discrimination between students. On top of that, as usual, on school's uniforms there is the icon of the school and then thanks to that we can represent our school. For example, our uniform can be colored with main colors then anyone in the street can see us and say "Oh they are students from...". So, even if it's a little expensive, I think that having a uniform it's pretty cool!
